New Trace Elliot 1200 amp !

Looks great, I want one. But when do we get the blacklight back?

trace-elliot-ah250-30784.jpg

When do you get the florescent black light tube back?? Never - lmao that thing was terribly noisy...but I admit, seriously cool.....I wanted one the minute I saw it - could never afford it back in the broke musician days. The last time we did the backlight version we actually got complaints from people who wanted the stage completely dark...all that being said maybe down the road we can figure out a cool way to do all that with LEDs .... hmmmmmm

I haven't seen too many examples of the older ones in person but the ones I did see weren't noisy (and I added one to my 410 combo). When looking at the final production gear, comparing it to older models, did no one in the meeting room ask "where's the black light to light up that green?" The LED tech it out there, make it happen, cap'n!

This was my old rig. Wasn't noisy (was pretty loud though, and super heavy).

Obviously we are very proud of this amp the way it is. Give it a shot it's Trace through and through. It simply sounds amazing and does exactly what we designed it to do.

I was honestly surprised how close the ELF sounded to some of my prized vintage Trace heads, and so far, the TE-1200 seems to be in the same wheelhouse, tonally. Still putting it through its paces, but I am thoroughly impressed so far! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

That being said, I did love the look of the blacklight effect, but I think doing something similar with LEDs would make more sense on a variety of levels.

I’m interested in how did you manage to get to that “ trace sound” without the 7 band or 12 band controls. And simply it to bass low mid high mid treble

Well, there is a lot more to the voicing of an amp than just the tone stack - and I tend to go easy on the tone control tweaks, regardless of the topology; unless we are talking something like the Fender stack where 2-10-2 is closer to "flat." That being said, Peavey/Trace actually went out of their way to make the newer "knob-based" tone controls to sound more like the old graphics. As I mentioned in my ELF review, they each band uses the same gyrator circuit that they used on the older graphic EQs.

At the risk of jeopardizing my knighthood, and getting booted out of the country : I only watched any of The Queen's "plutonium" jubilee celebrations, to see if there was a glimpse of John Taylor's new Trace rig.

Sure enough, it was very visible (and present in the mix).

The amp was off stage (as per @Fred from Peavey photos of his rack), and there was no mic on the cabinet, so presumably we were hearing the D.I. straight from the amp.

Whatever we were hearing, the bass was thick, rich, and purring along nicely.

One question for @Fred from Peavey (although I'm sure there may be photos on line by now), as I was listening more than looking, it suddenly occurred to me that subliminally I felt I had seen a different cabinet to the two new designs.

I thought maybe I'd glanced an 8x10, or perhaps a custom version of two of the new cabs, fused into one cabined, with the badge in the upper left corner.

Anyway, looked, and sounded great.

A on/off switch will silence the nay sayers

Hey guys - sorry I've been MIA.

Yeah there have been component cost increases on the TA-1200 so the price is going up - still well worth it. As far as John Taylor - he's using the TA-1200 we didn't have enough new Trace Cabs to get the full 4 cabs in Europe (I know we should have made a lot more) so in addition he's using a custom 8X10 we made for him for him some time ago. The plan is when the tour gets to the US - we will have his complete Trace Rig ready.

From what I heard coming from John Taylor’s rig on the Queen’s program sounded really great. Enough that it would probably have made me take notice if I didn’t know what/who’s gear he was playing through. Personally however, they should have added a graphic eq instead of the parametric. Ashdown did it and I thought it was cool, it just wasn’t Trace Eliot. The black light would have been a huge over the top plus, to the point that I would have ordered one upon site! But, the lack of a graphic makes want to wait for the next version/update.

I've been wanting to try this combo live for a while, and so I had my chance to try the new TE-1200 with my ELF 2x8's this past weekend. The gig was outside, fairly decent sized venue, but with the band in a bit of a corner against a brick building and a repurposed metal shipping container, so a little bit of boominess to deal with on the stage, but then big open area for the crowd. I ended up dialing the lows way back on stage, and let the PA carry the lows for the crowd, and this worked fairly well. I will say, though, that even with the Bass cut a good bit, that rig still put out a good bit of low end, and I would have likely cut the lows on a "normal" stage, as well. The ELF 2x8's do not have tweeters, which is why I boosted the Treble so much. The Hi-Mid boost was more about being heard above the boomy stage area. All in all, this rig sounded great! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Nice! Did you find the compressor function to help with stage boom? I would think with those cabs and the TE voicing you would have a very focused and tight feel, especially in the lower register.
