New Strings from SIT! "Foundations"

Just got these today at a quite economical price: IDR630,000 or roughly USD43.85 for the whole 3 sets.

But, I don't know when I'm gonna put them on. I don't have any bass which requires string change at the moment.

Nice score on some great strings!
Thanks. Sure the price was the main factor for me in getting the Foundations. Second was all the reviews which said that these are flexible strings just like Dunlop Super Brights, which happen to be my most favorite strings to date.

The Super Brights were also quite economical when I got them. But at our local market, they are currently priced the same as other general strings like the XL Nickels, ProSteels or the Slinkys. Good thing I still have a few spare sets for future use.

Are you still using these Foundations? How do they age?

Yes I still use them, I've had the same set on my Roscoe Jazz for close to a year and they still sound snappy.

The three main sets of strings I will use are these SIT Foundations, Super Bright Nickels, and DR Pure Blues. All are somewhat similar with enough difference to love all three :)

My foundations are longest lasting string s I’ve used

Would you believe it if I told you these Foundations from 2017 are still on my StingRay and still very crisp & bright???

Yes, SIT sent me this beta test set of nickel 45-105 in Jan 2017, and these went on my '78 StingRay. I recently had a friend and fellow TB'er over for bass & beers a few weeks ago and I handed him the bass and asked him if he thought I should change the strings. He responded he thought they sounded like a pretty new set on there.
I am amazed!

I just bought a set of Powerwound and put on my G&L. Nope, these don't have the same sound or feel, not impressed with them.

Which sets were you all referring, nickel or stainless steel?

Did you beta test or have you used the stainless steel set also?

How would you compare the three mentioned in terms of stiffness/flexibility? What about surface texture and smoothness?

I would say the Super Brights are just a hair looser and springy feeling, and the smoothest. Pure Blues are the roughest of those but still smoother than normal nickels. Foundations are in the middle on stiffness and roughness.

Thanks for this info.

My son went through a couple of sets of the Super Bright Steels (45-125) on his Ibanez SR-1205E, and seemed to like their flexible feel compared to the Elixirs that originally came on the bass. The he tried the DR SS Lo-Riders 40-100 + 125B for the last year, and now the Fat Beams 40-100 + 125B as of a few days ago.

Then I came across with this thread on the SIT Foundations, and based on what I've read so far, I'm starting to think he might be interested in trying the SS 45-125 set.

One question...

Do both stainless and nickel versions come with red ball ends on all strings?
Sorry, couldn't help. I haven't opened mine.

Then probably the 45-105/45-125 stainless steel Foundations stiffness is comparable to Marcus Miller version of the Super Bright.

I'm thinking of stocking these a little bit more, as our national SIT Strings dealer does sell the Foundations at a very economical prices.
