NHL Season 2018-19

Well, I feel better after tonight's effort. Sid looked on top of his game, and DeSmith was lights out (until Letang's boneheaded centering pass ruined the shutout). Malkin still wasn't his usual self, but as you alluded to @MJ5150, he'll get it going. Great all around effort at both ends of the ice. Even Jack Johnson played a solid game.

And the Panthers continue to step on their......uh......toes.

So far so good, only 6 - 0, but only 1 period left.
That was brutal. I felt bad for Flyer goalie Cal Pickard. Gave up 4 goals on the 1st 7 Toronto shots (including a Hat Trick by Johnson). If I recall, Johnson had his Hat Trick before the 13 minute mark of the 1st period.

Enter Anthony Stolarz. Flyers 5th goalie already this season. Elliot and Neuvirth just can't stay healthy. I know they have high hopes for young goalie Carter Hart, but he needs more time in the AHL. He's only 20 years old, and hasn't dazzled anybody thus far while playing for Lehigh Valley. I do think he could be a good one if Hextall doesn't rush him out of desperation.

Pens had a solid game against CBJ, after a tough OT loss in Boston. Although the Jackets had a strong 2nd period, DeSmith was stronger. I don't know where Letang's head is lately but he'd better find it fast. Too many brain farts in his own end lately.

Man, I feel bad for the Cats. Up 2-0, and then back up again 4-2, but the 'hawks come back to tie it again with about one second left in regulation. Then Chicago scores the winner in OT. Tough one for even us casual Florida fans.

I watched the Pens-B's and was thrilled with 2 points, I missed the Habs-B's game which netted another two points. It is great to see Backes and Moore get goals - both have been working hard all year with little to show on the scoresheet. Rask has been outstanding since his couple of day sabbatical to "make things right" at home and Halak has to been solid in almost every game he has started.

The B's go to Toronto for a Monday night game. D-man Brandon Carlo might be back, but, especially in Toronto, I feel that any point is a good point, so I take what I can get........ ;)

Really looking forward to Monday's game...Hopefully the B's can keep up with the Leafs after 2 great wins.

From the 'nobody cares' dept...

Coyotes and Blackhawks swap a trio of under-performing former first-round picks. Yotes send Strome and Perlini for Schmaltz. Straight swap, no salary eaten. Don't know much about Schmaltz but Perlini was a decent player and had that potential to create something on every shift. Strome was always in a chronic slump. Hopefully Schmaltz brings something to the inept Coyotes 'O'.

Hextall gets the axe. Coach not far behind I imagine.
Hey, if Mario Lemieux can come out of retirement and contribute, perhaps that's the Flyers plan with Hextall. Even with him retired since '99, I'm sure he'd still be better than some of the revolving door of backstops they've used over the past decade.

If the new GM is hired from within, Hakstol will likely stay. But IMO that's part of the reason for the Flyers mediocrity...too many hires/promotions from within the organization. It was that way in Toronto for years, then they finally brought outside people in, and look at them today. Not that I actually want the Flyers to succeed, mind you. :D

Great game. Pulling the goalie that early against the Leafs...ehhh...I would have rather seen it go down to the wire 5 on 5. Looking forward to seeing these 2 play when they have everybody back.
Yeah, that should be great hockey! My worry is it will be in a seven game series...don't think that will end well...
