I've toured with these running high end in ear monitor systems, where you can hear everything. I've done the test with going to a cable, and it seems very transparent. If you are running a really long cable you might notice a little lack of high end in the cable, as the wireless isn't sucking the life out of your guitar. If it's too bright, then just eq it a little.

These are taylor made for the gigging musician, and more than most casual gigging club musician will ever need.

I only mention string vibration because I notice that when I play soft everything sounds clear, when I dig in it's almost like I hear the rattle vibration of the strings in the signal. It's faint and not heard in a mix and maybe not through an amp because I'm only used headphones since I've got it but enough to make me wonder. I don't think it's a faulty device by any means, I just don't notice that sound when I use a cable so it makes me wonder if the added brightness of the wireless signal brings it out.

Make sure you aren't overdriving the signal going in the unit. The rack mounted version has a meter to show how hot the input is. A run a +5 db with my passive pbass and -10 with some hot active basses to even the signal input between basses.

Thanks man. I saw it's pretty easy to adjust the output on the receiver as well. I have it going into an RBI so there very could well be just a lot of volume going on before the mixer. Like I said, I highly doubt my unit has issues and everything sounds great in the mix. The construction of the unit, battery and tuning function make this a keeper for me. The tuner on this thing is fast and awesome!

Here's a recording I did into GarageBand to shed some light on the noise I mentioned above. Obviously in a mix it's not an issue but playing on my own it kind of annoys me. Issue with the unit or is my signal just too bright? I've tried lowering the gain on the receiver and my preamp to the same results.

Decided to return it. It's an awesome product but my Line 6 G30 which is a downgrade from this product never made those noises. I'm probably just picky but it's just not doing it for me. Maybe I'll do some more research into units like the G50 or G70 and just use rechargeable batteries. The battery system on the Shure can't be beat and I wish other companies took a similar route but it is what it is.

Not sure what "noises" you are referring to.. based on the above clip.. Sounds fine to me.. with my PC speakers (+ sub) pretty much cranked.. and I listened to it 3 or 4 times. If you mean the string vibration "noise", I guess that means the wireless is better than the G30? idk.. I don't hear anything from the clip that would make me return it.. IME - sounded really good!

It's audible with studio headphones. Maybe I'm just picky.

do you set the "cabletone" on the line 6 for something besides bypass? that's all i can think of that would make an actual tonal difference here, these things are both full-bandwidth no companding CD-quality sound reproduction.

(fwiw that detail along with the super-short latency and use of regular 1/4" cables also steered me towards my line 6 G75, i like the sound of a passive bass so my "cabletone" is set to the 15' setting.)

Never used it. I'm caught between the G50 and G55. It's nice to have the receiver on the pedalboard but I wouldn't mind having it on top of an amp either. G55 seems to be built a little stronger.

FWIW - I used a G90 for 7 (? - I lost track) years because I wanted a rack-mount unit. Replaced it recently with the Senn D1 which is also rack-mountable..
Both have been STELLAR units..

I have the Senn - replaced my G90 - and rack mounted it.
It's now on a new pedalboard as I'm going ampless... top right.

I've been doing tons of research on the Line 6 G50 which is the system I am leaning towards if I am to use wireless again in the future but I see a lot of inconsistencies from reviews that I see. Everything from dropouts due to the transmitter being shaken under normal playing conditions to having to use the tuner output on the receiver because the main input cuts out, etc. The Shure system is just so well built and the battery is amazing. Those noise issues I was having could have been due to the fact that I was using an RBI which is a ridiculously bright preamp. Live I use either a VT Bass DI, Sansamp BDDI or JohnK Orange preamp which aren't as bright. I still have the funds from returning the GLXD16 so maybe I'll give it a 2nd chance. Even if I did still have those minor noises going on it won't be noticeable in a live setting. I'm just very pessimistic and I think I let it get the best of me last time.

I wound up going with the Audio-Technica System 10 stomp box. I'm only a few rehearsals in but so far so good. No dropouts or noise. I would've liked a rechargeable battery in the transmitter. I don't know if I would've paid $350 for it though. I ordered it from Sweetwater New Years Eve when they were discounting $100 dollars and AT was offering a $50 rebate so I'm only in to it for $150. First gig with it will be next Friday.

I ended up re-ordering the Shure. It's just too good of a system that I'm willing to deal with that issue that I had on the previous unit that doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else using it. I could have just had a bad unit, catching some interference from elsewhere, my signal too bright, etc. The signal never dropped out and was reliable as could be, the battery and pack were phenomenal, tuner was killer, etc. It's worth another shot.
