News on Chunk Systems Bass Synth

If all you want (key word: want) is the waveform synth then if I were you I'd be shopping for a FreqBox. That's the main thing I want, too, but I'm also after a good gated fuzz which is why I'm interested in this. If the synth works well then I'm having one, because I already know I want the fuzz (and the filter will hopefully outmode my Q-Tron so I can get rid of another 24v wall wart).

I think it is funny to expect that this pedal was going to be LESS than $600...

Don't like it??? Go out and buy the replacements... A Deep Impact will run you a good $400 to $600, and is used... a Micro Bass Synth is what, $300 and does less than half of the OS...

You of course can add the BSW from Digitech, with all of 7 sounds... Add the SYB 3/5 in for good measure and the Ibanez synth for good measure, and you are still a good 40 sounds short of the OS...

On top of that, buy the Agent 00Funk, and Brown dog, and add the synths...

DI: $400
BSW: $80
MBS: $300
Brown dog: $150 (ebay)
00Funk: $175 (Talkbass)
SYB-3: $70 (Ebay)
SYB-5: $100 (ebay)
Ibanez synth: $70

Total: $1350+, with out an OC-2 octave pedal, or a peterson tuner....

Christ, just STFU and buy it or, GTFO!!!!!

Chill out dude. This is TALKbass, BTW.

I think what people are saying is that at $600 they want to hear the thing to decide if it's really worth it. If all 3 effects do what is expected and the tuner works well, then it's worth $600. But if one of the effects is killer and the rest are so so, it's probably not worth $600. There's a lot of excitement over this pedal, now it's time to hear some samples.

are you talking about the moogerfooger MF-107 FreqBox
? i diddnt know it could give me USABLE synth sounds..i keep trying to find samples of it but everything is drum machines going thorugh it..nobody is showing me what i can do if i just plug into it..

does anyone know if it gives usable synth sounds with bass?

I haven't played with one but yeah, with the hard sync switch on, the VCO will produce waveforms at the same pitch as your bass notes. And yes it is irritating that all the demos of it are totally useless.

Avoided reading this thread, assuming it was just going to be a single sound synth, but the presets make it slightly more interesting to me. I do understand why it could be considered overpriced, it is a multi, and there are always things you wont like in multi's. In fact many people in this thread have it replacing their octaver, envelope filters, fuzzes etc, yet will proclaim the virtues of individuals in every other thread. If boutique builders make multi's does that somehow legitamise them? Look forward to sound samples, if it does what it says, it will free up a ton of space on my board...

Yes, the Freqbox definitely can give a usable, cool synth tone in multiple waveforms. It is a capable of a LOT more, but if you don't use the envelope or FM controls, you just get a nice analog synth tone.

I did a long demo of the freqbox a week or so ago. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

Yup, if you search for "freqbox clip", its the first result.

im listening to your samples of it now..most of the sounds just sound like a "synth-like" fuzz only with an expression pedal for the freq. control.

its very cool, but now i'm up in the air between this and possibly the octavius, if its good...

At one point this was going to come out in 2007. I've been waiting to hear it for about a year now. I'm almost over it at this point. I probably won't be able to afford it anyway, especially since I really need to get an Adrenalinn asap and that's kind of expensive too.
