NFL Week #2

Nasty bit of traveling for Da Rayduhs! Run DMC all day, every day. I need them to feed that man. He's part of my two headed attack in my keeper league.

Fitz to Johnson is looking like a very good combo in Buff. and Fred Jackson doesn't get nearly enough props for his work there.

Shoot, I forgot Freddy Jackson was even in Buffalo. Guess that's the story of his NFL life, though.

I hope Oakland can hang. It will be like it's 10AM for us, and it will be colder than we're used to! (Yes, I said "we," ans "us." And no, I've never played for the Raiders. So sue me :D )

SUUUURRE. I watched....and remember, EVERY knowledgeable sportscaster and sports talk guy in Denver agrees that this team has crappy personnel and there is absolutely no chance they will win even 8 games this years.

The offensive like can't block - he was under pressure all night. The defense was pitiful and couldn't stop anything consistently - especially the run - and his receivers dropped most of the passes he threw. It was a bad performance from top to bottom, except for the QB. Orton did the best he could with a team that's inferior and receivers who can't catch a ball.

Orton is currently one of the most competent players on the team, but the Denver Lemming league is stampeding over the "Blame Orton" cliff anyway.

You gotta feel for Orton. You could swap "Bears" for "Broncos" in the paragraphs above and you would be describing exactly the team he played with when he was in Chicago... terrible OL, bad WRs and a D that had the offense playing from behind more often than not. Then Orton comes to what was at the time a pretty decent Broncos team and in one year that idiot McDaniels tears it all down right in front of his eyes.

Give the guy a capable supporting cast and he can win you games... or at least, not lose them (which makes him better than about half the starting QBs out there today). He's never had that but people don't seem to understand that.

I think the GM gig for Peyton is more likely to happen than the HC thing.

Peyton to me, seems like more of a front office dude than an on-the-sidelines guy. Even though his football intelligence and preparation habits make him excellent HC material too. I don't think Peyton would have a lot of tolerance for all these 21-year old divas coming to the pro's out of college today. Plus it seems to me a decent NFL GM can probably get by with a 50-55 hour work week compared to the insane hours an NFL coaching staff puts in.

You gotta admit though, his first couple of seasons in Chicago were pretty harsh. He didn't display much arm strength, he was inaccurate, made wild throws, etc. The year they had the 11-5 season and lost to Carolina in the playoffs, Orton was just a game manager. He really wasn't asked to do much. It was the defense and special teams that got them there.

When Orton got traded, it was the best for all parties, IMO. Orton was going to a team with an offensive guru in McDaniels, and the Bears were getting a QB with physical skills way ahead of Orton's. Orton was an excellent game manager, but he had nowhere near the arm of Cutler. Denver also got Orton at the peak of his career, after going through learning the hard way in Chicago. IMO, Orton really didn't peak until he got to Denver and got to work with McDaniels.

Orton wasn't as good of a QB in his stint in Chicago, but I still don't think many of the fans appreciated what he did.

I don't think he was fully appreciated in Chicago either. He may not have been as good as "good Rex" Grossman but even on his worst day he was miles better than "bad Rex" who we wound up seeing way too often.

Regarding Cutler, as a Bears fan I was outraged by how much we gave up to get him but I also had to prop the front office for making such a bold move. It's way early in the season but it looks like Cutler is positioning himself in all the right ways to make this a career year. I'm still not sure the Bears have all the pieces in place (especially at WR) for him to make another Pro Bowl trip, and the competition is fierce (Brees, Rodgers, Vick, etc.) but they're getting there. I know it's fashionable to hate on Cutler but I've always kinda liked the guy. His skills are undeniable and I think the frequent comparisons to Jeff George and calling him "Quitler" have been way out of line. I'm hoping he makes a lot of people eat crow this year and for more years to come.

I have not seen a game Orton has quaterbacked in earnest since he played at Purdue.

I can understand the confusion as it relates to the Denver fans, Tim Tebow was like God and/or Clapton at Florida. Hopefully Tebow can find his way to Philadelphia where he can be converted to an H-back or better yet a linebacker
