New Year's Eve gigs..... Who's got 'em?

I am a fill-in for an established band. 3 sets, 7 originals, I've never played with these guys before. No rehearsal. Beach bar in Florida at a big resort hotel. I've been wood-shedding all week. I've played about 1/3 of the songs before. 1/2 are ez covers. I am looking forward to this gig. Super nice guys I've known for a long time.

Yep, not playing though. Just running lights and sound for a country band that my drummer is in with his dad. Just a small bar that will hopefully be pretty busy. Nice thing though is the band pays me the same as what they each get. Every once in awhile they let me sub in on bass for a few songs. Hope everyone has a good time playing tonight.

I used to do New Years like clockwork but not lately. Driving home at 2AM you could always count on seeing someone pulled over starting the new year in handcuffs.

A couple of years ago we were taking the train to fly out of NY on New Year's Eve. I was talking to the transit authority cops and they all hated New Years. Not only are people rowdy but you'd get the drunks that could only make it halfway home. Find them the next morning in Penn Station, stuck to the floor. Yuk. Too old for that nonsense now.

Nothing this year for me, but I did a NYE gig a few years ago where we didn't even start until midnight. It was a private party at a country club, and that's what the client wanted. It didn't go well - most of the guests were too tired or drunk to care about us once the ball dropped.

Yeah, I got one at a local resort, as part of a deal with a weekly gig to follow, with a band I just started working with. It's a LONG gig -- 6 hours. Mostly swing on URB and a little EB, although I may end up using EB more just to give my hands a break -- I'm still trying to build up my stamina on URB. I haven't done a late NYE in a while, just First Night gigs where I'm home by 10 pm. I plan to bring a thermos full of coffee...

Y'all be careful out tonight! As has been noted already tonight is the night everyone remembers their "limit" when they were young. Too many bad decisions going on tonight. Don't be a bad decision yourself and be extra careful not to get caught up in someone else's bad decision. I've grown fond of this forum - wouldn't want to see anyone drop off the radar.
