NHL 2008

Yeah, yeah. I've tried my best to be nice and respectful about your Flyers all season, and this is what I get? That's cool then. Your team isn't going to win anything worth bragging about either.

Edit....you'll be back to delete that post after we squeak into the playoffs and send you guys home....again. :D

Not until they get their goal-tending sorted out. I like Biron, but there was a reason he was the Backup in Buffalo. Nitty is going to give him a run for his money, but still both are backups at best :rollno:.

EDIT: It's not that I don't want the Penguins to make the playoffs, I just don't want Cindy Crosby to make the playoffs.

BTW what does the Pens salary cap look like?

The Sharks played a good game yesterday to fend off the Bruins. The Wings/Sharks WCF is going to be one for the ages if things keep going the way they have been.

Pens fans booing Hossa? Very classless, imho, and seeing Hossa burn Staal for a goal was sweet. A bit of payback for Staal's herculean effort in the earlier meeting. The comments I was seeing on LetsGoPens after the loss were comedy gold about how the wings "constantly cheat". About the only intelligence I saw was the creative handle "don'tToewsmebro".

As far as the Pens salary cap, I think Sid's "hometown discount" is a joke compared to what the Wings have pulled off, and the fact that Sid didn't get a shot off until late in the 3rd was very telling. Pavs and Hank are the best all-around duo in the game when they play together, and hopefully they'll get the props they deserve soon from the league.

With the Wings on a bit of a tear, despite the injuries, it's going to be interesting to see how the west shakes out come playoffs time.

Re: Philly's goaltending, warwick.hoy is nailing it on the head.

Re: not wanting Sid to make the playoffs - I can agree with it, but only because he's so overhyped. Malkin is better than he is, and Ovechkin is better than either of them. I bear no ill will towards the Pens as a franchise. Towards a lot of their fans who are morons about hockey, it's a different story (I live near their minor league team, so I hear it from them quite a bit). MJ5150 is a great guy to talk hockey with, as are most of those who come into this thread. Let's keep the hockey talk classy.

As far as individual forwards, I'd have to say Ovechkin is best overall, then Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Malkin, then Crosby of those mentioned. Ovy has more of a physical dimension than anyone else on that short list, though Pavs isn't afraid to hit (but he's not as big as Ovy). Offensively, Ovy is the best goal scorer, followed by Pavs and Malkin. Setup-man I'd say Pavs and Crosby are the best, followed by Zetterberg, than Malkin, than Ovy (most of his "assists" are rebounds from his shots, so I don't look at him as a set-up guy in the traditional sense). Defensively, Pavs and Z are the top 2 hands down. Period.

I'm sure kserg can weigh in on where Thornton fits. I haven't seen enough of him recently to make a fair comparison.

I'll pass on the Bruins sweater, though I will give props for an Original Six franchise. I'll stick to my home Konstantinov (75th NHL anniversary), away Fedorov, or heritage barbershop pole style sweaters for now :) Once I get the tax refund, I'll be getting a Zetterberg Winter Classic jersey (and probably one for my daughter as well)

I think Zetterberg is the best player in the NHL, and Malkin is right there with him. There is a guy on the Sharks who has kind of an Asian sounding name, and he is real good. I have seen him play a few times. Despite the hype, Crosby is real good too.

I've seen Ovechkin play, and he is definitely an awesome player. I'll take him on my time over someone like Hal Gill. :)

Pen's fans aren't ********, just mad that one of their hero's from last year scorned them. Leaving was bad enough, but to the team that smoked us in the Cup Finals really hurt. He got some cheers as well, so it isn't like the whole place booed him relentlessly all night.

Pittsburgh Penguins fans are retards. They boo Marian Hossa?
No wonder the team almost left.
Wow, calm down there, buckaroo.

Players who leave to play for other teams get booed, especially when they leave to play for a team that, oh, I dunno, destroyed them in the cup final. He may have been a tremendous player for them in last years playoffs, but once he puts on a different jersey, he's an enemy again.

Penguins fan are bitter, that is a fair statement, but it happens a lot...

Ovechkin. Eh. Yeah I guess he's ok. Little bit of a showboat though huh? Now Thornton, thats a player a man can be proud to root for.

And no sense crying foul over the booing. Its not like most of these guys give much of a crap where they play anyway. Look to the AHL for proof of that. And yeah, any talent oges where the money is. Its pro sports. The fans don't need to feel any more loyalty toward individual players than the players have toward the individual teams.

Well if Hossa talked smack about the Pens after leaving I wouldn't ask questions. He only played their but a quarter of a season. It's not like anyone in Pittsburgh had any sort of connection to the guy.

How does this apply to Hossa?

Didn't he turn down something like $80 million to play in Detroit?

Hey Serg.....we got the better of you guys tonight in the Igloo. In this basically lost season, this is all I got left to cheer about. We missed the playoffs, but we won a game in Detroit and beat the mighty Sharks when they came to town. :D

True, I didn't watch the game (was at the gym and they didn't show it there, ended up watching Duke UNC game).

How was the game, we got a point out of it anyway, not bad for playing back to back games on the road. :)

Plus, no Nabokov - i didn't expect a win. :)
