NFL 2019 Week #15

Pack v Bearz at Lambo Rockwood Lodge

To close out the season, the Pack has 3 in a row against NFC Norris teams. To me, this sets up Vike better than the Pack. Pack finishes with Bears-Vike-Lions. Vike finishes Chargers-Pack-Bears. Throw out the records when 2 NFC Norris teams go head to head. Anything can happen. And often does.

Bearz are on a roll. Pack still with no identity no offense. An uninspired, listless win against the Redskins last weekend doesn't set up well going against a top 5 defense. We still have no clear #2 wideout, no clear slot receiver and no go-to TE - Jimmy Graham has played better last 2 games, but we're exposed and weak at TE - Jimmy Graham, an over the hill Marcades Lewis, 2nd year man Robert Tonyan and rookie Jace Sternberger who dropped a TD pass last Sunday. We still abaondon the run repeatedly despite having a stud RB in Aaron Jones, and a great 1/2 punch with Jamaal Williams. And on D, still way too many big plays given up. I think it catches up to them against a solid D this Sunday.

This is the biggest joke in pro football this year. And it makes no sense!!

I heard an ex-NFL player comment that it's a ludicrous complaint on two counts, both of which I agree with:

1) THERE ARE NO SIGNALS to put plays in! The call comes from the sidelines to the QB via radio. If there are some last minute defensive signals, see point #2....

2) Everyone in the stands has a cell phone and can video record the teams any time they want to. Everyone can record, everyone can play back. There are no secrets happening on the sidelines. Ever!

Incidentally, #2 was the same complaint I had about the years-ago complaint about the Patriots recording sideline signals. Everyone and anyone in the stadium has been able to see and record any team's signals for many years. I fail to see how this complaint was ever given any attention. It was stupid and irrelevant.

It's also stupid for the Patriots to be doing that, if it's not permitted by the league. I don't get it - the rule is stupid but does them no harm to follow, but they break it anyway? For what reason?

Seahawks have to win out to have a home game in the playoffs. They are at Carolina, who are having an off year. Carolina has been an epic adventure for the Seahawks. Cam Newton is no longer a factor, but McCaffrey sure is. It would not surprise me to see him carve up the Seahawks, like he has done before. I'm feeling a bit like a Mariners fan about the Seahawks after last week's lousy showing.

Allegedly the filming was done by a contracted source outside of the Patriots organization for internal job promotional purposes. Bill said that everyone within Patriots organization understand that a camera cannot be pointed anywhere near a sideline of an opposing team.

Ok. But even if all that is true ( I think it is ) the Patriots cannot expect to get a pass on this. There is too much history for them to be blase' about any hint of cheating. Any negative publicity stemming from this is deserved if for no other reason than someone in the Patriots organization made a very poor judgement call as to when this was being done and how it was being done and where it was being done.

Having said all that let's be real; Brady could beat the Bengals with a rampant case of the herp and pink eye.

Agreed on all of this. While I believe the Pats have had dastardly motives in the past, I'm not so sure on this one. But yes, they really should have been smarter about this--especially as an organization that is constantly been praised for being smart.

Also, I love this food reference.

Ahhh. Should have figured the organization was at least partly to blame, it's the Jets. The only team to lose to both the Dolphins AND the Bengals this year.:hyper:

I still think that the whole topic of recording sideline signals is the biggest piece of phony-baloney ever. The sidelines are in plain view, if there are signals they're plain to see. The best thing for the NFL is to declare open season on recording anything and everything during a game, because it doesn't change anything! That's a rule which has no reason to exist.

I cannot find any way to get concerned about the Patriots trying to steal signals from the lowly Bengals, and I strongly doubt that they made any effort to do so. Makes no sense. The Bengals are no threat to them.

I don't think it's been twisted.
When you're sick you stay home and get better. You don't run around partying until after 1:00AM.
It's just another example that for a guy like Bell, playing NFL football is not the priority in his life.

I agree with you, which is why I think he really was good to go in the game. He felt fine enough to go out in public. I'm not sure about you but when I'm under the weather I'm a hermit. I don't want my mug seen and lets face it, I'm not a celeb so if I did no one would care. If he went out looking like a smarmy booger factory I can only imagine the photos that would break the interwebz. Dudes like him want to give good face.

He was fine.

@Pilgrim The pats were dinged years ago because they habitually recorded defensive signals both from the sidelines and the booth. The most hilarious game I ever saw was when they were recording the Jets and Mangini had just become their coach. He Went Off, when he peered across the field and saw that camera peeping back at him. Biggest laugh (irony has its moments) I've ever experienced watching a football game. So to many it looks like they went to the proverbial cookie jar once again.

Some interesting info came to light today about that '15 incident "spy-gate". The gist of it was Bill was the master mind and it was not accidental. It even included cover stories if the people were asked why they were filming. Apparently the story given this time around was verbatim the story they we given to tell the first time out. I heard it on E$PN today, not sure of the source(s) but it sounded interesting to say the least.
