NFL 2021-22

I believe that is actually a square-dancing maneuver.
I defy anyone watching that game last night to identify one play when Miles Garrett wasn't being held.
The Broncos weren't called for offensive holding once.
Also, there was a play where the Denver receiver and Denzel Ward had each clamped onto the others facemask. Ward got the penalty, not the Denver receiver.

That's not uncommon for good pass rushers. For many offensive linemen, that's the best shot they have to stop the guy, so they hope the officials don't see it.
For as aggressive as James Harrison played at times, he was held nearly every play too when he rushed.

We see that with TJ Watt now. Some guys are so good, the only way to slow them down is to hold. The officials will only call so many holds per game to keep it competitive.

A good buddy of mine is a big Washington fan and works in the sports business. He recently passed along the final names supposedly being considered for the Washington team:

Armada
Brigade
Commanders
Defenders
Presidents (yes, the jokes write themselves)
Red Hogs
Red Wolves

Early on, Ron Rivera was reported to say the new name will have a military connection... so if that's true, the bottom three will get axed.

More details here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Of those choices, I like the Commanders or Defenders.
I'm guessing they'll go with the Red Wolves.

-Mike
Those were the two I preferred as well. In that order.

Although, I can already envision the headlines anytime they play a lousy game:

"Commanders Totally Lose Command"
"No Defense For The Defenders"

The possibilities are endless... :D

I think alliteration makes for a good team name.
If you notice, many of the team names have the same first letter as the city.
Even if the name is silly, it flows better.
I think they should go with Washington Warriors. It's simple, strong and generic.

Red Wolves makes the most sense of that list. The first two don't pluralize with an "S" which reminds me of Canadian football or soccer or something. I think Defenders is the strongest name of the group, but I don't want to hear every MNF announcer make the joke when announcing the defense (especially if they're at the bottom of the league). If I was a Washington fan I would hope that really isn't the final list.

I think Wolf Pack sounds a little better than Red Wolves.
Again, I really wish they would include me in this stuff.

Also, something that's not important but really bothers me and I can't stop thinking about,...
Can we we get rid of the Cardinal thing for the AZ team already!?
It really makes no sense.

Of the previously listed choices, I like Defenders and Commanders as well.

I understand the reasons they're keeping the colors... but if the organization is truly seeking to get away from the previous name, why not go with D.C. instead of Washington?

Also, how 'bout a singular noun? That would be a first for the NFL.

D.C. Fire
D.C. Power
D.C. Strength
D.C. Force

If you ever get overly cynical about the ginormous industry that has become professional sports, just think of the stories of D’Ernest Johnson and Blake Hance to lift you up. Four years ago, Johnson was fishing for mahi-mahi off the Florida Keys to pay bills. Three years ago, he was messaging teams in the upstart Alliance of American Football to beg for a chance to play for them. On Thursday night, Johnson saved the Browns from falling below .500 with the game of his life, rushing for 146 yards and one touchdown in relief of injured superstars Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Afterwards, Johnson was nearly brought to tears when he was informed that LeBron James shouted him out on social media for the great game he was having. Hance’s story is no less compelling. An undrafted free agent from Northwestern, he bounced around practice squads with Buffalo, Washington, Jacksonville and the Jets. In January, the Browns were desperate for a lineman because of a COVID-19 outbreak and they signed Hance. He was thrown into action in the playoff games against Pittsburgh and Kansas City. The Browns liked what they saw, invited Hance back for camp, and he made the regular squad in September. Now, injuries have elevated Hance to versatile and valuable sixth man on the best offensive line in the NFL. And on Thursday, Hance added to his resume, moving from left tackle to right tackle and subduing prolific Denver pass rusher Von Miller to two tackles and one measly hit on Keenum in the first half before Miller had to leave with a knee injury. Johnson and Hance are what athletic competition is truly all about.
