NHL Regular Season 2017-18

You and I think quite alike. Gotta put Richard in their somewhere, but yes, Beliveau is IMO the greatest of Les Habitants. Heck, he was revered as Canada's greatest citizen!
yeah, and I hold all things Hab in about the same esteem as all things Bruin. But while I would love

to, can't quite put Sittler (IMHO the best Leaf) quite at that level....maybe Auston some day

They won the cup both of the last 2 seasons and you think they're pretenders. ridiculous

I keep giving him hell for that, lol

Pens' state is this, if Murray can settle in (only stopped 36 of 38 shots half way through the 3rd tonight as I post this... not too shabby) then they are golden, Crosby has the most goals in the last month, and I believe Malkin and kessel are in the top 5 in that period.
Murray has a new focus, hockey will be his escape from the awful personal thing he has been through, this could turn around his year and pull them down the stretch, the whole team is fighting for him.

And I guess it's easy for a fan of a long time losing team to criticize, but to even be 30 games from the end of the season, and be sitting in a playoff spot, and bitch?!?!? Nope, you're just jaded. It'll always be tough, and the chance of winning the Cup, even as the best team in the league (I'm talking to you, Caps) is slim.

Look at it this way, right now, the Leafs are 15 points ahead of the nearest team in the division. With 31 games left... it's almost logistically impossible for us to NOT make they playoffs... Almost.. And I haven't felt that in decades. I worry still, and cringe at bad losses, but always have faith.
The playoffs are a new season, anything can happen once you're in.

Enjoy the race.

Oh well...all-star break hangover for the Bruins sunk them in the 1st period. They weren't ready to play and without Marchand and McEvoy, that 2-0 hole buried them, along with Gibson in net for Anaheim, who made some great stops. One of those nights. It was a nice run for the B's, though. Another tough test coming with the Blues.

The past is the past.
What have the Pens done this season to make you believe they will win another SC?

-Mike

After a lousy first half of the season they went from the bottom of the metro to 2nd place and a spot in the playoffs. You saw what they did this past month. Kessel, Crosby and Malkin are all up there in points & goals. You have no faith in them? After seeing what they've done the past 2 years? What team wouldnt give their left nut to have them? (Well, maybe the Leafs:cool:).
Murray barely played this past month, he obviously had a lot to deal with, maybe that has been weighing on him this whole season. He's shown what he can do in the playoffs. Jarry & DeSmith look very dependable.
This team has played more games than any other team in the past 2 seasons and that may catch up with them still. It certainly seemed like it did in the first half. But it looks like they are starting to heat up now and if they get into the "thrill of the chase" again, watch out.
Seeing them as "pretenders" makes no sense.

Leafs were on fire tonight!
50 shots on net, first nhl goals by two call up defenseman, shutout by Freddie.
Bab's lines looked good finally, and praying that as these young d-guys have shown some talent, that he'll healthy scratch Polak the rest of the year. Polak is consistent, but adds no offense and is slow. When Reilly gets back, it's gonna tough to pick who to send back down.

The Islanders defense looked awful. They could not keep up at all.

After what I watched the first part of the season, this run in January is nice.
I sure would like to see it happen, but I'm not convinced this team will keep it up and claim #3 in a row.
I feel that the next month or so will be deciding for the Pens and other teams in the same position as them. Like Philly, New Jersey, both NY teams, and Columbus in the east. Eight teams like that in the west.

The only reason the Pens are up in the rankings is because they're 1 - 4 games ahead of the others. A single loss can be a 3 or 4 position slide right now.
I stand by what I said before - I think they'll back in a wild card slot and be a pretty early exit from the post season. I'd of course be thrilled with a deep run or #3 in a row, but the inconsistancy and the oft terrible blue line performance won't survive a deep run.

Yeah, that Dermott kid played like a savvy veteran. Bright future ahead. And how awesome was that having all the dads there when you score your first NHL goal? I know a couple of young players who probably didn't sleep much last night!

Wow. They look like they did at the start of the year before Babs made them stop playing offense....I like it!

Yeah, it's like Babs finally listened to what everyone else was saying. I'm sure there was a method to his madness, and maybe the heavy defensive play will do them well come playoff time.

But McIlhenny played great, he needs more starts to save Freddie's gas for the playoffs.

But wow, when the horses are free to run, 16-3 over the last 4 games. Wow!
