Don't misunderstand. I love my country and the words to the anthem but to set that poem to an old English drinking song? Kinda makes ya wonder......
Now,where's that bottle of Jameson?
Actually, it is (currently at least) "In all of us command". Makes perfect sense, right?
I remember seeing some kind of ranking of national anthems that had France followed by Canada, which I am fine with. The guy who sings the Star Spangled Banner at the Black Hawks games nails it with the emphasis on "our flag was still there." That is the whole point of the song, i can't understood why everyone else fades away on it.
The young gal that does the national anthems for the Leafs is fantastic. And I don't think I'm saying that with bias either. That girl can sing!
And Karen Newman who used to do them for the Wings (I think she just recently stopped?) was also fantastic.
She also toured with Kid Rock for a few years as a backup singer.... The more you know.
So we have the Bruins and the Bolts on Sports Net tonight, feed from NESN. Good game, but I have to ask, do the announcers salary count against the Bruins salary cap?
Yeah, I'm assuming they are the Boston
home announcers.
So Boston takes over first place. Hope they stay there, Id rather play Tampa in a series over Boston right now.
Anyone see the bizarre Hawks game tonight?
Chicago's 1st and 2nd string goalies have been injured so they've been trying to get by with 3rd stringer Anton Forsberg. He's been the main goalie with Collin Delia being called up from the minors as emergency backup.
Unfortunately, Forsberg somehow injured himself during the pregame skate so Delia was put in as starter for their home game against the Winnipeg Jets. It was his first NHL game.
League rules require that all teams have a backup goalie dressed and on the bench so the Black Hawks called for amateur goalie from a local mens' league, Scott Foster, whom they had a special contract with for just such an emergency.
The Hawks had a comfortable 6 - 2 lead over the jets going into the 3rd period and Delia was playing well, making some good saves. Then Delia was injured early in the 3rd and had to leave the game. Enter Scott Foster.
Foster, age 36 and a full time accountant, last played competitive hockey at Western Michigan University more than ten years ago.
When he made his first save, the home crowd cheered. By the end of the game, with the final score 6 - 2, Foster had stopped 7 of 7 shots on goal, with the cheers getting louder with each successive save. The rest of the team mobbed him in front of the net while Chicago's famously loud fans roared their approval.
He was decreed the game's #1 star and was interviewed numerous times in the news.

I guess that checks off his entire bucket list. I hope he gets a tape of his play to show his grandkids. I'm just picturing the scene around the water cooler tomorrow-"So,Scott,whadja do last night?"
That is absolutely the best thing in hockey this year... his post game interview was pure gold.
And upon some googling, I find out he is originally from my town, Sarnia Ontario!
It just keeps getting better!
And btw, with the Panthers losing in OT, the Leafs are officially locked into the playoffs! Woot!
I watched the Bolts-Bruins game tonight and as we know, we will playing one of those teams in the first round, and I'm glad the B's are now in first, (first time I've ever said that in my whole life, lol), as that means we would play the Bolts in the first round. I think the Leafs would have a better chance against Tampa, as they are more our style... a fast, offensive team; and with our depth, I think we could roll 4 and be less worried about the matchups without home ice advantage.
And the bruins play a tough, gritty game ( like they have for the last 50 years or so). I'd rather play them after a first round when they're tired out a little more, lol.

Even better, his amateur team had a league game scheduled for later in the evening, which he skipped out of to go suit up for the Hawks.
When the teams arrived at the amateur rink, word had gotten around that Foster was suited up on the Hawks bench, so they monitored the game on a giant screen TV at the facility. When Foster suddenly found himself in goal and playing in a real NHL game, they abandoned their amateur game to watch their friend and cheer him on.
The next time he plays with them he's going to be treated like a minor hero. That has got to be a dream come true.
I read about the time there was a Who concert where Kieth Moon was too wasted to play drums after the 1st set so the band, in frustration, asked the audience if there were any drummers out there who knew their set list and were confident in their ability and wanted to take over on drums for the,rest of the show.
Some guy from a Who cover band volunteered and he actually played the rest of the night. From a video of the show you can hear that he did a really good job. This goalie story reminds me of that..
