New Zoom B3 has arrived!!!!

That's not entirely true. Granted, using an amp sim thru an amp is like taking an amp's voice and running it thru another amp's voice.

But, think of that amp sim like another effect. If running the fliptop patch into your SWR gives you the tone you want/like, then use it.

IMO, the some of the amp sims with their gain high, provide better overdrive than the dedicated distortion effects.

I agree with this as well. Granted it is redundant, at times its appropriate to take this approach.

I've had some luck with the fliptop but the eq is just not quite right. My OD benchmark is a Pork Loin and I just can't seem to find it in the B3.

For me, it's either all or nothing. I don't want to use the B3 AND pedals. I found replacements for all my pedals except for the Pork Loin. Until that happens, I'm still using separates.

Makes me glad I play through a Genz Benz, they really have no definative "signature" sound.
GB's transparency eliminates at least part of what you mention, so I guess the only other post-instrument tone coloration really comes from the speaker cab I choose to use.

Ya know its a matter of taste. While I do think Genz Benz is an amazing brand, but I personally love the tonal signature I get from my Gallien Krueger stack.

The filters sound pretty good to me. I like the M-filter and the Snow White filter(I can't remember what it's called but the graphic looks like the Mad Professor filter). I've owned a few analog filters(mxr, emma, pigtronix, ehx) and the 2 models mentioned above sound just as good or better than any of the filters I have had. The wahs aren't that great for me but I'm thinking I just need an expression pedal with a longer taper(I have an ev-5)

How are you guys that use the B3 for dirt getting good sounds? Are you using EQs, amps, both??? I don't think they sound terrible but I won't be getting rid of my separate dirty pedals anytime soon.

From this NAMM show earlier this year, you could see the concept of buying two units and hooking them up via USB to get six effects was pushed early:

Maybe they know there's a certain percentage of buyers willing to get two B3's for six effects.

The bassist from Filter is actually a memeber over in the Hartke Club, I'm sure he'd be willing to fill y'all in on how he's using the B3s together

A similar thing happened when they released the B2.1u. They said that you could use the USB with a patch editor, but there was and is no such beast for the B2.1u.

you still can use two B3's together to get more effects, as you would any other stomp box.

For instance you could relegate 1 unit to amp sims and overdrives and the other for spacial effects like reverbs, filters and modulators.

thanks! i was checking out ztron filter it sounds good but somehow i need to get right clean blend and compression on it to make it really usable out through a PA with a band because last time i used it just didnt make sense to use that sound

for dirt sound so far i just have a bassdrive ie the sansamp sim with its gain maxed out for a overdriven sound. it sounds the best alone without any other amp sim on it so i just made a seperate patch for the dirt sound and another one with a clean amp sound so i use the patch switching mode while playing live
but am yet to try out the tube screamer i think that is worth checking out too for a tubey overdrive

Personally the tube screamer is my 2nd LEAST favorite dirt on the B3 right after the "Overdrive" patch. It lack the low end punch, lots of mids but not much else

Hey guys, quick question: How's the Sansamp Bass Driver on the Zoom B3?

I was thinking about buying an M audio Fast track usb interface to use with a bass driver for home recording but if the zoom b3 is close to the real deal i might just get the zoom b3 and enjoy the rest of it :)
