NHL Season 2018-19

The NHL is in danger of losing casual fans with that kind of delay. I wonder who had the idea to sit on the start of the SCF that long.
A whole lot can happen in six days to distract people to other forms of entertainment.

Sheesh, I just noticed the Final doesn't start until Monday...six days after the Blues finished off the Sharks, and 11 days rest for Boston after sweeping the Canes. I was expecting the series to start tonight(Friday) or Saturday.

No hockey, no Premier League soccer, baseball is too early in the season to get into, and I don't give a rat's behind about basketball. For me, it's definitely a very dry sports drought.

It is good that the Blues will have a chance to get rusty, not just the B's. The B's are intentionally getting their players on a regular season schedule with scrimmages starting at 7 PM.

Z played in the scrimmage last night (before a nearly sold out TD Garden!), so he appears good to go.

The B's were 39 years when they won in 2010-11. So I kinda feel for them even though I wasn't a hardcore hockey fan for most of those years. In general, I like rooting for the team that hasn't won in a while, but not when playing a Boston team. I could be wrong, but I think that there might be an "Anybody but Boston" feeling outside of New England regarding any sports championship - maybe just a slight, barely detectable, undercurrent.

I had to look back in Hockey-Reference to check the number of years for the Bruins and was kind of surprised to see that the Big Bad Bruins of the 1970's only won 2 Cups (it appears that Montreal was pretty good back then). I was a kid at the time, but it felt like more. That said, the impact of Bobby Orr and the rest of that team was that dozens of hockey rinks were built by the Commonwealth (God save it!) and you started to see more Massachusetts-born players in the NHL. The B's have 2 still playing in the playoffs - Grzelcyk born in Charlestown and Coyle from Weymouth. And a third, Wagner, who is injured, from Walpole.

Being something of a hardcore hockey nut, I've had the opportunity to see some of the Massachusetts hockey players who turned pro - back when they were in high school or college. Distinctly remember seeing Kreider and Cory Schneider when they were young, before local high-brow prep schools picked them up. This is a great area for college hockey, too. You can see a lot of stars in the making playing in Hockey East. It's pretty cool seeing the progression.
