New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

Have any of you lucky new B3n owners had a chance to try out the pitch shifting octaves up and down, and are they anywhere near as good as the Line6 M series?
Improvement on B3, MS60b etc?

The pitch-shifting is the reason why I sold my B3 after getting my B3n. Whereas the B3 still had latency issues, the B3n is ridiculously able to keep up even until the low B string of my bass! As for the up, personally I forgot to try it but latency issues are usually more prominent when going down, so I think that one is not an issue here.

Edit: I forgot I already tried the up pitch-shifting included in Stu Hamm's patch "+RhythmGuitar". It also tracks well.

Great. I've been struggling for an all in one solution, this could be it. Just waiting for a U.K seller to show stock.

Looking at the list of FX on the B3n, it's uncredbibly frustrating that they'd include models like a Boss Metal Zone or the Bomber. They could've modeled a couple different distortions (Rat with clean blend?) that bass players actually ever used, instead of totally useless trash.

Let's hope they add a Stompshare kind of store like they've got for the MS100BT.

Yes. Keep in mind that they are probably far from finished delivering free updates to the library of available effects and amp/cab models. If the G5n is any indicator, they should be adding an amp/cab and 4 effects just about every month following the official release into the US, which is this month. It would be disappointing and highly unexpected for ZOOM to be finished with the B3n without backup support for sounds.

I think that ZOOM was making sure they had the G5n/G3n well under control before dedicating much time to the B3n. We'll see. Mine is due to arrive later next week.

A lot of users here actually get creative using those effects because of the blend, you just have to be patient and creative in making patches.
As for the Stompshare, why purchase when the new effects they are releasing monthly are free?
If they make available FX like the Ice delay or Cavern/ Space reverbs available for free, great. I love those for ambient soundscapes and also interesting synth textures. That said, I don't think I could utilize the B3n on my board anyway.

Lucky B3n owners can you confirm that if you hold Memory to get the tuner it remembers whether it was muted last time? That would mean quicker access to muted tuner.

And does it or doesn't it power up on USB alone?

About that, I'm wondering how they choose the new effects they have to offer. It would be good if they have some customer service listen to us users.

Both no. You have to choose the mute tuner again. It's actually kind of a hassle that takes a bit of getting used to.

It can't do USB power. Idk why they eliminated that. And to think the USB connection here CAN provide power as it's a mini-USB, the same one used for charging smartphones. Tsk.

FYI you won't be using StompShare to add/remove effects with this unit. You'll be using Guitar Lab, which is a regular laptop/desktop application. You'll use this app to load any firmware and effect updates. All new amp models, effects, and cab updates are free. There have been at least 3 new amp and cab models added to the G3n/G5n series since launch, along with a handful of drive, modulation, reverbs, and choruses. If I recall from earlier posts, there is already a new Darkglass drive and a new amp/cab model update for the B3n released for the lucky folks who already have one.

When adding new effects, you'll only be limited to the amount of onboard memory. I started out with a G5n, loaded all of its factory updates and additions, and had about 40% onboard memory free. When I did the same with my now-permanent G3xn, I had slightly more memory free, approximately 55-60%. I wonder if they increased the memory on the newer n models since the G3xn was just released in January? You can also delete effects from the unit if you aren't using them to save space. ("I'll pay Zoom to remove the bomber effect," etc.)

For new patches, there are also a ton of artist-created signal chains (patches) that were released through 2016 that sound a fair bit better than the Zoom factory patches. (Most of the pre-loaded patches on the G3/G5 series I found to be more like tech demos of what the unit can do, more than typical usable sounds. Though I'm probably more picky with my distorted guitar tone than I am with my bass tone thus far.) You can rearrange and overwrite factory patches with new ones, or you can delete all of them and start from a clean slate. Patch memory is separate from effect memory: I think the B3n will have 150 slots just like the G3n/G3xn.

On the Zoom B3, the SVT and Super-Bass amp sims are the only amps that have a dynamic driven input gain.

I'm just wondering if the new B3n amps overdrive when you increase the amp input gain?

I'm also very interested to hear the Roger Mayer Voodoo and Blueberry Bass Drive emulations on The B3n.

The B3n has existed for 2 months now - I really wish Zoom would post, at least one decent demo video of this pedal.....

I hoping my B3n ships this week and I have added these requests to my list.

Based on what sound bites I have heard so far, the SVT model has everything Ampeg lovers have wished for in a proper simulation! I am super excited.

If any other proof is needed to qualify the B3n, look no further! ;)

Wow! B3n brings back the dead! Impressive! And only $199. Is it a Stephen King thing where you bury them with a Zoom and they rise up a day later?
