Seriously, Coles looked like he had a shot (there may have been a couple of guys deep that we couldn't see from the camera angle)... it was amazing that it went on that long....

Jauron seems to be getting the job done... the secondary looks really tight with the two rookies at safety (Whitner and Ko Simpson)... you would know better than I, Jive, but what I heard around town is that Bears GM Jerry Angelo basically retooled the team after the 2001 13-3 season to get rid of Jauron. That may just be sour grapes after heading back to the cellar the next year, but there's no doubt that Jauron's a smart guy.

Yeah, there are just so few good commentators out there... whoever was calling the Bills-Vikings game was decent... but the Jets-Colts game had Gumbel and, ugh, Dierdorf. He's been an earsore since his MNF days, about as much personality as a rug and as interesting as a house plant. Sometimes, you can see these guys getting thrown for a loop when the game that's being played in front of them isn't matching up with the stock quotes that they've piled up from scouting reports. Even though he's kinda buffonish and he's says some remarkably stupid things, you can see how Madden's been around for so long, he really pays attention to the game as it's being played in front of him...

I was pissed at what the front office did to Jauron. After a 13-3 record, they made personnel changes so that Jauron wouldn't have the personnel to run his D. He needed a couple of big buddhas at the DT position, and DeAngelo traded away Ted Washington for a 4th round pick while he was still productive. The Colvin and Parrish were big parts of that D, and they were let go for basically nothing. Michael Haynes was not used effectively. He was meant to be a contain person instead of an pure edge rusher, but DeAngelo didn't see it that way. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did with the Bears.

The biggest fault of Jauron was his commitment to Shoop as OC. He was horrible, being way too conservative, and never opening things up. If he had fired him and put in a real OC, he might have had a shot.

Jauron is a much better coach than folks give him credit for. I'd love to see him implement his system in BUF and make them a contender.

The pick by Brees really hurt, but the catch by Colston was great. This kid is huge but fast. I can't believe this kid lasted til the 7th round. He might not have had the 40 time, but for his size he has incredible game speed.

I really thought the Saints could take this game, but we saw the limits of their secondary. Bush has got to learn to not go backwards. This is the NFL, you can't do those college cuts anymore. Besides that, having a "home" and a real QB is really improving them quickly.

Well, it happens, if they'd played their "A" game for 60 minutes, they would be 4-0. However, 3-1 and 1st in their division is more than I'd ever dreamed possible, so I'm still smiling today.

Colston is huge man, just huge - both physically and emotionally/psychologically. I was really unhappy when I saw they traded Stallworth to the Iggles, but now, who cares? Colston is already doing more for the team than Stallworth ever did. You're right about his "game speed", y'all see him just DUST the Panthers secondary on that 86 yard TD? No little DB will arm tackle this dude, and if you DON'T wrap him up, he's gonna take you to school, everytime.

You're right about their secondary, you put a couple good recievers on the field, and they have trouble.

Reggie will "get it" eventually, and when he does...oh boy...especially if Duce stays healthy.

The Saints appear to have the offense well in hand, and they're pretty solid on the defensive front and linebackers, we just need to get a couple real solid cover corners and we'll be "there".

They'll manage to at best stay #2, probably #3, because the Panthers are a better overall team, and will show it as the season goes on. The Saints are more balanced as well, even with the loss in Charlotte this weekend.

Falcons are 1st in the division and 2nd in the NFC.

Panthers are 3rd in the division and 10th in the NFC.

I fully expect my beloved Packers to take a major ass kicking tonight. For some reason, McNabb just OWNS the Packers, especially in Philly (although by some scheduling quirk, the Eagles NEVER play in Green Bay). The way Philly is passing right now, and the way the Packers seconday can't cover my 7 year old son right now, ads up to disaster. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

The whole McNabb thing reminds me of the Packers/Bears, where for a period of 10 or so years, Brett Favre completely OWNED the Bears.

The New Orleans Saints are 1st in the NFC South, and 2nd in the NFC. The Falcons share the same record, 3-1, but have lost head-to-head against the Saints, therefore are BEHIND them.

...get used to seeing it, everyone has figured out that if you dog Vick, the Falcons become turkeys.

I believe that the postseason is the only relevant thing... you can keep your passing records, rushing titles, defensive rankings, nearly undefeated seasons, lifetime win-loss records... they don't mean much without a NFL Championship (or twelve).

But head-to-head is the first tie breaker to determine who makes it to the playoffs... for some reason, Jazzin' notes that the NFL doesn't have the standings ranked that way right now. I don't know why they bother to rank it any other way (unless they don't sort out tie breakers and just list them alphabetically) but it doesn't take anything away from "if the season ended today" the Saints would be the NFC South Division champs... ("folks, I give you your Week 4 NFC South Division champions!" roar of the crowd, etc. etc.) So the NFL rankings at this point in the season is only slightly more pointless than this argument. :D

Anyone else surprised by the the Patriots going to Cincy and blowing their doors off? That game, and Miami losing were the surprises for me this week.

As further proof that the Seahawks have it easy in the NFC West, the Chiefs hung 41 on the 49ers, and St. Louis gave up 34 to the Lions.
