NFL Week #18 THE PLAYOFFS

Hehehe, nice.

Walking out of Qwest last night, it was kind of embarrassing how pretty much all the Saints fans were making excuses and talking how they didn't show up, so they got beat. No Saints fans, you showed up just fine. You got beat by a team that played better than you.

So let's just say it is true, the Saints did not show up and that is why they lost. If I'm the owner of the Saints I'm taking Sean Payton and all his staff and giving them all a pink slips tomorrow morning. There is NO excuse for any team in the NFL not to "show up" or be ready for a playoff game. Of course, when I provided that line of reasoning to the Saints fans who would stop talking long enough to listen to me, I then heard how Payton is the second coming of Lombardi and how stupid the rest of the NFL was for not hiring him or Gregg Williams.

The Jets just shut down the #1 passing offense in the league. If they can do that, then they can shut down the Pats 11th ranked passing game. People tend to forget that the Jets did beat the Pats in their first match 28-14.

It's also worth mentioning that the Jets offensive line is just as good, if not better than the Pats O line. Brady was sacked 3 times to Sanchez's 1 in that 45-3 blow out. Even that one sack on Sanchez, he was no where close to being put on the ground. They blew the whistle to "protect the QB from potential injury." He was still standing quite upright, on his 2 feet when the whistle blew. Hardly what anyone could call a legitimate sack.

The Jets can beat the Pats next week if they play old school smash mouth ball by establishing the running game and then creating pressure on Brady. Both of these things can be done, because the Jets do have the better rushing game and better defense than the Pats do. I'm not saying the Jets will win, but to rule them out is just crazy.

Each Saints defensive player should be forced to watch that Lynch touchdown every morning from now until the opening regular season kickoff next year. Terrible impersonation of an NFL defense on that play.

Every Saints player should learn to go for the tackle and not just try to strip the ball. A lot of coordinators today are pushing their players to go for a strip rather than a tackle. Wrap the guy up and he'll go down. Try to get your hands/fist/helmet on the ball and you're chances are greatly diminished, especially by a good back who can keep his feet moving and literally push you off of him ("GET OFF OF ME!" is going to be one of those things we'll be hearing a LONG time here in the PNW).

I fully agree with this. I've also heard people complain about bad officiating, which I don't really think was really much of an issue. I've always thought that in the playoffs, the refs should take a less strict approach and more "let them play", unless it's a bigger mistake. All in all, calls were blown on both sides of the ball, though, and that did -not- cause the Saints to lose. They were outplayed and out coached. I really had the feeling they didn't prep well for this game.

Indeed. It's going to be an awesome match up again next week at Heinz! Can not wait to watch that one go down!

The team that got beat by the Jets is NOT the same team that hung 45 points on the Jets in the second game.

You're right, it's not the same team. The don't have Randy Moss anymore. That's really the only difference in the team.

C'mon Jon, that whole "they're not the same team" makes it sound like they started the season crappy then suddenly turned it around.

The Pats have been consistent all season. They beat the Bengals in game 1, then lost to the Jets in game 2. After game 2 they went on a 5 game tear. Lost to the Browns (a crappy team) in week 9, then won their last 8. Other than Moss not being there, it's pretty much the same team.

Most everyone thought the Colts were going to roust the Jets, but they got fooled. The same thing could happen to the Pats next weekend. I'm not saying it can't happen, but do not expect another ass whoopin like the 45-3 game. I just don't see that happening.

What got the Jets skunked that game was the Jets defense not playing up to snuff and Sanchez having a very bad night. If you look at the box score, other than in passing yards, the stats are actually pretty close.

If the Jets stick to the ground game and pound it out, then they can beat the Pats again. I'd also expect mad amounts of pressure being thrown at Brady too. Also, if Sanchez plays like he did against the Colts with overthrown and high passes, then no matter how good the Jets ground game is they will lose.

You can't really say (paraphrase) If you look at all the stats, expect one that means A LOT, they were even. Oh, the Offenses weren't getting equal yards, but if we ignore that, they were even otherwise. If we also ignore that they got more points than us, then we can say it was a good game.

The only thing even remotely negative about playoff football is that it signals the beginning of the end. When it's over, it's nothing but all basketball all the time. BARF. Unfortunately, hockey doesn't get very much air time here in my part of the Bluegrass State.
