I went there, but did not see anyting big enough for me.

If you guys are cool with pretty good knock-offs, try a site like DHGate.com. It is a website kind of like eBay, with all Chinese and Asian sellers. It's the cheap knock off jerseys they sell, but the average fan can't tell the difference from what the players are wearing on the ice. They sell other stuff too.

I'm too much of a jersey snob to buy anything from them. But this would be the place I would go for a cheap jersey as a gift to someone.

Hey hockey guys......do you like Scott Burnside from ESPN? He released his quarterly season report cards today.

My Pens got an A-, which is higher than I thought. He says we are the most exicting team in the NHL. I dunno about that, there is something to be said for the offensive firepower the Wings can roll out on the ice on their first and second lines.

Toronto Maple Leafs: D-plus
Say this for the Leafs, they never quit. A new, younger lineup has produced a different style of hockey on the ice under new coach Ron Wilson. Too often, though, the results are the same, and that means not enough victories. The normally reliable Vesa Toskala has been too ordinary too often for the Leafs to think playoffs and it is a rare night they don't fall behind by a couple of goals early on.

Can't really argue with that assessment, though since they were expected to be cellar dwellers (though some would rather the Leafs tank for Tavares or Hedman), I'll give them a C-minus.

what they say about canucks is pretty accurate. he gave them a B and pretty much said we're lucky to be getting some goals by people who are not the sedins. otherwise we would have to pray that luongo is playing his brains out every game. ahhhh what a great trade that was :)

Thanks for the reminder. I got a buddy in Toronto who is always telling me to quit using ESPN.com for my hockey news. He reminds me about TSN. I believe ESPN owns TSN anyway though, right? The logo's look real similar.

Isn't there another hockey website to go to? hockeynews.com or something like that?

TSN sucks! There is SOOOOOO much eastern bias it's not even funny. But if you're not from the west you probably wouldn't notice it too much. I like www.sportsnet.ca

HMMMM. I just use google if something of interest comes up. I rarely check on media coverage or columns. I tend to look at stats and go to team websites to make my own analysis. I found that article somewhat interesting. Seems like Burnside didn't want to hurt any feelings by giving any team an F *cough*cough* Florida *cough*.

I liked what he had to say about Vancouver. I sort of consider the Canucks the hometown team of Seattle since there is no hockey team there. I think that Calgary and Edmonton are closer to Spokane, but for some reason I'm starting to become a Canucks Fan. They seem to be feeling no ill affects from the loss of Naslund to free agency which Burnside didn't mention. I hope they make the playoffs.

He had some dull things to say about The Flyers. Briere's Injury woes? I've said it before, Danny Briere is a goal scorer and I like him, but he doesn't fit the Flyer mold. The loss of Briere is hardly detrimental. I'd like for him to play and contribute especially on the PP. But in his absence; Carter and Gagne are tearing it up in the goal column. Richards is contributing in the assists column as well. Carter is on pace to have a career year and Gagne is looking to make a run at 40 + goals coming off injury last season. There was a lot made of a Briere/Gagne duo, but the line of Knuble/Gagne/Richards seems to be jelling quite well. The Briere/Gagne duo has yet to work out because of Gagne's injury last year and now Briere's This season. It will interesting to see what they do when Briere gets healthy again.

Goaltending woes?....no **** Dick Tracy, where did you leave your squad car? That's pretty much the last issue we need to get worked out, and this team will start to turn it around.

After a dismal start they manage to work their way to 2 games above .500; it's a start and the season is young. As teams start getting on losing streaks, the Flyers will start going on winning streaks and make a run at the top teams in the east.

Flyers worked hard last night against Buffulo who is looking to end a victory drought. Buffulo made some great defensive plays but the bounces were going the Flyers way last night. There were also a lot of missed chances, rubber contacting iron, and choked empty netters on the part of the Sabres last night. Not to diminish Biron's play; which was really strong; which hopefully he can keep it up.

Props to the D as well. My boy Sbisa (18 year old rookie defense) was a stud last night. He took some hits like they were nothing and I love how well he moves the puck in his own end. He makes even the most savvy forecheckers look like chumps. Trading for Matt Carle looks to be a great move by Homer as he seems to fit real well in the Flyer's defensive schemes. He's really come in and helped strengthened our D who had only one decent pairing with Timmo and Coburn. Now that Sbisa is settling in to the Pro level we just need Jonesy and Parent back and we should be sitting pretty at the blueline.

I'm not to savvy but I think Stevens may have been employing a trap system last night. The D was strong on the Blueline and there always seemed to be a forward clogging up the Neutral Zone. That being said the Sabres had there chances; they got 40 shots, but left with a big goose egg.

Hartnell opened the scoring from out of the sin bin; behind Sabres D, he connected a Gagne Pass. He charged in all alone on Miller; made a move that got Miller to commit, and lifted the puck over Millers leg pad. Carter's first goal of the night was a beaut. Wrist shot from the top of the circle between two defenders. He added an empty netter to continue to be on top of the team in goal scoring at 13.

Sabres thought they got one, but on further review the puck never even got close to the goal line.

I have a question concerning plus/minus. My understanding is that powerplay goals do not count against your +/- . If you score a shorthanded goal does; does that count towards +/- ?

With that out of the way Gotta at least give props to the Flyers bustin one out in OT against Gretzky and the Coyotes this evening. The Captain Mike Richards nets the game winner in a very exciting affair. :hyper:

Flyers improve to 3 games over .500 @ 9-6-4. They are 5-0-1 over the last 6 games and with that win they move into the top 8.

The frustrations of the early season are starting to give way.

This is one of those cases that the Flyers could afford to give up a point as the team they were playing is in the other conference. :D

A very entertaining game for sure.

Edit: Just wanted to mention that Jeff Carter finds himself 2nd in the league in goals with 14 Simon Gagne is (tied) 5th in the league in points with 25. :D I'm liking these stats!!!

Hrm - SJ is 4 points up on Detroit, but Detroit has 2 games in hand. It's a long season. At this point, imho, the WCF between SJ and Detroit would be the real cup final. Montreal and Pitt would be the likely contenders in the East with the Flyers playing spoiler.

I'm in Eastern PA so I honestly didn't notice the bias, but tbh I'd rather see a regional bias than a stupidity bias, though the argument likely could be made that in the case of a pro-Maple Leaf bias they'd be one and the same ;)

I'll check out sportsnet. Thanks for the lead. As far as thn, I have it bookmarked but stopped subscribing about 7 years ago. Some decent stuff in it, but I miss Elston's cartoons (I haven't read a print copy in years so I don't know if they ever brought him back or not)

But we did lose luongo and he's probably out for a couple months...which is more of a bummer. luckily dave nonis refused to trade schneider last season and hopefully he'll live up to expectations

Boston's been doing pretty good too though, especially for the non superstar team that they have. So if they continue playing the way they have been they have a fair shot.

Sportsnet is split up into four different regions, pacific, west, ontario and east, so its focus is on the region. but it's more focused on canadian teams, so I don't know how well that would work out for you. They still have a more than decent coverage on everything that happens around the league though, at least on tv they do. And it's not biased, just more focused.

Another site to check out is www.thescore.com , while it's not the best site to read up on hockey, cabbie on the street and cabbie unlimited are hilarious


While I'm throwing out websites, might as well add this one too. It's a basically how much each player is on the team, how long they're signed for and whether they'll be ufa/rfa afterwards and how much cap space is still available. this will come especially handy come trade deadline and off season, but im getting way ahead of myself :) nhlnumbers.com

Ah Flyers....Going on a tear as teams like Buffalo and the Caps start loosing. They held out Dallas (last in the WC). They had to kill off a minute long penalty at the end of the game (which is basically a two man advantage with the GT pulled). Knuble gets 2 and Carter ties Vanek for first in the league in goals. Gotta Love It.

I gotta say the only thing this game was missing was a Flyer Knuckle to Avery's noggin :D.
