NHL Season 2018-19

B's-Leafs was exciting, B's were pretty good, Leafs were a little better.

With American Thanksgiving in the rear window, it looks like the B's will be one of those teams trying to get one of the wildcard slots. However if they get healthy by then, they will be the team none of the top seeds want to play.

We are also watching young players develop in real time in the NHL. Maybe one or two will stick with the big club and another one or two will turn into attractive trade options.

No! Say it ain't so! We can't have a member of the Pens Ring of Honor working for the cross-state enemy! LOL

You know, I never noticed this until I said the names out loud this morning...Hakstol and Hextall sound remarkably alike...maybe the personnel department fired the wrong guy? ;)

As far as GMs go, call up Paul Holmgren and remind him Garth Snow is available. Mike Milbury, too. Maybe he can pry Chiarelli out of Edmonton, or Bergevin from the Habs. :D

Well, Mark Hunter is available, and would make an excellent NHL GM. He left when passed over for the Leaf GM job, and I believe is now back in Junior Hockey with London Knights.

Milbury is tough to watch, but every so often he says something cool.
The NHL Network has a few analysts I really like. Kevin Weekes is my favorite. I can watch NHL Tonight for hours if Kevin is on.
I also like Mike Rupp, but that may be bias from my fond memories of him in a Pens uniform.
I always thought Georges Laraque would make a good TV guy.

Best line from Mike Rupp came during his Penguins days. On that HBO program 24/7 working up toward the Winter Classic showdown with the Caps, (if I remember correctly) he compared his toddler's tricycle to the 'thing Mike Green has'. Next scene shows Caps D-man Green riding to practice on his Vespa scooter, looking not at all like a tough pro hockey player. Got a laugh out of that one.

Completely agree about Weekes...solid, knowledgeable, and doesn't sugarcoat things as much as most do. Still wish he'd be a little more critical when the situation calls for it. Ken Daneyko is a competent fill-in, but Bill Lindsay is unwatchable. Takes a pause...every three or four words...hesitates some more...I want to slap the TV when he's on.

Milbury...Blah. it's obvious he dislikes Crosby and the Pens. He rarely commends the team or individuals when they do well, and it's always begrudgingly when he does manage to (mildly) praise Sid or Geno, like he's forced to say it. After Pittsburgh won the Cup in '16 and '17, as Liam & Keith were making astute post-series observations about the champs, he stood there with a sour look on his face.

Impressive performance from the Pens tonight after the Jets kept putting them in a one goal hole.
Better defense, depth scoring, and some determination added up to two points. Well done!
Next stop, tomorrow in Denver.
The highlight of the night for me came with 1:32 left in the third after an icing. As the refs were assembling everyone for the puck drop, over the arena speakers blared the opening riff of Heavy Metal from Sammy Hagar's Standing Hampton album. One of my favorite songs and albums ever.

A lot of people think they DID fire the wrong guy. Speculation is that Holmgren wanted Hextall to fire Hakstol. Hextall allegedly refused, so Holmgren axed Hextall.

But after tonight's debacle against Ottawa, I figure Hakstol isn't far behind Hextall on his way out the door. Flyers played a good game for over 2 1/2 periods. Had a 3-1 lead fairly late in the 3rd period. Sens scored 3 goals in less than 6 minutes (or maybe right around 6 minutes - not positive) to win the game without the Flyers getting so much as a point. The Flyers managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again...

Yep, that was a good, well-played game. And as you alluded to, it was nice to see scoring from the third and fourth-liners for a change. Not nearly as physical a game that I expected from Winnipeg. I've noticed that with the Jets...they play physical when winning but seem to back off when trailing. Just an observation.

Good night for both of my teams...Pitt and AZ...both get come-from-behind 4-3 wins on the road.

Just noticed this morning that BUFFALO, yes, BUFFALO is atop the league with 36 points. Raise your hand if you saw that coming.

Toronto got some guy named Matthews on the roster now. He looks OK.
If you want to see an NHL player care less on a play, check out Crosby on the third Av's goal. What he did, well didn't do, was actually a few seconds before the goal, so maybe it won't show up on highlight reels.
Well then, with two goals in 40 seconds, I take it back.
Edit #2, with the natural hat trick, Crosby shut my mouth.

Yeah, the hat trick to tie the game was awesome, but unfortunately at the end of the night, despite scoring three goals, Sid was still a -1. :(

I didn't see the play you mentioned, but I did see him sprawled on his stomach playing defense for the Avs first goal. You don't see that from a center very often. :thumbsup:
