How complicated could it be to have some sort of programming error???
compare how? soundwise? programability? memory? features?
all these things have been discussed at length in this and maybe two other threads.

noo, I just need a simple comparison by those people who have been lucky enough to compare it to the DI or G5 (I'm not really interested into BMS)...
I'm selling my Korg on eBay and I'm feeling a bit unsure if it is a good time to sell it...
not so complicated that it can't be solved with a firmware update at the very worst,apparently

I own both the Akai Deep Impact and the Korg G5: I think, listening to the audio sample on chunk systems site and to the ones of the talkbass' user, that the Octavius Squeezer is more a beautiful "FX synth bass" unit rather than a "basic synth bass sound" unit (in example, for disco sound ostinato riffs).
In some words: the G5 and the DIare more useful in a band/live situation.
If i were you, I'd not sell the Korg G5 for the Octavius Squeezer: is a totally different "kind of synth sound unit".

Got OS yesterday. It is fantastic. I powered it with 1spot + daisy chain, no freezing here. Even preset sounds are great and now I´m trying to learn manual (64 page)
Although menus etc. didn´t seem too complicated to use.
I also own G5, DI and BMS. My first impression is that OS doesn´t sound exactly like any of those but I think it is the most versatile of them all. Tap tempo, 47 parameters, portamento, you can control and customize almost anything. It is really well thought and designed.
I haven`t started serious tweaking yet but all those filter VCO, LFO etc. possibilities can deliver very freaky noisescapes. Some of those sounds reminded me moog`s ring mod and low pass filter.
Fuzz circuit sounds really good, I think OS will replace my Carl Martin Fuzz. Tuner is also good enough. I could use it as my live tuner if I had to (I have Pitchblack also).

+1 if right now its amazing I can't imagine with upgrades
I received mine (2) days ago. Wow! Sounds fantastic and infinitely tweakable, though mine has frozen a couple of times already. I am fairly knowledgeable about programming analog synths, as I owned a Juno 106 and Memory Moog Plus when I was younger. All the tools are there, but the interface does make it a bit difficult to program. Namely, you can't just reach for multiple sliders to experiment. It's a little clumsy that way.
I'm still working on usable sounds as the presets are a little on the gimmicky, 'what all can it do' side. Has anyone been successful at programming some good, basic tones? My band is covering 'Boogie on Reggae Woman' for Halloween, and I'd love to emulate that phat, portamentoed Stevie bass.

Well the deed is done, I put down the deposit on the 2nd round of OS deliveries from Bass People. Apparently they have just come in, so I'll be getting it soon!
Did Chunk Systems say they were going to release an SDK? I've got a decent bit of programming experience and I reckon it would be useful to have a bash at programming some new sounds.

Bass People have the second round shipment of OSs... should be picking it up this evening or tomorrow (right before band practice). Awesome.
i love that they just came out and there has already been 5 or 6 on the TB classifieds.

:scowl: Okay so I wanna vent a little because I havent gotten my OS yet. So I preordered one and was promised one in the first batch. Its been over two weeks since I finished paying it off. I emailed them to make sure they recieved the payment and was told it would be shipped. A week later no email with a tracking number was sent to me so I emailed them again and was told it would be shipped in 2 days. Its been 4 and Im heated. Now I see they just got their second shipment in and I hope mine aint from that batch. That would be somethin else if they sold mine and made me wait for another one. Principles people. On the other hand I REALLY cannot wait to use the OS. Ive been sitting back very patiently hearing of others pure enjoyment with it.
Could be... haven't got mine yet. I'm not sure people knew what they were getting into with the patch programming. Also, a lot of people overstretched their budgets to get on the bandwagon, and in the meantime, other bandwagons have come around.
I haven't really heard comments from anybody who is accustomed to programming synth patches. Once I've had mine for a bit I will compare its programmability to some common synth gear, just for he sake of perpsective.
Well then. I used to own a Korg X5 synth, and the manual was nice and thick, plenty of control over the filters but you needed to put some real time in to get anything decent.
I think it is the same with the OS. I just picked mine up this evening and have been playing around with it for a couple of hours, only really with the built-in effects. I started trying to create a new effect but I think you really need to know what you are doing. It's not like a typical multi-effects pedal where you can twist the knobs and see radicial changes immediately.
On the OS there are a lot of parameters that you can change without anything happening due to the complex signal path. I'm sure those people who have given up already have just been frustrated by the complexity and not had enough perseverance to explore its possibilities.
I'm looking forward to spending many hours getting to know the ins and outs of this pedal and reaping the rewards of its full potential. The only thing I miss about my old multieffects pedal was reverb/delay effects, but I only used it when I put my 7-string viola through the pedal, and I found a cheap one nearby for $30 so that problem is already solved.
