I didn't see the whole game but at one point in the third the wings were up by two (6-4). I'm impressed to see them tie it up and ultimately get the win even though they did give the wings a point. Definitely a reason to be excited.

Looks like we'll be facing off in Pittsburgh on Thursday. Should be an interesting match up.

The Flyers/Isles Game today was at 11:00 am our time. Unfortunately I had to miss it due to work. I watched the highlights though and Briere had a pretty goal from the top of the circle and Gagne and Richards team up to get a shorthanded goal which they are tied for 1st with 6 on the year. Gagne got a shot of and Richards cleaned up the garbage. Timmo's empty netter was a nice one from his end of the red line, but it's a little hard to get excited about those (EN).

Biron stopped 35 shots and only let one by him. Now is the time for him to get on a streak. We really need some more confidence in our goalies and defense. Biron's saves that I did see,....he is doing an okay job directing rebounds in the safer areas, but he still needs to start hanging onto the puck a little better.

Flyers snap a 3 game losing streak and the Pens pull off an awesome comeback. Thursday ought to be an interesting game.

We were down 6-4 without about four minutes to play in the third period. We were down by three goals a couple times too. It was exciting hockey for sure. We pulled our goalie with two minutes left.

Yes, we do have a matchup with youn'z on Thursday in the Igloo. It will be another good test for us. I did notice you got the win today. I also had to work so I did not see it, but did catch the highlights. The Flyers look good.

So what is this I hear that you guys may be signing Shanahan? I remember him being pretty good, but I think he is about 40 now, maybe 39. I wonder if he has anything left. What do you think about him going to the Flyers?

There was some scuttlebutt on the Flyer's website. I haven't been to the message boards in a while so I can't confirm how true it is. Paul Holmgren and Shanny had a meeting where they discussed possible interest. They are "waiting on Shanahan to make a decision" (not verbatim). Honestly Shanahan is probably looking for one last club to play for before he hangs up his skates. He was a Red Wing as long as I could remember then went to the Rangers (another original six) and could possibly play for Philly who was part of the first expansion. That's three pretty big hockey towns he could be a part of.

Pens played well, and from what I saw of the last bit they for the most part deserved the win. I only saw the last bit (Staal's dominance) - he played well, and I've got to give him props, even with the skate on skate trip on the final takeaway ;) :rollno: The Pens would be wise to lock Staal up for a long time as he's easily overlooked with the tendency to focus on Sid and Geno.

The penalty call on Rafalski at the end of regulation was weak as well, imho - the guy jumped and landed with his feet on either side of the stick as Raffi was going for the puck. Still, I can live with it, though the no call on Zetterberg being hauled down in OT after that was egregious.

I despise the VS coverage - Jonesy and Olczyk and to a lesser extent Engblom annoy the hell out of me, but I"m not going to get into it here.

The Pens are definitely in better shape than I expected after the offseason. I need to watch the highlights on TSN to make a better analysis of the game since I only saw the last half of the 3rd period and OT due to county chorus.

Yeah, I've said it before. If the Flyers go to a shootout, you might as well chalk up an O.T. Loss. But I was really thinking they'd pull it off tonight after Biron stopped the big guns (Crosby, Malkin, et.al.) But nobody on the Flyers could put one in. They really should have walked out of there with 2 points tonight, but found a way to blow it.

I only saw the shootout due to watching the Wings game, but it was pretty bad. It seemed to me that none of the Flyers really had a plan against Sabourin except for the one that he was miraculously able to dive back and grab - you have to give the goalie props for that. But what was up with Hartnell? - the last Flyer, it seemed like he just tried to jump over the goalie and the goalie caught him midair for a double leg takedown.

2 shorties? You've gotta love that when your team pulls it off. It's a shame they couldn't capitalize. I've got a feeling the Pens are going to be working the point men hard the next couple of practices.

That was odd, wasn't it? It looked like he didn't really care if made the goal or not. Oh well, I'll take it. I was out for the evening, and trying to find someone showing an NHL game on TV around here is nearly impossible. No restaurants, no sports bars, not even among the 900+ TV's blaring away at places like Best Buy. I'm not going to bother going back to watch a replay this early in the season.

I'm proud of my guys to hang in there and keep fighting. Philly looked real impressive to me in the comeback, and those shorthanded goals were great to watch.

Anyone else see that Melrose was fired today after 16 games? Now it's Tocchets job: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. I guess we'll see Barry back on ESPN this weekend sometime. :)

Yeah. I think Hartnell is losing heart this season. I'm not sure what his deal is. He was benched for the 3rd period when Philly beat the Isles on Veterens Day. Stevens just wasn't happy with his play.

I think he realizes that Stevens works on a reward system. You preform and you get ice time, you don't you get benched. I'm not so sure he'll remain with the Flyers in the coming weeks; especially if Shanahan looks to ink a deal for the remainder of the season.

Other Flyers that might get the ax in that possible Shanny deal are Lupul; who is on a cold streak, and Upshall; who can't seem to stay upright out there. Personally I rather see Upshall go if Harts can get his **** together. Lupul is a solid forward who just needs to snap out of this cold streak. Upshall is a bit of a diver and I can't count how many times he has fallen/lost balance on his own. Every time he touches the puck I'm shouting at the TV for him to stay on his feet. Some games he looks good, but most games it just unbearable to watch. As for Hartnell....He fits the Flyers mold; gritty and intense, but he may not be taking this team's struggles too well. I'm also not sure how well Grit and intensity fit in the "new" NHL. It seems to be more about speed and finesse these days. I guess the jury is still out on that for the moment.

Ho Hum...It's off to Montreal...a really tough building. I hope they win but I'm not holding my breath. At least I won't have to listen to Habs fans booing Briere (who is out with a different injury; groin pull only a few days).

IDK. Seems like this entire young season I've been waiting for this team to show up. It's still early. You never know; as players start coming back healthy and start getting on streaks, they could turn it around.

Melrose is gone huh. I didn't see that; but I'm not surprised. He should be behind a TV camera with his mullet rather than behind a bench. I'm curious, I know he has played before, is this his first coaching job? Call me ignorant. I could always go wiki it.

Edit: Gagne's Two Shorthanded goals sure did put a smile on my face. Has anyone ever scored a shorthanded hat trick?

Flyers better watch their ***** on the PK though. Sometimes being so aggressive on the PK can bite you in the ***

man, im gonna go out and say this, i hate Habs fans
yeah, i hate my own teams fans

such lame people man
me and my friends (3 of the 8 being bruins fans) to this restaurant to watch the game the other night.
obviously, the bruins had complete control over the game right from the start
and before the halfway mark of the first period we were getting popcorn and bits on napkin and other stuff thrown at us from a specific table

we ignored them, at first thinking it was just in good fun
but as the night went on (and the bruins kept scoring) theyre remarks got more and more violent and less "joke like" and starting really pissing us off

but still, we were being the bigger people in the situation and not doing anything
again, insults got more personal, etc etc but we kept our mouths shut

game ends, and they get up to go pay, were getting our jackets and about to walk out, and from the OTHER END of the room, they start chanting "F*** BOSTON!!" over and over again

so we just laughed and walked out
so were now standing outside waiting while a couple of other friends are waiting for their rides, and theyre standing not too far away and continue to chant and cat call at us.

so my friend (6'2" built irish guy- hence being a bruin fan) finally snaps and tells them to shut up and grow up and act their age, that its just a game and it didnt matter who goes for who.

they dont like this and they make random, pointless, meaningless comments about how boston is the worst team in the NHL, so someone says then why are they in the top 5 and Montreal isnt?

agian, more stupid comments that have nothing to do with anything
so, my friend just counts out to them slowly on his fingers in his best attempt at french; Un, Deux, Trois, Quatre, Cinq, Six. SIX BUTS CONTRE UN.

so now theyre right pissed, and they starting calling us pussies and the like
and my friend snaps for real and calls them a bunch of flaming... (yeah) and tells them to shut up

so now, they think its a challenge, but they never step up to the plate
they slowly back up and continue cat calling at us in french so that we dont understand it
so my ex who is perfectly billingual decides to lay it out for them
and they just laugh and continue to back away from us, while getting on their phones and telling their friends about a bunch of pussy Bruins fans. Again, only 3/8 of us were Bruins fans.

They proceeded to follow us to our cars from a safe 15 foot distance and chant their stupid chant. So we all drove away smiling and waving at them.

I wanted so bad to knock them out... sooo bad

I now completely understand why Habs fans get the living s*** kicked out of them when they go to Boston to watch games.

WooHoo!!! The Pens come flying back in the third and win again, this time sporting our powder blue jerseys. I totally want one of those jerseys by the way. This team is coming together fast. I'm getting excited. Six straight wins!!!

Staal goes out and slams home two more, yeah I know one was an EN. He is turning into a beast on the ice. No one can stop him. Malkin hands out three more assists, and my boy Fedotenko grabs another goal and an assist. How about the rook Goligoski? He picked up a PP goal tonight.

The Montreal Canadiens. And their obnoxious fans. I seriously had a hard time listening to the semi's last year because of the random cheering, booing EVERYTHING the Flyers did (you don't boo for making an outlet pass!) and the almost sing-song feel to all of it. It was like listening to a soccer crowd. Which would've been fine, had there been a soccer game.................

The Bell Centre is a pretty intense building. It seriously has like a European Soccor match feel to it with the Ole chant and the rioting. I wish I could have seen the game last night but I sacrificed that to take the wife out on a date. I'll prolly miss this afternoon's game (tonight on your side of the country) because of rehearsal. Nitty Starts and the Thrashers make a valiant effort, but Philly triumphs......Again

Check Out Zigomanis' Faceoff stat. It's like 63%....Impressive. Faceoffs are relatively overlooked but one of those little things that are really important.

Montreal (and Canadian fans in general) are always rabid. (sorry to bring mma into this but) GSP vs. Serra II broke all existing north american attendance records for MMA with 22,000+ people booing Serra at once :D.

Shame about the loss last night, but I was really happy to see Vancouver take apart Toronto. Some really nice goals and GREAT fights.

i dont call the people who rioted and destroyed our city real Habs fans, hockey fans or even sports fans for that matter.

Just a bunch of hooligans with no respect.
Unfortunately though the majority of people that go to the games and watch the games are those.

It sucks, because we come from a great city, and we have a great team, and neither deserve the rep they're getting because of stupid pseudo-fans.

It's pretty pathetic if you ask me. It's hard to enjoy games when your entire stadium just boos when the other team has the puck. It takes all the fun out of it.

What happened to sportsmanship? I agree that there is a certain amount of friendly rivalry and such, but more often than not, the line is crossed.

Who leaves the arena before the end of the game, just because your home team is loosing? What kind of supporter do you call yourself if you cant be there for your team, win or loose?

Pathetic. Id love to go see games at the Bell Center, but this is the main reason why i wouldnt go. All of the hooligans steal the tickets from the sane spectators who just want to enjoy a good hockey game.
