New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

Old man here, I guess I don't get it.

So, what's the deal about getting the best SVT modeling sound?

View attachment 2889050

Could you please elaborate?

The B3n provides digital amp model emulations and speaker cabinet simulations, and the SVT rig tone is amongst the most iconic bass amp/cabs desired by many bassists, myself included.

You could use just the B3n's SVT amp model into a power amplifier that drives an SVT cabinet. I've tried this previously with the older B3 and it sounded great...probably even more realistic with the B3n SVT amp model.

You could then add the B3n's SVT 8x10 cabinet simulation after the SVT amp model emulation to feed a full range speaker cabinet, PA system, or recording device to capture a digital simulation of a fully mic'd SVT rig, but at a fraction of the size, weight, and cost. Very practical and convenient and sounds really, really good.

If none of these scenarios are of any use to you, then this is probably meaningless to you, in which case the B3n works great for just special effects and other tone/dynamics processing.

:D I get ALL of that, like "the SVT rig tone is amongst the most iconic bass amp/cabs desired by many bassists, myself included."

I get it's an iconic sound, just not the only one.

Everything is compared to that one sound and it seems to be replicated in different products with very good results. Now that we have more or less achieved it. I would like to see focus on another iconic bass amp as a standard, whatever that may be, as a new voice in our toolbox.

Say as an example, the Acoustic 360/361 or, The Versatone amp, that Carol Kay and Jack Casaday would use or, SWR Redhead.

I hardly ever hear anyone say "this has the best sounding 'your amp here' I have heard in a modeler before". That's All :D

I hardly ever hear anyone commit on the other amp models that accompany that one sound SVT, other than the B15N/Fliptop. :)

So your point is you'd like to see other amp models aside from the SVT rig simulations.
Well, there are other amp models:

Fender Bassman 100 & 4x12 cab sim
SWR SM-400 & SWR Goliath 4x10+tweeter cab sim
Aguilar DB 750 & GS410 4x10+tweeter cab sim
Trace Elliot AH400SMX & companion 1048 4x10 cab sim
Acoustic 370 & 1x18 cab sim
Markbass MINIMARK 802 & companion 2x8+tweeter cab sim

You can also get some good use out of various pedal/preamp emulations instead of the amp models, like the BassDRV (SamsAmp BDDI), Dark Pre (Darkglass B7k), D.I. Plus (MXR Bass D.I.+).

We'd like to see more amp/cab options, including the B15/Fliptop, so we're on your side here, too. In the meantime, we have a small variety, but a good selection none-the-less. The B3n could really use something based on a 15" speaker, and the B15 would be a great option, and definitely something from GK (800RB).

No, that's not my point.

I guess I am not making myself clear here. :(

I understand that there are other amp sims packed in the B3n as you listed.
I understand the usefulness and the concept of this pedal.

It's just seems that the worth of this or any other amp modeler in question is, whether the Ampeg amps sims, SVT or B15N sound right but, I never hear anyone commit on whether the other sims as you listed sound equality as real or as good as the SVT sim.

How is the Acoustic sim, as good as the SVT? How about that Markbass sim, is it close or dead on?

Again it seem to me, most everyone worries about that one sound, SVT.

Does anyone else get what I am circumlocuting at this present time in order to get
this text on television? :{-

Maybe reread my posts :)

Well I don't care much for Ampeg but I use the SWR simulation and with some fiddling it seems pretty close to the real thing to me. Guess Ampeg user are just more. :)
Now I'm hoping for some GK and hartke stuff...
I had an Acoustic 360/361 living with me for a while. I can cop a fairly good sim out of the zoom stuff with fiddling
with the mid frequency to get that mid bark I remember hearing when I stood in front of it. :)

Oh. Your question is whether you think the other amp/cab simulations are as realistic to the original as the SVT models seem to be, and could we focus on something other than the SVT. Apologies.

Yes, SWR and Acoustic amp/cab simulations seem pretty good to me, and give a representative "trademark" tone of those rigs. I've less experience and hard memory of the tone from the other amps, so I can't comment. I have owned SWR and Acoustic rigs so I'm quite familiar with those tones.

I think the reason the SVT gets a lot of attention is because it is a very versatile amp/cab combination. You can easily switch gears from R&B to Heavy Metal with an SVT since it is capable of being overdriven pretty easily, or can get very piercing and clean if desired. IMO many other amps lean toward being more specific in what they do well. SWR amps aren't necessarily known for their overdriven tones (though I've overdriven them with mixed results), and Acoustic bass amps with 15" or 18" speaker cabinets aren't known for their ability to have top-end cutting through the mix, but rather, known for their low-end and mid-range "bark" (as you've said).

But this is the beauty of digital modeling, that you can mix amp models with different speaker cabinets and experiment until something makes you happy.

I think it just so happens that the tones I tend to default to are best suited to the SVT amp/cab because I had used that rig for so many years and prefer it. I can't speak for what other people use in the B3n and why they use it. I also wouldn't get too hung up on what other people prefer. I will say that these bass amp models sound as good as any digital models I've ever played through, which is quite a statement considering the price.

Good luck!

Now you got it! To me I like being able to get more of a variety of sounds and mix and match rather than same old, same old all the time. I like the idea of having a truck load of amps to draw from. My point was you are not alone in enjoying the SVT sound. I just also like hearing about the other stuff like, a lot of folks have been talking about the Dark glass stuff (for a change) instead of just the SVT. Those other sounds for me, SWR, Markbass, GK etc. have a useful place for me. I just wanna hear about them too! Now that I have waited. I need to see if a B5n is in da future :) PS I am not hung up on what other people use. Use what you will!

:)

NAMM! Zoom had 0 bass related anything, so I asked the girl that was there if they had anything new coming out. She said no, but did however say they had an update coming for Guitar Lab. Showed me a screen shot and it seemed very intuitive.

That is the best thing they could have added right now.
