Wasn't Cherry, it was the Leafs owner Harold Ballard. And he was talking (correctly) about Hammarstrom. Salming was as tough a defenseman as there was, just look into some of the wars the Leafs had with the Flyers in the 70s. He was not known as a fighter, but he backed down from no one, not Schulz, not Kelly, and gave at least as good as he got.

I'm sure you're right but I could have sworn it was Cherry. And yes, I always thought Salming was a stud but didn't think he played physical his first couple of seasons over here. (It has been 40 years so I'll attribute both my mistakes to old age!) Thanks for the corrections!

Aside from Hornqvist, you won't find a harder working player on that Pens roster. Ok, the numbers weren't there so far, but it had nothing to do with lack of effort. Maybe Sullivan and his constant fiddling.

Looks like Sid will be out a game or more. An undisclosed upper body injury (not a concussion) will keep him out the Lightning game and possibly further. That's OK though, since we acquired Tanner Pearson to pick up the scoring slack with Sid out. (TP has one assist in 17 games...he's overdue to have a multi-point game. )

Peeking at the league stats, who'd have ever thunk that Max Domi would have more points (22) than Crosby (19), Malkin (21), or Kessel (19)? At ANY point of the season, let alone over a month in? I guess the change of scenery was what he needed.

We were psyched with Max's selection here when he was drafted. He certainly has tons more skill than his father, although he's a capable fighter, dropping Ryan Kesler with one punch. (You Tube that one for fun). Easy player to root for, especially with his diminutive stature, but plays with the heart of a giant. Too bad his attitude soured on being here in the desert, but good luck to him in Mtl.

Part of what I love about the game is that one night your team is scoring goals from every spot on the ice. Then the next night they can't buy a goal and can't even find their butts with both hands and a roadmap. Frustrating but entertaining. And goalies who look like a sieve one night and a brick wall the next. I've loved the game since I first started watching it about 1963( NBC-I think-used to carry one game a week on Saturday)which is pretty good for a native Miamian.

No Leafs last night, so watched Habs - Canucks...quite a good game, fast, both goalies played real well. Flipped over to the Ottawa game a few times, but that really wasn't a very good game. Senaturds played well though.

The B's are having an interesting western road trip. Blowout loss (6-3) to Colorado. Great response in the next game where they stole a point in an 1-0 OT loss against Dallas with Rask after coming back from a personal leave of absence playing brilliantly, then last night a 2-1 regular time win over Phoenix with Halak strong in net and goals from 2nd year forward Jake DeBrusk and the first career goal for rookie Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson. Exciting ending as Phoenix had 1:30 of 6 on 4 after pulling their goalie after a B's penalty - I didn't know I could hold my breath for 1:30!

The B's, like many teams these days, are pretty banged up. Last night they played without Bergeron, Chara, Carlo, McEvoy, and Kevan Millar. That is 4 D-men, including our top pair, and the top line center. Fortunately, as the Who sang, the kids are alright. The team may get Millar back went they go to Detroit on Wednesday. If they can continue to scratch out a point a game until these guys get back in the lineup, I will be happy.

Boston is playing very well with loads of guys out. While I am very much impressed with Leafs speed and play without Matthews and Nylander, jury is still out on how they will do in a 7 game series against a big heavy team like Boston or Washington. Has not worked out so well last 2 years, and they responded this year by getting smaller and less heavy. And a bigger stronger team tends to wear down their opposition in a seven game series...

Things aint good, but I did appreciate the Pens not giving up and fighting to the end. Sid being out sure doesnt help.

Tough times continue for the Pens. I know Ottawa has been playing over their heads so far this season but they're still the Sens.

Murray could use a stint down in Wilkes-Barre to get his game back. DeSmith isn't the savior but he is the better goaltender right now.

Yes, the Pens didn't give up and had a lot of fight in them after falling behind 5-1, but they've got to figure out how to finish. Too many chances, too little results. It was mildly refreshing seeing someone score other than the big 3 or 4.
