NFL Week 3 Thread

Speaking of rivalry Da Boys lost last night to the Skins in a heartbreaker. The last four minutes unravelled.

Hang that loss on Parcells. The Cowboys had the ball with 3:42 left. Washington had two timeouts, and the 2:00 minute warning. Seven plays later, including a first down, the Cowboys only ran :54 seconds off the clock. Poor clock management, and it certainly wasn't Bledsoe or Jones' fault.

Luckily for FIBS like me, we got just enough reception to laugh at Milwaukee radio stations. "Aye der, da Packers are gonna win da nort, ya?"
FIBS like you certainly would have remembered that "dey couldn't win da nort, der hey." They were in the Central division back then, poser. :D

However, I do know of him and his family personally. He's a jerk. His family too. I know the media portray him as a wonderful guy, but that's all smoke & mirrors and throwing money at people.
Sorry, Gard, but you'll have to back this kind of a statement up with something better than "my sister's brother-in-law's cousin's former roomate told him that...."

That's pretty bold and, left unsubstantiated, really low.

Sure, no problem.

I was in a bar in downtown Slidell, LA with some friends (Second Story, if you want to know the exact place for any reason). Farve comes in DRUNK OFF HIS @$$, and proceeds to rudely insult a girl at the bar, whom he does not know from the signpost out front. The bar is a 3rd story walkup (well, sorry, WAS, it's probably gone now after Katrina).

The girl's boyfriend, a sizeable character himself, walks up to Farve, pushes him out the door and DOWN THE STAIRS.

Farve's bodyguard smiles, nods, and says, "He deserved that, I've been wanting to do it for weeks.", and just calmly walks out.

He totally deserved it, he was a trashmouthed @$$hole to her, without any cause. Heck, I damn near stood up and did the same to him (and I could have, trust me), but the boyfriend beat me to it.

First hand, first person. Good enough?

Anything else you want to hear about him?

He's a GREAT football player. He's not a great person.

Beautiful! It brings a tear to my eye.
Whenever I have trouble sleeping at night, I'll think of this story and all will be calm. I will share this with my children and grandchildren as a favorite bedtime story to be passed on for generations.

Can't fault your logic, plus a few other things fell off the shelf in the defense too. A classic example of a team beating themselves when they had the game in the bag.

Well, since I can't verify anything first person, I'll have to take your word for it. I can only say that I used to drink a lot more than I should have as well. Hopefully he's realized that about himself, too.

I believe he has stopped drinking, however according to my friends and family in the area (Kiln, MS is about 15 minutes from Slidell), he's still a jerk, just not a drunk one.

Again, great athletes are not always great people: Ty Cobb anyone?

C'mon Mike let's hear the story!

OK, here is my Jerry Rice story. I was sitting in this bathtub in a San Francisco bathhouse.....just kidding. :D

1993...Honolulu, Hawaii. Friday night around 11PM before the Pro Bowl. I am in a place called Scruples with several friends, and the place is packed to the rafters. Standing room only. About seven of us are crammed around a table slamming flaming Dr. Peppers and dancing on and off.

In walks Jerry Rice with a couple buddies, and several skeezers. His group is larger than ours. He sends his boys over to let us know we need to move since Jerry Rice is here. Being the biggest guy in our group, and NFL lineman in size, I stand up and let these fella's know that our group isn't ready to go home. That works for about 30 seconds. As they walk away, the skeezers roll over to let us know we are second class citizens and that Jerry Rice could buy the whole place if he wanted to, and make us leave. I let them know that as soon as our group is ready to leave, I will let them know and they can have the table. At this point, Jerry comes over with his boys in tow. He isn't drunk or anything. He asks me what it is going to take to make us move, he offers to sign some napkins, or something. Most of those with me are not sure who he is. I decline the offer. Not because I am being obstinant, just because our group was having a good time, and not ready to leave. Then, Jerry busts out the typical famous person line..."Do you know who I am? I'm Jerry Rice. I can buy this place, and kick you out if I want to." I tell him I know who he is, and that I respect him as a football player, but at this moment, not as a person. He calls me a couple names, and walks away. About 10 minutes later, a couple bouncers and the manager come over to tell us we have to move to make room for a VIP guest. We all decide to leave.

But....the story ends well. As we are leaving, Jerry meets me at the front door, and hands me two tickets to the game. When he signed with Seattle last year, I went to a game and had a chance to talk to him. I reminded him about this story, and he just laughed and said that he really was full of himself back in those days.

Your turn Gard. I can tell a few more about other athletes if you want to go back and forth on a few more.

...I notice you didn't argue with my prediction...smart...

:D

I was nice, I could have predicted how many interceptions and fumbles Daunte (he's your home team QB, you should learn to spell his name correctly! ;) ) be responsible for next week...

...oh, and for the record, I've hated the Viqueens since the 70's, and being in a band with a guitarist that bled purple just reinforced it...

:spit:

...we will pay you back for the playoff ignominy you have caused us, starting this coming weekend.

:bassist:

Pay us back? Ha! We don't need help for that. I'm still bitter about the '98 season when the Queens lost against the Atlanta Falcons 30-27.

I'm so stoked: Bucs are 2-0, have yet to allow a TD on defense, and are headed to Lambeau to Lambast a hapless Packer team.

Coupled with upcoming games against the Lions, Jets, Dolphins, and 49ers, i'm praying for......

7-0. Its do-able.

Lions are the weak sisters, i don't see much of a threat there.

The Jets aren't the same team as the last few years, IMO, with Abraham missing all of training camp and preseason, Donnie Abraham retired, Curtis Martin banged up, and Pennington getting no zip on the ball. Pen to Coles is always a threat, but....

The Dolphins have surprised me on D, as i thought there'd be some drop off. I am happy to say that Ronnie Brown hasn't proved to be quite the pick that Caddy seems to be, and that qb one-two punch wouldn't frighten most high school teams. Jason Taylor looks to have a good season, but one smallish linemen doesn't worry me too much.

The 49ers aren't going anywhere. We don't need to discuss them.

The projected weakest point on our team has been pushing people around for the last two weeks like they were taking somebody's lunch money, our anemic running game is 2nd the in league, Griese's taken one sack, the D is #1 and firing on all cylindersl, nobody's been able to run on us (and that's two decent rushing teams: bills and vikes.)

I want a Bucs v Colts super bowl.
