NFL draft tonight, thoughts?

I think my Steelers got a pretty good O-lineman also. Maurkise Pouncey out of Florida. Rimington Award winner (for best Center in the country). Looks like the Steelers plan to start him out at Guard though. But Pouncey says he's cool with Guard or Center.

We sho' did. I am most happy with this pick. I love it. I'm hoping we snag a couple more Gators as the draft goes on. Spikes is still on the board.

1st Round Winners:

Seattle - Got a Top 3 OT and instant starter/playmaker at S. A great night's work.

49ers - Realized it all starts in the trenches and drafted accordingly. Studs at T and G should make life a lot more fun for the skill position players this year.

Dez Bryant: Gave up a lockdown Top 10 position and a few million dollars by being irresponsible and a general immature tool, but gets to play for a contending team.

1st Round Losers:

Denver: Pre-McDaniels - Cutler, Marshall & Sheffler. Today - Orton/Quinn/Tebow, Thomas and I don't even know who at TE. Broncs fans, I think Tebow is a great guy but your HC is a tool and this will be his last NFL coaching gig ever if he keeps destroying the talent base like he has been.

Jimmy Clausen: He must have really turned some people off in his interviews.

Taylor Mays: Has to be really wishing he would have come out last year when he would have been a Top 15 pick. He lost millions yesterday and the clock is still ticking.

What-The-Eff Awards:

Jacksonville: A 2nd round DT in the Top 10? Seriously? Yeah that should fill those empty seats.

Detroit: Two 1st round picks and no O-Lineman? Your young QB is in for a long year.

Singletary's no rookie and he ain't "flash in the pan" silly. I dig his style.

See above comment on being a "flash in the pan" ;)

Run Matty Run!

:D

God Bless, Ray

Tebows a really great guy but i dont see a NFL quarterback in him

The Broncos had just picked up Brady Quinn.

This stacking the deck with (potential) quarterback talent can only mean one thing: Future trade opportunities.

Josh McD is still desperately trying to acquire a straight flush with clever tactics the way they do it in New England.

Maybe he'll get a clue that eventually team cohesion and his coaching skills are needed ingredients for post-season success.

The question is, is he gonna get that all done before the Denver fan base essentially forces Pat Bowlen to run him out of town? Most Broncos fans I know are hating McDaniels' guts right about now and think Bowlen has lost his mind.

As for stacking the deck with QBs to trade. Seriously... Orton, Quinn and Tebow... I can't think of a team that would give more than a 3rd rounder for any of them right now. Maybe Tebow, but that's only cause he's the only one whose limitations in the NFL haven't been exposed yet.

Good points. As a die-hard Donkeys fan, not the fair-weather variety, I am befuddled by Pat Bowlen and this organization, and can only scratch my head and hope for the best.

For the first time in my life, I will be rooting for the Redskins. Go Shanny!

oh yeah! that was hilarious, so much hype, which i believe was ill placed on really no real proof. theres still a chance that my boy colt can go before him, which id love to rub in ANY ND fan. the most obnoxious ppl in the world, including boston fans.

Right...because we all know that the round or position a player is selected in determines how successful they will be. :rollno:

That Beluga guy was a great blend of value and need for the Packers. Personally I thought he was overrated as a Top 15 pick -- the feet just aren't there to be a premier blindside pass protector -- but where the Packers got him is about where he belongs.

It was painful watching him run those 40s at the combine, but OT isn't about running 40 yards anyway. And he looks strong as an ox.

Coach Hoodie did what he does best and traded down, stockpiled picks and still got a guy (Rutgers CB McCourty) that can help them out in the secondary and on special teams which used to be a Patriot strength but has lately been a weakness.

The real test is tonight with the 3 2nd rounders and needs at WR, TE and OLB.

It looks like Bill was puffing up Tebow - I wonder if he'll take Claussen or McCoy if either are available at 14th of the second round. Gard says he likes early 2nd round QB's - probably a safer bet than finding another Hall of Famer in the sixth round. :D

I was happy to hear that my Raiders picked up McClain from Alabama. He was a baller in school, and the leader on his team. He's the kind of guy who makes the whole defense accountable. Exactly the kind of guy we need in Oakland.

But.........

My stomach dropped just a little bit when it showed him receiving the phone call. You see all the kids before him, suit on at the draft, hugging their family members and close friends, going up for the photo op, etc....and I don't know McClain's story, so I can't judge. And I really hope I'm wrong but it looked to me like he was surrounded by college girls and his homies (it sounds kind of racist...but I'm black, it's just how I talk) throwin up gang signs at the camera, wanting to show their faces and look relevant...just had "hangers on who will show up in a police report for possession of dat stiiiiiicky iiiiiiicky in McClain's car" written all over them.

Maybe I'm just a long suffering and paranoid raiders fan, and it's really never been my style to think anything negatively about anyone I see. But I saw McClain and I said, "yeah, that's an Oakland Raider"

I really hope my last post wasn't inflammatory; I looked it over a couple times and I don't think it is.
I really like Eric Berry also, the guy the Chefs got. He'll be getting 4 picks a year for a while just from his games against us.
I also read somewhere that in college he would come in on Fridays and help the equipment guys clean helmets. Real classy dude

Yeah, we GOTTA get a pass rush! With the defense the Jets have we got to get plenty of pressure on Sanchez and keep those Jet RBs at bay. That's how we can beat them in what will surely be low-scoring games.

The Raiders, surprisingly for a change, got a good player with McClain. In terms of a guy who is actually going to help them right away (vs. some physical specimen whose workout numbers don't translate to the field), it's the best 1st round pick by far that team has made in years.

I wouldn't worry too much about the character issue. I follow Bama football pretty closely and Andre Smith's miscues last year notwithstanding, Saban tends to turn out well coached football players who are also high-caliber people. With all the thuggery that's been rampant in the league this offseason you're right to be concerned, but I think McClain will be OK.
