^^^^^^Not enough likes possible for this post. Near as i can tell, the purpose of it when called by any coach is to "prevent" his team from winning.
The prevent defense allows a TD, but not in a big play so the other team gets the ball back right away. It forces the other team to use up the clock more than they want to. You know, the whole idea of take what the defense will give you.
In last night's game, Baltimore had to score twice. The Miami prevent defense would allow Baltimore to march down the field 5-8 yards at a time while using up the clock. Playing tight defense as normal could cause a missed coverage or let a player get loose behind the defense. Then boom, Baltimore scores in a minute or less and suddenly they are an onside kick or good defensive stand away from getting the ball again.
Flores and his defense, in my opinion, played it perfectly against one of the best QB's in the game right now.

Let me add too how jealous I was watching that game last night. Had that been the Steelers, it would have ended 24-22 Baltimore.
Flores is a good coach. I wasn't so sure about him at first, thought maybe he was handling Tua wrong, but I take it back.

I saw a couple of close games over the weekend where the defense went after the QB and kept them from scoring. That just makes more sense to me....as I'm comfortably seated on my couch, yelling at the TV, and drinking a Leinenkugel.
#2 offense swings into town against one of the statistically worst defenses in the league. Who among us would have predicted anything other than a solid win by the Dolphins in the 2021 NFL? Lol.
Nobody in the AFC seems to be trying to get to the Super Bowl by improving week-to-week except for Tennessee and New England. Those teams that are talent-packed seem unfocused and willing to squander their riches any given week just…because, while the others struggle to keep - or even get - their heads above water.
Pretty sure now that we’ll end up with a 13-way tie for the third playoff spot, with tiebreakers determining all the slots from there on down. Must-see TV as they broadcast players and execs warming up for at least a half-dozen coin tosses, with fans clogging social media with complaints about officials’ questionable flipping techniques and “what idiot does not call ‘heads’??!!!” posts.

That's kind of cool to see Cam Newton back in Carolina. He sure looks happy and so far is saying all the right things.
I guess going from unemployed to NFL starting QB is bound to put a smile on any guys face though.

The AFC does look like a crapshoot. However, a rookie quarterback has never started in the Super Bowl, and I don’t think Mac Jones is going to buck that trend.
Nice catch, hadn’t really ever thought about that. I was thinking Big Ben might have, but while the youngest to ever win one at 23, he wasn’t a rookie.
But I wouldn’t put it past the Patriots, who have defied the rules of physics many times over by now, and always play better in the second half of the season and even better in the last quarter of the season. They’re a team that will benefit from and take advantage of the extra game this year.
I lived in the Bay Area back in the ‘80s and early ‘90s and the BB era Patriots have always reminded me a lot of the Walsh era 49ers - a few key stars, but lots of interchangeable widgets they find that fit their system. They then coach the hell out of them down to the finest details until they also look like stars. And then, a tight, businesslike, disciplined ship that stamps out drama before it starts. (The Niners were either the very first or one of the first teams to ban hazing of rookies in training camp and such. When asked about it back in the day, Walsh had a blunt, 2-word response: “We’re professionals.”)
Edit: Just after posting this, NE was crushing the Browns so badly that CBS actually cut away to cover “a more competitive game” in Tennessee. So much for one of the big games of the day…)

If that's not enough to fire Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada, nothing is. What an embarrassment to Steeler fans and former players.
Mind you, Pittsburgh had to fight back to merely tie that game.
Don't even try and tell me it was because Ben was out. Ben has been 'out' for a couple years now. Having him in the game is no longer an x factor like it used to be.

A lot of blame to go around though. Kendall Green snapping in the shotgun like it was Abdul-Jabbar at QB. Rudolph wasn't too bad, but sailed a number of passes too high (ala Kendall Green). The normally sure-handed Pat Friermuth dropping a few, plus the killer fumble on their last offensive play. Devin Bush looked like he was trying to tackle greased pigs out there. ("I got him! I got him! WHIFF. Where'd he go?!") The entire run defense in the 1st half.

I was on the road during the game so didn't see or hear any of it. From what I'm reading on the message boards, there was plenty of suck to go around. Holding a team to under 17 points should be enough to win a game (that's the formula I've always used anyway) if the offense is at least competent. They have a few good players on the offensive side, but not enough. With the idiotic Tomlin decisions that pop up every game, they don't have a chance to be playoff caliber.
Bush is a bust. He started off kind of ok, got that injury, now he's nothing. Minkah rolled into Pittsburgh with a fresh perspective and made some plays initially, but now we see why Miami was ok with letting a first round draft pick walk.
Washington has two PI calls against him today and a fumble. He needs to go along with McCloud.
Green and Moore on that offensive line aren't NFL players, that's obvious at this point.
Yep, a collective suck fest from the Steelers today, but for me it all starts at the top. Why didn't Tomlin have these guys ready and playing like crazed dogs (LT reference for the oldies like me) to get the win with first place in the division on the line?
To me, the Steelers didn't play with any urgency or intensity.
They get the ball with 19 seconds left and a timeout around the 20 yard line in the fourth, game tied. What does Tomlin do against the worst team in the NFL? Downs it and plays for OT. To me that screams a lack of confidence in the players, game plan, and preparedness.
But hey, I'm slowly realizing that mediocrity is now the standard in Pittsburgh. The fans that remember the Super Bowl teams are getting fewer every year. Being ok is acceptable for a whole new generation of fans who are more excited about big plays and fashionable fan gear.
