That's disappointing to hear. I don't see how you can choose from numerous presets without banks. How has this unit worked out for you guys in live situations?

It is dumb because the unit has all it need to be done. Currently the footswitches in patch mode let you go up and down patches. Instead they could have one button to cycle through patches of the bank and another one to activate the patch.
I haven't used it live. I need to know it better and have no gig lined soon anyway.
At rehearsal it behaves well and sounds solid even with all the other instruments around.

Hey mate, firstly, thank you for such detailed impressions of the new unit, we all really really appreciate it :)

I've got another quick question, apologies if it's been covered already, does the unit colour your sound at all when running flat? 99% of the time I know it wouldn't matter anyway, but would be nice to know.

I can tell you with the G3 that it hasn't been too big a deal for me live. Granted, I'm not using it in every song, but switching it on and off is pretty easy. I also created patches two ways;

- some that are all three effects at once for a particular sound that I'll turn on and off wholesale during a song

- some that are three separate effects that I'll use individually for a song at different parts

Up/down bank/patch changes between songs are of course pretty straightforward.

If you're the kind of effects user that's constantly jumping around your board during a single song though, it's probably a different story. It certainly won't work the same way as say, an M13.

Note that the G3 isn't the only thing on my board currently. I also use a separate distortion, overdrive, and EQ. It all fits on a PedalTrain Mini though so I'm happy with the size.

I'm sure this has been covered and I overlooked it: How many banks and patches are there? How difficult IS it to scroll up and down manually to get to your next desired preset?

Secondly, are any of you playing this thing straight into a power amp for your live rig?

Does the above mean that I could use a USB cable plugged into a wall socket USB power source instead of a laptop/PC? as I'd like to power it up this way as opposed to the supplied power supply which are usually not long enough.

Are you able to confirm please?

Oh my, this is definitely how I intend to use a multiFX, my GAS for this thing is definitely getting harder!

My only concern would be about how the whammy is. If it rocks, then :bassist:

The pitch shifter on the G3 is OK...but I don't think it's in the same league as a Whammy. Not sure if it's any better on the B3 though, Jazz is your cat for that :)

I would say as long as the wall source can provide/convert 500 mA it should work. I'll try it with my G3 and a wall adapter...not sure if a standard Apple type iDevice adapter would work or not. I think most USB busses run at 5v.

I have a B2 and B9.
I have found both units to be excellent and use them in series everyday.
The sims in the B9 are spot on.
I'm a huge Aguilar fan and the Aggie sim is dead on a DB750, especially through Aggie cabs.
I also like that you can separate the cabs and amps in the sims.

The B2 needed a little tweaking to optimize, as someone said earlier the key to these units is tweaking the ZNR. I never leave home without the B2.

Interesting aside on these units. I had a flood in my basement, about 3 inches of water. Both Zooms were on the floor. Both units got water in them. The B9 was full of water, when I picked it up water poured out though what seem to drain holes on the bottom (almost like it was designed to take on water). Long story short, I let the both of them dry out for about 2 months, they both fired up and have worked flawlessly. I was very impressed, especially with B9 with the tube and all. I did not expect either to survive.

I'll checkout the B3, if it offers something I don't have, I'll pick one up...

IMHO: running thru my warwick taranis 5er and vampyre dark lord.

it did not do too much colorisation but yes i do notice a substantial tone suck, usually there is more resonance and more zing from the vampyre and a huge growl from the taranis, those 2 qualities has been tamed but i am now trying to find a amp sim (always on effect) that sounded good to mitigate it (i like the huge growl and zing). still tweaking

i am going on tour this friday and taking the B3. i have streamlined it to just a G30>B3, than the usual pedalboard i used. i chuck it on a DIY pedalboard just enuff space for the G30>B3 and chug it in the luggage. did not even bother to bring in the Avalon U5.. i will solely be on the B3. Tech rider told me the rig they got for the show is a Hartke 1000H. with 1x15 and 4x10 XL so DI from the B3 to FOH and the Hartke as my stage monitors. My ears are still biases to the M9 but i try to make this work for me, will feedback what the FOH says after the week long tour.

and i only book the airline with 15kg luggage allowance, usually it be 30kg. save me $80 bucks :)
