New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

How does the looper work? How good is it?

Thanks.
I don't have much experience with other loopers, but this one seems to work beautifully. You can assign one or two foot switches to make it easier to add layers or undo. You can get a loop going, then change or toggle other effects in a patch so your backing and your solo lines sound different. If you go from one patch to another the looper stops because all pedals and loopers and rhythm boxes are assigned to patches as opposed to being "global" in the B1 and B3. And finally you can do manual start/stop for recording, or coordinate with the rhythm effect to have it record, say, precisely 16 quarter notes or whatever.

Here's me crudely playing with it. Everything you hear is a single B3n in real time. Only postproduction on this recording is fade in and fade out: Another Toosday Noodle - Clyp

Sounds great! :)

Then I don't understand why it isn't global... What reason for it to be a patch?
I can only speculate. But I think it's an improvement for all capabilities to be associated with patches. My feeling is that it provides an interface that's easier to make sense of. simply getting rid of the "global" button in the B3 is, IMHO, a simplifying improvement in and of itself.

I guess I need to sit down and experience it for myself. I just like the idea of having the looper global to use on the fly.

Every now again when my band jams, it is fun to make a loop and the noodle of the top with the band.

If I remember correctly Robert sledge used a big muff, he might have also used a guitar amp in conjunction with his bass amp. I have always loved his distorted tone. I remember almost changing the channel when I saw matt Pinfield announce a new band, ben folds five. Luckily I didn't, heard uncle walter and have loved them ever since. I met this girl that looked like axl rose....

Usage of the Looper counts against the total resources used by the device.

In the B3, with the looper always there and available, the unit had less to offer the effect chain (e.g. it could only support 3 effects in a patch.)

Imagine if someone said, "I do not use the Looper, release it from the used resources and instead give me 4 effects in my patch."

The B3n now delivers the Looper "a la carte" and one can decide for themselves if they want to give up effect slots and system resources for it.

Cheers!

Master volume full, turn patch volume up, if it still needs more volume, go into individual effects such as amp sim and turn volume up.

Unless you ALWAYS play through headphones, turn autosave off first so that you maintain your normal volume levels :)

I doubt this is really advisable. You should target always for unity gain. All level settings at 100, in particular also with or without effect. I would adjust the overall level for headphones only by changing the master volume. If that does not suffice, then I would consider other headphones. Impedance mismatch can also cause difficulties here, which can only be fixed by using another pair of phones.

Is anybody else experiencing major volume increases coming from the effects? My bass isn't all that hot and if I want to keep the volume similar after a preamp and amp sim, I'm running the volumes at like 4 or 5. I can't even fathom going to 20, let alone 50. 100 would probably set my amp on fire.

This looks rather to be a problem with the gain setting of the amp. If all is set to unity gain within the B3n, then the signal coming out of the B3n should be fine and not too hot. However, if the amp's input you are using has too much gain or its impedance is set for a passive bass etc. then, yes, all gets too hot quickly.

YES! Mine came yesterday, a day earlier than UPS "promised" (I question the validity of a promise that does not show up on the tracking page until AFTER the package has been delivered....). I've not had much time to play with it so I don't have any real impression of it other than that the volume of the supplied patches is all over the place and individual effects are too from a very brief attempt to build my own patch.

In other words, don't tell US to follow CharlieC's advice, tell ZOOM!!

The factory patch presets as coming from Zoom were always very bad and had their volumes all over the place. Useless! I do not own a B3n (yet) but I am not surprised if that first impression from the presets is what you describe. As I did with my B3s, I am expecting with the B3n to throw away all the presets, and only work with my own patches, all set to unity gain. As I described earlier, I am using an effects loop switch to make sure with or without effect there is no change in volume. I do this using headphones and double-check with my big amp, where further tiny adjustment are typically called for, since the strong amplification shows small remaining differences in levels more prominently than detectable with headphones. Yet, first rough settings are easier found using headphones in my experience.

Cheers, Andreas flf

Here's a question for all you owners out there.......When switching between banks, the unit automatically switches from say, the third patch to the sixth patch, when hitting the bank/scroll switches.
Say I want to go from the second patch to the sixth patch mid song, with very little time. Without the unit jumping from patch 2 to 5, then switching again to 6. Does that make sense?
Anyway, is there a setting that won't automatically switch patches while shifting through banks?
I realize I can do this by reordering the patches. Just curious if I am missing something.

On Page 24 of the user manual, under SETUP menu, you want to turn PRESELECT ON.
