NHL 2013 post season thread!

I think Boston will have a lot fewer "Juicy Rebounds" off Henrik Lundqvist than Reimer so they better learn how to score again in "normal game conditions". Toronto will be back next year and will be a team to reckon with I think. Good season for the Leafs.

I was shocked to see what happened in Washington, however I don't feel bad for Ovechkin. Kudos Rangers.

LOL. On another forum, a Boston fan said Lupul should have been given a penalty when Chara shoved him into the net and then he got punched with the blocker by Rask. The general internet consensus is that the officiating was horribly in Boston's favor, but that the Leafs lost because of their 3rd period melt down. Don't know why Boston people can't just admit that. Their team won and deserved to, the refs were just bad.

I wasn't aware of this rule, but just stumbled across it: 51.3 Match Penalty - If, in the judgment of the Referee, a goalkeeper uses his blocking glove to punch an opponent in the head or face in an attempt to or to deliberately injure an opponent, a match penalty must be assessed.

Technically, Rask should have been ejected from the game last night.

Marchand throwing the water bottle on the ice before the face off. Shouldn't that have been a penalty?

-Mike

He did it to get the attention of the refs because some confetti had landed on the ice which would have been a hazard.

I'll buy Lazarus' take on the penalties - the Kelly elbow was pretty clear - so that was a break in the B's favor. The refs let a bunch of stuff go early on both sides so the line between what was OK and what was too much became blurry. I guess in the ref's opinion, Rask's intent was not to injure but to get the Leaf out of his net and make it clear that Leafs (and their shots) are not welcome in his net. ;)

As it was, Boston was penalized 50% more than Toronto and Toronto did score on a power play to get them back to 1-1. As it was, Toronto had a 4-1 lead with less than 11 minutes to play.

Rangers-Bruins will be a physical contest. The B's tend to do better with slower physical teams than with faster and still pretty physical teams like Toronto and Pittsburg.

I wasn't necessarily arguing Rask should have been given a match penalty. I think that would have been a horrible move, especially since as far as Rask knew, Lupul dove on top of him for no reason. Just thought the rule was curious as I was unaware of it.

Rangers Bruins is going to be awesome. I plan on trying to watch every game of that series, which I think will go 7 games.

Do you really believe what you just typed here?

-Mike

Yes - that is what the B's announcers reported and I have no reason to doubt them. Was it reported differently elsewhere? I can be gullible at times, but that seemed like a reasonable explanation of what happened. Had it been some sort of bad thing to do, I suspect that the Leafs would have brought that to the refs attention.

You're usually on the money, but you're WAY off the mark, here. Don't rely on Edwards. He's mouthed off countless examples of straight-out lies to suit his over-the-top homerism.

What actually happened was that Julien was yelling "Horton!" and he couldn't hear because the building was so loud. Even Thornton was yelling "Horton!" but to no avail. So, what does Marchand do to stop play and make sure Horton hears Claude? He throws the water bottle on the ice.

That's what supposedly happened. Doesn't make it OK and certainly doesn't change the end result, but that should've been a penalty, along with a lot of other things they got away with. Props for scoring those 4 unanswered goals, but the punching, deliberate elbowing, and slew foots that weren't called... that isn't hockey to me.

It is a interesting rule - I doubt it gets called very often but it may have been put in there after some particularly egegious violation. It isn't much of an excuse, but I think Rask's assumption of how Lupul got there was why the refs swallowed their whistles.

Maybe part of the playoff experience of the B's was knowing how far you can push the limits in a Game 7. The Leafs will be better prepared next year. I still want to see a Toronto-Montreal playoff series as long as it is the first round or second (only if the B's are in the other series). :D

I see, it is the hockey equivalent of "we gave the dog to a farmer or hunter where he'll be happier."

This may not have gotten play outside of Toronto and Boston.

There was a short Boston Globe story about the restaurant that stayed open past closing time and fed the B's after the plane couldn't take off. Very positive comments from the B's players and it was clearly much appreciated. I didn't realize that the B's reciprocated with tix for 4 of the staffers who stayed late. Nice story all around.

Stars fired their coach after 2 years of failing to qualify for the Playoffs.

Not surprising considering the star-filled roster he had to play with, but annoying nevertheless considering the fact that GM Niedermeyer made bonehead moves on a regular basis, the most recent of which sent Ryder to the Habs for Cole who was an overpaid passionless so-called athlete. He got fleeced and consequently fired for these moves.

Now the coach is paying the toll for his ex-boss' mess too.
