Big +1

Congrats to the Patriots and their fans. That defense was massive. I really didn't expect Denver to win, but they usually squeek out a few more yards than that, even against good defenses. Pats defense rose above itself and completely stuffed Denver. If Pats D continues to be that good, I don't see any team stopping them from a Lombardi Trophy.

Nonsense, Brady was a pretty darn good college QB, he was just in a great system. That U of M team sent about 9 offensive players to the NFL in the first couple of rounds including Steve Hutchinson, David Terrill, Mario Manningham, and Jeff Backus. He beat both AL and AR (SEC teams) in bowl games. I think the reason he was overlooked was that Drew Henson, and Bryan Griese (the guys ahead of him) looked better and more Athletic. He was a freshman on the 97 NCAA champions. Brady wasn't flashy and he played in a run based offense, but I don't know any U of M fan that was surprised by Brady being a good NFL QB. How good may have been a surprise.

Brady played college football for, and graduated from, the University of Michigan.[17][18] He was a backup his first two years, while teammate and future NFL quarterback Brian Griese led the Wolverines to a share of the national championship in 1997 in the Rose Bowl. When he enrolled at Michigan, Brady was seventh on the depth chart and had an intense struggle to get some playing time. At one point, Brady hired a sports psychologist to help him cope with frustration and anxiety and even considered transferring to Cal.[19][20] Brady battled for the starting job with Drew Henson,[18] ultimately starting every game in the 1998 and 1999 seasons under Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. During his first full year as starter, he set Michigan records for most pass attempts and completions in a season (214).[21] Brady was All-Big Ten (honorable mention) both seasons and team captain his senior year. The Wolverines won 20 of 25 games when he started and shared the Big Ten Conference title in 1998. Brady capped that season with a win over Arkansas in the Citrus Bowl.[22] In the 1999 season, Brady led Michigan to an overtime win in the Orange Bowl over Alabama, throwing for 369 yards and four touchdowns.[18]

Yeah, Smith really proved his mediocrity with his play and behavior under pressure, down 3 to the unstoppable Saints with 1:37 to play.

sigh...

I'm not close to ready to call smith a "Great" QB yet, but his turnaround this year has been pretty amazing. And for those of us in the Bay area who wondered "what would he be like with decent coaching and some consistency around and above him", we're getting a surprisingly positive answer.

And look where that got them. The Pats had the 2nd to last D. Now they are in the AFC title game. The NFL has changed. It's not all about the defense anymore. But, the Pats D last night sure did look like a force to be reckoned with! See you in Indy!

Don't be so quick to get offended. He has played great this season,but when you look at his entire career in the NFL so far, he is mediocre, with this season making him that much. It would be nice for this great play to continue.

It got the Steelers over a win against the Patriots. It's all I have to hang on to now, so leave me alone. :)

I'll disagree. The NFL is all about defense. Ask New Orleans and Green Bay.

The Patriots lucked out when Baltimore won today, as they'd have a hard time slowing down the Houston RB's and Andre Johnson. Then again, if Flacco and Ray Rice get rolling, it will be tough for New England to win. They also lucked out when Denver beat Pittsburgh, and you know it.
