NFL Week #2

Lions play a banged up out of sync Chiefs team at home. Losing their All Pro safety has Calvin Johnson practicing end zone dance routines. I wasn't sure about this one going into the season, but the Lions dominated a very good Tampa Bay team last week in their house.

Tampa Bay didn't get an offensive TD until the fourth and they were unable to run the ball against Detroit. I was a bit worried about the defensive backfield in Detroit, but if game one (of course it may not be) is any indication the Lions have one of the elite defenses in the league. There is no doubt in my mind that the LB core is head and shoulders above last year, Tulloch may be pro bowl bound behind this defensive front. I think the Lions continue the hot start.

The Marcus Gilbert era begins in Pittsburgh on Sunday. He'll be taking over for Willie Colon who went on IR yesterday because of a torn triceps. Hopefully he can play as well as his fellow Gator on the line, Pouncey. I'm half surprised the Steelers didn't bring Starks back.

Being from Sac. I was ( and am ) a hug Alex Mack fan. I'm glad he was the start of something good for the Browns.
I wanted the Titans to draft him SO bad that year as I knew center was going to be a position of need in the immediate future. The guy is a keystone player.

No. He's almost 30. He had been injured and came to camp out of shape, so that combined with his hefty salary made him a casualty. There was talk of bringing him back at a reduced rate, so I figured I would see a Starks signing this week. Surprised me a bit to see them sign Meredith instead.

If it really was because he was out of shape and not playing hard to the point where it pissed Tomlin off, I wish Tomlin would take that hard line stance with the other jagoffs on the team.

NFL - Week 1 Total QBR Leaders - ESPN

Total QB Rating from week 1. I really feel like this is an improvement over the "old" passer rating system and, despite the VY homers, it's nice to see a Titan's QB in the top half of the league. It's a little unbelievable to me that Henne and Brady aren't 1-2 though. Even more shocking is that Cam, Fitzpatrick, and Grossman (holder of the league's only 0.0 QB rating ever) are all in the top 10.

One thing that jumped out at me while watching the debacle against the Ravens: Virtually nobody on the defense did much of anything. Names that were rarely mentioned in a positive manner: Woodley, Harrison, Timmons, Polamalu, Clark, Smith, Keisel, Hampton. Those are the guys you need to make plays. They all got embarrassed out there. And the offense was just as inept.

Supposedly Tomlin has decided not to bench Farrior in favor of Foote for entire series this weekend. That will help. I never did watch the Ravens game, but I heard Troy looked slow. That is disappointing since everything I read online before this was how he was back, he was healed, and he was ready to be the old Troy again.

Harrison's back is bothering him more than they want to admit. Tomlin has them breathing fire come Sunday.
Tough one in the ATL but I think the Eagles tough it out. That wide 9 D was what the Pats used against the Eagles in 2004 SB.
I hope the giants self destruct again. :spit:

Bears over the Saints in a tight tough one.
If Romo loses to the 9'ers he's done.
Arizona over the Skins.

I like the Bears chances against the Aints. The offense is excellent, but they will be without their top 2 receivers, Colston and Moore. The Bears CBs match up well against Henderson and Meachem in physicality, so if they can bump them off routes, and the safeties prevent the long play, they can be held in check. Based on the GB game, the NO middle doesn't seem to have much push, so I'm expecting Okoye and Melton to have a disruptive day. If the Bears LBs can cover the sidelines, we can shut down the run game. But, the Bears may not have Urlacher since his mother died today. If he's out, it'll be an entirely different D, and I don't like our chances as much without him.

The Aints D is over-rated IMO. They just aren't on the field as much, thus their stats. Anyway, they will be missing Will Smith, so they won't have their best edge rusher. The Bears O-line is still a work in progress, but this injury will make things a little easier. If they can keep Cutler upright, and get some blocking up the middle, the Bears O will have a great day. The NO secondary looks suspect, and they are poor tacklers. Forte has the speed to break it into the secondary, so if he gets some blocking, I think hell break a couple of big ones. I hope Martz designs some YAC type plays for the receivers to exploit that weakness.

I think it will be a great game. Top D vs Top O.

We will get a better idea about the Eagles D after facing Atlanta. Although St. Louis' Sam Bradford will be a future star, this season his wide-outs are as bad as the crew accompaying McNabb early in his career.

Ryan has Roddy White, Julio Jones, Tony Gonzales.
Philadelphia lacks the strong linebacking of the Bears that played Falcons last week.

With the lock-out and the truncated camps it will take three weeks or so for the NFL to get up to speed. What we saw last Sunday was glorified pre-season.

i WAS GLAD THEY PICKED HIM. i'M THE TYPE OF PERSON THAT THINKS IT'S PERFECTLY ALRIGHT TO PICK AN o-LINEMAN IN THE FIRST ROUND EVERY YEAR.
