NHL Season 2018-19

Every season I find a team or two that I enjoy watching and following, in addition to my teams, Pittsburgh and Arizona. Over the past few years, Florida, Colorado, and and Winnipeg have become a couple of those teams on my radar.

But this year I'm drawn to the friggin' Ottawa Senators. Picked by everybody to stink it up this year, but evidently nobody told those guys. They are winning more games than they should, with hard work and perseverance. Kind of fun rooting for a team that's the underdog nearly every night!
Apparently the team that came from behind in Tampa missed the 'plane to Ft. Lauderdale.:wacky:

^ Well, they get Tom Wilson back right away. Some neutral arbitrator claims the NHL used 'fuzzy math' in calculating Wilson's 20-game suspension, and he reduced it to 14. Since he's already served 16 games, he gets a refund on his withheld salary for those two games. He'll be eligible to play Tuesday night in Minnesota.

Taking bets right now as to how many games he plays before he gets suspended again. He's already proven over and over that he doesn't learn from previous incidents. :rollno:

I've not completely given up on Murray (yet), but with the struggling Kings losing another goalkeeper for an extended period of time, I'm wondering if a deal could be in the works. (I think Quick's best days are behind him). Add in GM JR's quotes last week about the Pens' inconsistent goaltending along with sluggish play overall, and I'm thinking these are two teams that could be primed for a trade.

Seeing Jeff Carter in a Pens' uni would not upset me in the least. Hard to believe he's been with LA for six seasons now.

Hey @GoLeafsGo, the NHL website does a great job showing game recaps (about 2-3 minutes), and extended game recaps (usually 7-10 minutes or more). Maybe you know about it already. If not, check it out.
I watch them quite a bit so I can keep up.

Thanks Mike, go on that website (a lot!) but have never tried the game recap, will give it a go!

After starting 1-7-2, the Wings are a .500 team after drubbing the Coyotes 6-1 last night. Nice surprise, or is Blashill that bad of a coach that he is screwing up the stealth tank, lol.

Interestingly, lots of folks were upset that they traded the pick that gave the Coyotes Chycrun to dump the Datsyuk, but it gave the Wings the picks that became Cholowski and Hronek. I'm very happy with Cholowski so far, as he has been better than anyone projected (legit top pair guy imho) and Hronek I think will end up a top 4 dman himself. Congrats to Chycrun on his extension though.

Yeah, that drubbing of the Yotes was surprising. Arizona has had a nice thing going over the past couple of weeks, beating some better teams. Last night's 6-1 whitewash by the Wings was unexpected, but Kuemper's form has fallen off a bit now that he's the go-to guy with Raanta hurt.

I was glad to see some offense from the Wings. I have to laugh, Arby's had the free curly fries for a Wings hat trick promo for years. After about 3 years with only one hat trick, a couple weeks ago they changed to to 3 Wings goals (total not a hat trick) and they have hot that every game since.

Beat me to it. Further up this page (#405) I mentioned the Kings and Pens could be working on a deal but didn't expect such a minor transaction. :vomit:
In post #383 I said JR will get another winger that couldn't score. I hate it when I'm right. LOL

How does he earn a 3-yr extension?!?

I've always liked watching Hagelin skate in open ice. But he is perhaps the most timid NHL player ever. Would never throw a bodycheck or even run a pick...no physical contact ever. Remember Don Cherry back in the 70s saying the Swedes on the Leafs (Salming/Hammarstrom) could go into the corner with eggs in their pockets and never break one? Hagelin has kept that heritage going today. Here's hoping Pearson can at least play physical when needed.

Wasn't Cherry, it was the Leafs owner Harold Ballard. And he was talking (correctly) about Hammarstrom. Salming was as tough a defenseman as there was, just look into some of the wars the Leafs had with the Flyers in the 70s. He was not known as a fighter, but he backed down from no one, not Schulz, not Kelly, and gave at least as good as he got.

I would think being only 1 seaon removed from back to back cup wins had a lot to do with it.

Hags was fast and good on the pk, they'll miss that, but he didnt score (and he'll be a UFA after this season too). Hopefully Pearson will step it up.

Hörnqvist is a Swede and he is certainly no shrinking violet.
