Hi Francis,

Glad to hear you're interested in the Octavius Squeezer. We're very excited about it here too.

We've still got a couple of months work to go on it before everything is ready, but we're aiming to ship the first units in May.

We've still finalising exactly how much this thing will cost us to build, and will make an announcement as soon as we have a final price worked out.

Unfortunately you can't order directly from us. Our distributors do an excellent job of promoting our products and providing service on the ground, so we can't go undercutting them. The other thing to bear in mind is that distributors import our products in large quantities and so the shipping cost per unit is very small. By contrast, shipping individual units directly from Australia to customers in, say, the US can be an extremely expensive exercise. So even if we were able to ship direct to US customers, it's by no means certain that you'd save that much cash anyway. Then there are all the issues to do with service, repairs etc. which I won't even go into. Many years ago we used to ship directly to our overseas customers and we've found that using a distributor is much more convenient for all concerned.

Yes, the OS should be a pretty fun piece of equipment and our distributor should be able to put one in your hands as soon as we have everything ready.

That was pretty much the same response I got from Richard, but my email said "in the next few months" rather than May, so it looks like they are starting to hammer out some details.

I've actually literally been saving my change to buy this pedal. I think I only have about $100 right now though. I'm also planning to sell some stuff. I should probably get on that actually. What do you guys think, if I don't have enough cash by the time this pedal comes out should I get a credit card?

Other problem is I really want a suppercollider

Its hard to say what the price of this pedal will be. But it seems to be a must have. Looking foward to it. I do not use alot of pedals but those in the synth type are very interesting to me. Being this pedal will be programmable and is rather small, it will be in my beliefs a very popular and somewhat expensive. i hope it does come out in may.

Be even better if it had a multiple foot switch. To get a program will be a problem while playing. Maybe im wrong how can you switch to different programs? quickly? Say your on number 1 and need to go to a program sound on number 17.

As far as I know, you can move different patches about into banks etc, so you set up the sounds in the order you're gonna need them, then just go "up" each time.

That's what I would do anyway.

The Downfall of Any effect with a Digital interface is the fact you can't edit or change settings quickly or "on-the-fly". It takes a little tinkering and planning to know what sounds you like and then have your favorite presets in the first couple user preset banks. Otherwise Plan ahead that way your not fooling around with it in a live situation. This defeats the jump from preset 1 to 17....Does this make sense???

Funny you should ask. I recently emailed Richard Cartwright looking for that exact info since I wanted to set aside room on my new board for it.

Here's what he said: identical to their existing pedals - 120 x 105 x 65 mm, with room at the back for jacks and about 50 mm in front to remove/insert the SD card.

Hope that helps.

He also said that they plan to ship the first units in May or June

Just got an email back answering some questions I had about this sucker, so I thought I'd spread the love around. Quotes are my questions, and the answers, from Richard Cartwright, are outside the quotes to aid in clarity:

1. I love the Agent and the Brown Dog, and I wonder: since
the circuits from both are apparently being used in the
Squeezer, will all the controls of those pedals be available
in the Squeezer?

A good question. I suppose so, although there may not be a 1:1 mapping
because of the many more signal path options in the Octavius Squeezer. Let
me count the pedal knobs off against them off against parameter names in
Octavius Squeezer to make sure:
A00F2 pitch: "VCF ini frq"
A00F2 smoothness: "VCF att spd", "VCF dec spd", "VCF rel spd"
A00F2 sweep: "VCF sweep"
A00F2 squelch: "VCF peak"
A00F2 up/down: "VCF att frq"
BD dirty level: "premix dB"
BD clean level: "postmix dB"
BD gate: "fuzz gate"
BD drive: "fuzz srv dB"
BD soft/hard: "input mode"

So, yes, they're all there.

2. Are the octaver functions only able to produce synth
tones? Or will more organic tones also be achievable?

There are straight-out synth tones. There are raw analog filter/fuzz tones.
And there are all kinds of weird hybrid combinations between the two
extremes. So, yes, I guess you could say there'll be plenty of organic
tones.

3. Are the octaver functions capable of generating diminished tones?
3rds, 5ths, et cetera?

Good question. From memory, the way we have it set up at the moment I think
you can probably do a 5ths above or below.

Adding a power chord on top of a
bassline would be a great additional function. I understand
that this likely isn't a launch effect, but would a firmware
upgrade in the future be capable of adding this function?

Yes. This is the kind of thing we could offer in a firmware upgrade.

4. This one isn't so much a question as it is a raw desire:
please tell me the digital tracking is killer, clean and
precise.

We're working very hard right now to ensure it is killer, clean and precise.
We're tweaking the tracking algorithm at the moment to get the best possible
results.

Hmm, maybe it will morph into a question: is it
capable of polyphonic tracking?

That's not our main priority, but I suspect it'll end up being able to track
chords to at least some extent. We're focussing on getting the tracking fast
and precise for single notes first.

5. I see that pricing hasn't been released yet; has that been
nailed down?

No. We haven't managed to nail down a final price yet. Obviously it will be
significantly more expensive than an A00F2 or a BD since it does way more
than twice as much.
