NFL Week #18 THE PLAYOFFS

That there is the guy they should be giving all the reps and attention to in my opinion. Too bad he was hurt and they had to sign St. Pierre. I wanted to see him play this year more.

To add on to MJ5150... Should ease of schedule come into play then? The Chicago Bears for example... 9 of 16 games were against teams with a losing record. Kansas City? 10 games were against teams with a losing record and 2 teams with an 8-8 record. Or to put it another way. Kansas City played 3 games against teams with winning record and two of them were against the 9-7 San Diego Chargers. Seattle, in the weakest division, only played 8 games against teams with a losing record. The same amount as the New England Patriots. I could probably go on and on...
And in case you didn't read my earlier post (Only because you mentioned the NFC West) 3 of the 4 games this weekend have the best record going on the road.
What happens when the league moves to 18 games? Sounds as if there will be more teams with mediocre or losing records getting into the playoffs.
One way to compromise and level the playing field would be to leave the current playoff system in place, except seed the teams based on W-L. Sure there are still flaws based on strength of schedule, but it's a start.
Yes, but it's not that simple I don't think as Waterpilot alluded to in his strength of schedule post. The NFC West situation is obvious, but it's the first time it's ever happened in a non strike season isn't it? So it's really an anomaly. And anomalies happen. Hence the need for the word...
I do understand what you mean though and agree with you your premise (as far as best teams) BTW, but I'm just not sure that making it the best record would be fair.

Saints v Seahawks - Common sense would dictate the Saints in this one. Seattle was in a weak division and lost to most of the better teams this season. The Saints are in fact the better team.
Green Bay v Philadelphia - I'm thinking this game will be pretty close and could go either way. But, I'm going with the Eagles on this one. Better offensive line IMO
Ravens v. Chiefs - Ravens.
Jets vs Colts - I'm going with my Jets on this one, not because I'm a Jets fan, but because Indy is rated 29th in rushing, 13th against the pass, and 25th against the rush. The Jets are 4th in rushing, 6th against the pass, and 3rd against the run.
Though Indy is ranked 1 in passing, and the Jets are ranked 22, the Jets defense should be more than enough to contain Indy's receivers and snuff out the run. The Jets offense should be able to rush fairly well, which in turn, will keep the ball out of Manning's hands and also chew up the clock. Not to mention, the Jets do have one of the best offensive lines in the game.
The Jets also have a 6-2 road record and performed slightly better on the road than at home, so the "home field advantage" doesn't bother me too much this week.
BTW, to those that said the Jets are the team that don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Yes they do deserve to be there. The team that doesn't deserve to be in them is the Seahawks. Any team with a losing record (and theirs is 7-9) is definitely one IMO that should be watching the playoffs rather than playing in them.

There is always a chance...and....Any given Sunday...and all that jazz.
With the odds at what they are + Saints running back situation + playing in Seattle with crowd noise and weather favoring them. I can't imagine going any other route on this game. If they lose so what. But if they pull it off.....
I disagree completely. Winning your division is important, regardless of how the seeds fall. If Green Bay won the NFC North, but had a worse record than the Eagles, would you want them to have to travel to Philly for the game, especially if Philly was a Wild Card team? I would bet not.
The teams that make it as a Wild Card are just that. They are the BEST teams that COULDN'T win a division being granted a second shot at the playoffs.
Strength of schedule and the like is hogwash as far as the NFL is concerned. Why? Because all 32 teams get the same chance to win. They all play the same free agent and draft pool, and they are all in pre-structured divisions. All 32 NFL teams have a chance to win the Super Bowl, and all 32 are pro teams playing other pro teams.

I'm with ya jp58. If you want a first round home game and maybe a bye, win your division. If you can't win your division, stop whining.
