I couldn't even watch the third period I was so ticked off and worked up over that scumbag Wilson's dirty hit and subsequent non-call by the stripes, all while he sits there with that poopie-eating grin on his mug. Once Crosby made it 3-2 I left the room. There has been so much behind-the-play stick work and interference by Eller and Smith-Pelly every shift, but never any calls.
At this point I don't even care if they get swept in the third round, as long as they knock the Caps out. C'mon, Pens, kick it up a notch.

Sullivan on Zach Aston-Reese: "We lose a guy to a broken jaw that's going to require surgery and a concussion because of another high hit to the head. At some point we would hope that the league might do something."

I played goalie in men's league hockey so our rules were a bit different. The ref would stop play if a goalie lost their helmet/mask or glove. You don't want to have a slap shot hit an unprotected hand. That would be bad.
You might have noticed that when NHL players lose their stick, they stay on the ice and play without, if they're in their own defensive zone. But when anyone loses a glove, they immediately go to retrieve it or skate off the ice. Getting slashed in a bare hand could be a career ender.
Yeah and if a skater loses his blade, he has to get off. They don’t stop play. The goalie is the same as there is no safety issue.
Interesting Fact: if the goalie looses his stick HE CANNOT GET IT HIMSELF. ANOTHER PLAYER HAS TO GIVE IT BACK TO HIM.
Similarly, if it breaks, he cannot go to the bench and get one, another player has to deliver one to him.
Only part of that is true. Another player must deliver a replacement stick from the bench, but if the goalkeeper loses control of his stick somewhere on the ice he is allowed to retrieve it himself, or another player may retrieve it for him. But the stick must be handed over face to face. The other player isn't permitted to throw or shove the stick toward the goalie.
Regarding the goalie losing his mask - It is very rare for a mask to fall off all by itself. Nearly always it is a result of the goalie being run over by another player. This is not an equipment failure that could plausibly be prevented by proper maintenance of equipment. Violent collisions sometimes cause helmets, masks, gloves and other equipment to be torn off.

Evander Kane's cross-check to the face of Pierre Edouard Bellemare looked even nastier than the Wilson hit. Wasn't a hockey play. The play was over. Kane skated in and first cross-checked him in the arm. No big deal there, but then he gives him a pretty vicious one right in the face. Kane only got a one game suspension.
Three is not enough. If a high stick draws blood and immediately bumps up to four in the box, Wilson deserves the rest of the playoffs out. This stuff could kill someone.
Glad the league finally did something with this POS Wilson. Not only a repeat offender, but let's not forget the other incidents by him that were NOT dealt with. Most recently the cheap hit on the Jackets' Wennberg in Rd 1.
As a Pens fan, even I could possibly give him some benefit of the doubt on the Dumoulin hit, since Dumoulin did pull up when he saw Ovechkin coming at him. Of course, Wilson still could have not aimed for the head, but that one could have gone either way.
I've always thought very highly of Coach Trotz, but these last few days of hearing him defend Wilson are laughable. First, him claiming it was shoulder-to-shoulder, and still saying that after the replay, and then defending Wilson smiling on the bench as Aston-Reese was heading down the runway to the medic's room. Trotz was saying how much Tom cares about his fellow players, and that someone on the bench said something funny about the booing. Yeah, sure, Barry. You sound like a friggin' politician now.
