NHL Season 2018-19

Well that was an entertaining Caps/Rangers game. If you like offense it was awesome. Not so much if you like defense. All in all with the two new additions of Hagelin and Jensen I think the Caps are better today than they were last week.

I'd noticed Derick Brassard not being in the Panther's lineup much since coming over from Pittsburgh. Sent to Colorado this morning. Gotta suck for a guy of his caliber. Certainly has the tools to be a #2 center but for whatever reason hasn't been able to match his success with the Rangers. Two decent seasons in Ottawa, but the wheels fell off once he left there. Three trades in 366 days.

Blue Jackets add another depth player in Adam McQuaid. Methinks Columbus is betting on a deep run this year with the big additions they've made, and only giving up picks and prospects. No regular players being dealt away...so far. Will they gamble on Panarin and keep him for this playoff run and potentially get nothing if he walks? Or will they move him to get some sort of return?

Not a peep from Rutherford. I guess he figured his big trade deadline 'move' was getting Schultz back from IR.
Edit...nevermind. One slipped in just now. Pens picked up a 6'4" defensemen. Rutherford really confuses me at time.
Simmonds is heading south to Nashville. That ought to be by way of a suspension first though.

Gudbranson is a physical prescence out there, kind of like what we'd hoped Oleksiak had been. He just doesn't get into every game...often a healthy scratch.

I don't think that hit was worthy of a suspension. It's a shame that Dumouilin got hurt, but that looked like a clean hit to me. No charging. No elbowing. Wasn't in the back. Initial hit was shoulder-to-shoulder. Plus, Dumoulin was leaning down.

Yeah, at first glance it wasn't that bad...but in slow-mo you could see he really launched himself upward and his feet left the ice in order to get his shoulder high enough to make contact with Dumoulin's head.

Here's the video...look at the 0:19 mark...tell me again where the inital contact was shoulder to shoulder?

In years past, Orpik and Cooke have been suspended for less.

Come on man. Shoulder to the head. Not cool.

Well, we disagree. Unfortunate outcome, but not a dirty play. Here's an explanation from one of the Pittsburgh stations. Invalid Link Removed

Just checked the standings, Penguins are STILL on the outside looking in....

That's where they will be when the playoffs start.
They had a nice run as the new year started, but that wasn't reality.
Rutherford blew his wad making deadline deals for guys who won't even be on the roster once everyone is healthy. Those aren't the kind of moves you make when you're about to make a run for the Cup.
Murray isn't the goalie of the future for this team, he never was. The defense knows it too, so they can't play the way they'd like to when you can't trust your goalie.
Then you have the Jack Johnson deal. Rutherford sunk the Pens when he made that deal, I think deep down he knows it too.
Sullivan is stuck playing players Rutherford wants one day, doesn't want the next, then trades for that same type of player again later (see the Gudbranson deal, and how he had that guy already in Reaves but decided for some stupid reason to get rid of him only to acquire a guy like that again a year later).
