Friggin Pens. Lose after nearly doubling up the Caps on shots?
I breezed by a headline in my Google feed today asking if the rest of the NHL has caught up to the Pens. The answer is yep.

Its a good thing I keep my hair short cos Id be tearing it out right now.

I felt the same way for most of the game. The Guins seemed to be in the right place with their sticks on the ice all night. They were able to pick off soooo many passes.

Saw an article that Rutherford promises some changes if the Pens keep losing. What's he gonna do? Add another winger who can't score? Right now change should start at the GM's office. I'd keep Sullivan, but take a good look at Recchi and Gonchar.

GM JR is spot on in the article when he mentions inconsistent goaltending, and that too many players sit back and rely on 87, 71, & 81 to do all the scoring. But a few call-ups of third and fourth line players isn't going to make any difference at this point.

On the plus side, that was a great effort against Washington, and they played well and deserved to win. Holtby was a brick wall...something the Pens seem to see a lot lately.

I think that was the story for much of the Caps season last year. They would get out shot a lot but still win the game. I think there's a stat about shot efficiency or something like that

Both Florida teams and the one from Vegas win tonight. Interesting times for the NHL.

Flyers go up 2-0 early in the back end of their home-and-home against the Coyotes. Arizona scores the next 4 goals to go up 4-2. Flyers pull Pickard, although it wasn't really his fault.

Flyers crawl back into it and tie it up with just over 2 minutes left in regulation. Then Gostisbehere slaps home the winner in O/T off a nice feed from Voracek. They needed that win in their first home game after a (successful) long road trip in which they picked up 7 out of 8 possible points. They've played better on the road than at home this season; so it was a relief for them to pick up a home victory. But nevertheless, it looks like another mediocre season for them all-in-all.

Props to the Caps for donating their share of the 50/50 Raffle to the victims & families of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. Classy move.

Even bigger props to the Caps fan who won the raffle...he also is donating his winnings to the victims/families.
For the team, $19K is a drop in the bucket, but for an individual, that's a lot of cash to pass up for most of us.

Yeah, not a bad effort, still got outshot though. Nice to see some secondary scoring for a change. Maybe these 4 weeks wont be so bad...too bad we don't get the Penguins again soon....

Ouch! It's weird how one team will 'own' another for awhile. This is as bad as I've seen the Pens look in a l-o-o-o-n-g time.

The Kelowna Rockets are in town, who were originally the Tacoma Rockets that played just a few miles down the road from here back in the day.

Very cool. We live about a 10 minute drive from The 'Shwa, Generals games are a great cheap experience. Real nice rink, and surprisingly good hockey.

Okay, watching Leafs and Bruins, and even before the game starts, I can see what the biggest improvement is in Boson...that guy is SO much better than Rene Rancourt….well done Bruins!

Wings somehow are pulling out wins. It isn’t sustainable if you look at the stats, but it has been fun to watch. Sorry I haven’t posted more, but I have been dealing with some really rough stuff offline for a couple of months now.

If anyone here is in to fantasy hockey, check out Dom Lucszyzyn’s stuff on the Athletic. Lots of great hockey coverage there in general.

Every season I find a team or two that I enjoy watching and following, in addition to my teams, Pittsburgh and Arizona. Over the past few years, Florida, Colorado, and and Winnipeg have become a couple of those teams on my radar.

But this year I'm drawn to the friggin' Ottawa Senators. Picked by everybody to stink it up this year, but evidently nobody told those guys. They are winning more games than they should, with hard work and perseverance. Kind of fun rooting for a team that's the underdog nearly every night!

For me, it's been Calgary on and off.
Then Las Vegas for reasons that are well documented here.
