NHL Season 2018-19

I'm taking whoever wins the west. So far in the post season each team that's swept has lost the next round.

Overwhelmingly true. And believe me, there was PLENTY of radio commentary here in Boston during the Carolina series about it. But nobody seriously suggests the Bs should have tanked it just to go with the stats.

It can't be helped, now. The bottom line, to me, is just like it was when the Bs won in 2011: if the goalie shows up and holds it together, they're really tough to beat no matter who the opponent. If not, their talent level and grit could still pull them through.

I don't understand what took SJ so long to shut down Karlsson. The guy is really trying and just doesn't have it right now. The Bruins sweep means no time off for him either. I think if the Sharks somehow pull it out they are going to get crushed by Boston, but I really think STL has a good chance to get their first cup. They are playing solid, balanced hockey in all phases of the game. Plus they are clearly winning the beard war.

I too am rooting for the West rep in the Final. As stated before, I've never been a fan of the Sharks (or Thornton) but could see myself begrudgingly pulling for them over the B's.

Or this possibility, it could be like 1919 Final...cancelled due to influenza outbreak. This year there it could be that measles outbreak we're hearing about in the news. ;)

Those outbreaks have been kinda spotty.:smug:

Longtime diehard hockey fan who has only missed one Cup-raising since 1975. (That was the Kings' second Cup a few years ago (2014)...had a prior commitment and missed the clinching game. Saw the replay later that night but not live.)

The reason I mention that is because this Final just doesn't generate all that much interest for me. Not a B's fan at all, and the Blues are just 'meh'. I'm sure I'll still be tuning in to much of the series but it won't be with the same enthusiasm that I normally would have. Maybe I'll be wrong and this might turn out to be the most exciting Final ever, but I ain't holding my breath.

A Blues Cup would make for a good Hollywood story...from last place in January to hoisting the trophy in June.
A Bruins Cup would...hmm... well, at least it 's not the Caps repeating. ;)

I'm not a fan of either team, but I'll watch as many games as I can when not rehearsing or gigging. This is it 'til October. Go(team that begins with "B")!

I hear you. I actually only watched about 30 seconds last night (it may have had to do with the fact that my oculus quest arrived) but even rooting against the sharks wasn't enough to get me to tune in.

It just seems like the first and second rounds were mostly pretty good and very entertaining with plenty to get excited about and that really dropped off for me, especially once the canes went down. I know I'll watch the finals, but I won't be eagerly anticipating it. Hopefully there are some good games and surprises and it's more than just an excuse for me to sit around and drink some beers.

the current playoff format has made these last couple of rounds far less interesting. Having so many of the top teams eliminated has changed the way the playoffs work, so I am not surprised that folks have become less interested.
That said, I am hoping for a St Louis victory. My thinking is that if they can win the cup, it can't be that long before the Leafs next victory.
They share a common length of time between and or for their first cup.
Boston fans are spoiled! LOL
