That Krug hit capped off an amazing sequence. Perron yanking Krug's helmet off his noggin, Krug seeing red and streaking down the ice to hit Perron... Perron goes off on a change, so Krug finds the puck and goes after the guy who's got it: Thomas.

As for the "Anybody but Boston" feeling, you are correct.The B's were 39 years when they won in 2010-11. So I kinda feel for them even though I wasn't a hardcore hockey fan for most of those years. In general, I like rooting for the team that hasn't won in a while, but not when playing a Boston team. I could be wrong, but I think that there might be an "Anybody but Boston" feeling outside of New England regarding any sports championship - maybe just a slight, barely detectable, undercurrent.
I had to look back in Hockey-Reference to check the number of years for the Bruins and was kind of surprised to see that the Big Bad Bruins of the 1970's only won 2 Cups (it appears that Montreal was pretty good back then). I was a kid at the time, but it felt like more. That said, the impact of Bobby Orr and the rest of that team was that dozens of hockey rinks were built by the Commonwealth (God save it!) and you started to see more Massachusetts-born players in the NHL. The B's have 2 still playing in the playoffs - Grzelcyk born in Charlestown and Coyle from Weymouth. And a third, Wagner, who is injured, from Walpole.
Especially in certain (cough cough) parts of the country.
I have the same feeling, but didn't want to be the first to say it. The Blues can get back into it, but I think they knew that the first game was their best chance to catch a rusty Bruins team and that is exactly what happened in the first 21 minutes. But then the B's continued to play hard and eventually pulled away. In other words, it has to be demoralizing when you go up by 2 goals in a game where you have a tangible advantage and then lose. The Blues will also need to be more disciplined, not only too many penalties, but too many of the unnecessary variety. I read too many quotes from the Blues players with criticism of how the game was called - that is not a good sign for Blues fans. The refs missed the Chara slash, but they also missed the Perron de-helmeting of Krug and the penalties that were called on the Blues were good calls - Edmundson in particular looked pretty foolish with the extra jab on Backes after the crosscheck to the mouth (glad to see him in the crease for Kuraly's go-ahead goal - karma for the win!) The Blues are a team that can play an effective heavy game, but last night there was too much dirty and cheap and not enough clean and heavy from the Blues.
The first 5 minutes of the next game are going to be lit.
It was great coaching. The idea was to put the players back on the game schedule - meals, naps, start time, people in the stands which upped the intensity - the B's were still a bit rusty at the start of Game 1 but found their legs in the 2nd.
The scrimmage raised a ton of money (tix were $20 and they got 17,000+ fans) for the B's charity, so a classic win-win.
To the complaint about the officials, I took an unofficial tally: they didn't call a lot on either team.

I wouldn't have gone the 10 on Edmundson as the second crosscheck wasn't that hard. It was a punk move, but the refs figured that extra jab would be taken care of on the ice.

MUCH better game for the Blues tonight. This is some pretty good hockey. I still think the Bruins will take the series, but as a hockey fan it's important to me that the action is worthy of the Stanley Cup.
