NFL Week #19 the Playoffs - Divisional Round

Wow, I sure called that one wrong. I underestimated the 49er secondary. Too bad the Saints D played so bad. Drew deserved better.

Part of the debate for this weekend was great defense vs great offense....like it has been for years, great defense seems to have the edge. Ya still need more points, but the defense makes "more points" more achievable.

New Orleans played a whale of a game....SF had a bigger whale today! Exciting finish.

Patriots game was entertaining to see the Patriot Defense come alive....they are ready for the next round with what I suspect will be the Ravens. This is the matchup I've been waiting for, but after tonight I would have to give NE the edge. Patriots have not played Balto this year, so there could be some random variables in play.

The Pats' defense was pretty impressive tonight. I know it was against Tebow, yada yada, but if they keep up this level of play for the next two games it'll be another Lombardi Trophy for the Pats. The defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage all night long, which is just what you have to do to win games.

If I was betting, I would've won today (you'll just have to take my word for that, obviously,) and I would have the Pack, and the Ravens for tomorrow.

The Ravens can definitely give the Pats a run for their money.

I'm starting to wonder if anyone can beat the niners, though.

That ranks up there with that Houston/Buffalo game in the late 80s where they just traded touchdowns.

I think the question I posed of potent offenses vs defenses winning championships is unanswered. Towards the end of 3rd qtr to the end, 9rs didn't really have too much an answer for Brees, but indeed there were some great, great plays on well placed balls by the 9rs secondary. I mean, at the end it was like daring each other to match score for score. The Smith throw to Davis, who you couldn't help but almost ball along with him as he came off the field after the last TD, reminded me of the Young to TO on the last play of the game in the early 90s, sending the 9rs to either the NFC Championship game or the SB.

In any event, what a great game.

GO PACK GO! Hey, Hey Invalid Link Removed

Two years in a row the Saints fall late to a team led by a mediocre QB. I know everyone thinks Gregg Williams is a defensive whiz, so maybe it is conditioning? I'm not really a Saints fan, but it was embarrassing watching Alex Smith march down the field over and over again. The bootleg TD? For 30 yards? Wow.

So the Tebow bandwagon made it's final stop in Foxborough. It was fun while it lasted, even at the expense of my hometown team the Steelers. Well, I washed it up this morning and winterized it real good. It will be ready to go in August.

I expected these two games to be opposite. The Saints torching the 49ers and the Broncos winning late.

Glad you were able to be there.
My singer (from Funkranomicon) is on the freakin' cover of the Mercury News (in his "Escabador de Oro) costume. Crazy that they put him there. And yeah, he's totally hoarse too.

I have to admit that the Steelers would've been similarly embarassed had they had a different OT outcome with Denver...and it would've hurt them bad.

Pittsburgh would have beat New England last night like they already did once this year.

Not! But, they got Tebow'd so they are watching football just like Denver now. Pats FTW!

Umm, I have a real issue w GW actually. How do you single cover Vernon Davis repeatedly? He was the only passing game weapon the 49ers had. GW supposedly going to St Louis with Jeff Fisher. Might be a good time for a fresh defensive outlook in NOLA.

Why is it crazy talk? It's no more crazy than your idea. :)

I've been hearing the tired, old, and slow comments all season. That same slow and old defense finished #1 in the NFL...again. Despite having hardly any turnovers.
