I'm going to say it again, this thread is about NFL football. A comment or acknowledgement on those situations? Sure, as it pertains to the games on the field.

^^^This.

Can we talk about football now, please?

the Browns still play the Ravens twice. It's a quirk that the games are back to back. I don't recall that ever happening in the regular season before like that.

The second of these games is Browns at home coming of a bye against the ravens who played at the Steelers the week before. That's just brutal.

For those wondering just how good of an NFL QB Justin Fields can be, or how good of an NFL RB Khalil Herbert will be, I encourage you to tune in to the game tonight.
The Steelers defense won't have an answer for either player. The look on Keith Butler's face will be too embarrassing to show, so Mike Tomlin will be stuck having to show his confused look all night.
If you get a chance, take a look at Keith Butler when they flash to the Steelers sideline. Talk about a guy who has no clue. I don't think he was Tomlin's first choice to succeed LeBeau. I think the Rooney's made that call for Mike. As much as I get on Tomlin, much respect to him for working with what he was given.

-Mike

Never underestimate the Steelers at home on a Monday night.

That's a shame for Justin Fields and the Bears. Marsh and a few others on the Bears defense took that win away from Chicago.
Fields throws a nice ball. I think he's going to be good. If Bears fans disagree, send him on over. You can have Ben, Rudolph, and Dobbs.

-Mike
Yeah, I thought he looked really good overall. First half he looked a little average, but man he made some gorgeous throws in the second half and played much better.

To many penalties!

Refs once again affecting the outcome of a game. Kind of horse hockey penalty there for taunting. Maybe the NFL shouldn't be in the business of partnering with online gaming sites. But it has, and it's now dirty and looks dirty.

Yup. The NFL jumping in bed with sports betting was a bad move overall in my opinion. But I get it, Goodell has a job to line the owners pockets with money. He is good at that, with not much regard for the integrity of the game along the way.
Disclaimer: I do not gamble in any fashion.

I don't see the point in gambling, but that's just my take on the world. I don't play golf, either. So there you have it.

Russell Wilson is going to be back this weekend. I wonder what kinds of residual effects there will be from his finger injury. The middle finger on your throwing hand has to be pretty important when it comes to throwing a ball accurately. There's next to no doubt that he will play if he has medical clearance. It takes little short of a straight jacket to keep him off the field. He was probably going out of his mind for the last month.

As for the call of taunting, while it is a weak call, I also think that kind of garbage does not belong in the game.
Marsh takes several steps toward the Steelers sideline staring down the players. His teammate even comes over to celebrate with him, but he is too focused on making some kind of point to the Steelers sideline. Griese and Riddick even acknowledged during the game that while the call was weak, you've got to keep your head in the game. Especially in tight games where you have a chance to win.
I never once thought he was taunting Harvin or any of the Steeler players coming onto the field. It was obvious to me he had some kind of point to make. Maybe to Tomlin? Butler? His former Steeler teammates? Whatever it was, it was weak to do it and to me meets the definition of taunting. I don't care if that has been his celebration throughout his entire career as he claimed it was, it's not allowed.
I have no dislike for the Bears, I wanted them to win, or Marsh. That is not coloring my opinion of the situation. If TJ Watt did the same thing, I would have agreed with the call.
Speaking of, the Steelers should have received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for that crapshow Heyward and his buddies put on after the interception.
What the heck? It's the friggin first quarter and he's acting like they just won the Super Bowl over some dumb INT.

-Mike

Taunting is something the refs were told to focus on this year, so it doesn't matter how many times you've done it or how inconsistent the enforcement is, no one should be surprised when it's called.

Yeah, the choreographed mugging for the camera after a big play is lame. Save the energy so maybe you don't get rolled over in the fourth quarter.

It's his wheels I'm worried about. He's kind of a fan favorite going back to his playing days at Wisconsin

I have no concerns about his physical fitness. He's going to slow down one day, but if he wants to pull a Fran Tarkenton and run all over the place this weekend, he probably can do it.
Yea, that's what I'm worried about!

I'll take Chicago, 27-23.

-Mike

The refs stole the game from you.

I've never been one to complain about bad officiating. Mistakes happen and you just deal with it. But I have to make an exception for this game.

The Bears got totally hosed on Monday night. It's true that Chicago did take too many bad penalties and they deserved to get called for those, but I counted 6 penalties that were just ridiculous miscalls, and it cost the Bears at least 7 points and the game.

I totally agree with you on this! I about came out of my recliner when they did that. My wife was a couple rooms away and heard me yelling, "*** is THAT??!!!" Disgraceful and classless IMO.

I'm a Steelers fan, and I agree. Several terrible calls in that game. The Bears got robbed.

That said, the Steelers seem to get a lot of bad calls or non-calls against them most of the time. I can't tell you how many times Ben has been blasted hard on late hits that were never called. Brady would get those calls every time. (I LIKE Brady, but he sure seemed protected by the refs.) And nothing was called on that clear helmet-to-helmet hit on Boswell in the Browns game.

But yes, the Bears definitely got hosed in this one.
