Jets are playing very tentatively, and Nashville has all the confidence tonight.
i have some nice cheese here to go with this.
However, anyone that actually despises a team needs to take stock of that. It’s nonsensical.
Well, as you know, I've been a Flyers fan since the '70s. They haven't won a Cup since 1975. That's a 43 year (so far) dry spell, and yet I've been a fan that entire time. Kind of like a Cubs fan used to be before they finally overcame THEIR drought. Point is, I'm not a fair-weather fan. But no, I do NOT like the Pens. And you do not like the Flyers. I'd venture to say that I've endured a whole lot more of "Flyers Hate" on here than you've seen "Pens Hate". And I don't hate the Pens. I just don't like them.
I haven't liked Crosby since his early days in the league, whining, diving, and crying to the refs anytime an opposing player so much as touched him. (Meanwhile, he's pretty sneaky with the stick, slashing a lot without getting called for it.) I admit, that he has gotten better about that (the diving and whining) over the years, but too little too late IMO. I DO respect his overall ability though.
But yes, I was glad to see them get knocked out by the Caps. Just like you and other "Flyer Despisers" rejoice every time THEY get knocked out of a series. Nothing personal, Mike. You're a good guy with a good attitude and knowledge of sports as a whole. But admittedly, I left this thread for awhile because I was sick and tired of all the Flyer bashing. But it is what it is, and I DO think they have a decent future and a lot of young talent. Now if they could just find a franchise goalie...
Ain't me whining about losing. I never once predicted the Pens to win the SC this year. I am surprised they got this far.
It is curious to me though, in any sport, the amount of joy people get when another team loses. In some cases it's almost like the person is more happy another team lost than if the team they like won.
I sure hope the Jets get it together and send Nashville home with Pittsburgh tonight though.
That would be interesting to see both SCF teams from last year eliminated in the same night.

Hey now....I have always proclaimed my admiration for Simmonds and Timonen when he played.
I don't mind the Flyers most of the time, but when they play the Pens I do.
But you do have to admit though, the bad run of goalie choices is an easy target to poke fun at. I even poke fun at the Pens GM for his bad decisions, so I am fair about it.
Oh, and I do poke fun at the goofy guys who show up in Flyer jerseys every hockey game I go to it seems.

Oh well, congrats to the Caps on a great win and to the Pens for a helluva almost 3 year run. Now I can root for Fleury & VGK or Chris Kunitz & the Lightning.
Yeah, the Caps definitely earned each of those four wins. It took them a few years, but they finally put together the right mix to beat the Pens in the playoffs.

Wow. I made 1 comment in 1 post saying that I'm glad the Pens have been eliminated and it's as if I ran over their team mascot with a school bus.
Really, I don't hate the Pens and I don't hate any team in any sport. To be candid, I've just seen and heard too much of them and their star player over the past several years and I've had my fill. The hockey news media spends so much time on them that it neglects half the teams in the league, which could use some more balanced coverage. It got to the point where whenever I heard the word "3 peat" I would scream at my TV.
When they come back next season, fresh from not winning a Stanley Cup for a change, I'll wish them well and hope they have a season to be proud of - just like this year.

Really well put. I've never liked the Yankees. They have had some great players over the years who I respect but I don't like the team. Not saying I wish them harm, I just prefer other teams. Same with All sports.
Jeff, I totally respect your well-written post. Yes, there are some Flyer-haters here, but pretty much every other board I frequent has a lot of Penguin-haters, so maybe one reason I post here a lot is that there does seem to be a handful of us Pens fans here. And every one of us are realistically critical of them when necessary, and not the blind fan-boy types.
You have been around the sport a long time, as have I. When I first became enthralled with hockey, it was the mid-70s, and your Flyers were running roughshod over every team in the league. (And the Russians.
) They trounced my Penguins for years until the late 80s, when the Lemieux era kicked in, THEN the Pens started winning a few against your guys. Since then, the Pens have had the upper hand for the most part, and I can't say I don't enjoy that. That's what rivalries are.The Flyers made great strides this season while the Pens went backwards, so who knows...in a few years we may switch perspectives here on this board. Hope not, but you never know when certain windows are gonna close.
FWIW, those halcyon days in the 70s I referred to earlier...believe it or not my favorite player then was none other than Bobby Clarke. I emulated his game when I played during my high school years, and was always impressed with his ability to see the ice like few could in that era. I even read Bernie Parent's book. So, yeah, I 'hate' the team as a rival, but that doesn't mean I don't respect some of their players, past and present.

With Vegas in the hunt, I imagine nearly every other team has someone on that squad. They got D-man Colin Miller and backup goalie Malcom Subban (PK's little brother) directly from the B's and former B, Rielly Smith through the Florida Panthers. The only other former Bruins player of note for any of the other contenders is Blake Wheeler on the Jets and he was traded in 2011.
