OK, what then? You want us all to sit in this thread and speculate about what might happen if it does?
If the NHL decided to cancel the rest of the season and playoffs, then I'd be up for discussing the impact to us as fans and those who live in NHL cities.
Until then, I don't see the point in speculating.

Well, given that this is a discussion board, I thought we could discuss it. You don't have to join in if you feel differently.
One sport down as of this morning, how long before the others join in.... or am I "speculating again? Is that so wrong?
I'm actually some what surprised that the NHL hasn't joined the NBA in shutting down for an undetermined period of time. I feel that they are being irresponsible.

Wow...this whole thing is becoming surreal. Woke up and saw the NBA announcement, and thought I was in a bad movie.

IF the NHL follows suit, perhaps it'll give players time to heal any nagging injuries. And when they do resume play, the playoffs might be better for the layoff, having players fresher. Just trying to find something positive in all this.

Was hearing from the TV pundits that should they shut down for a month, the play-offs would end at the end of July, under the current play-off structure. Speculation is that they be forced to reduce the number of teams that make the play-off from 16 to 8, but they are speculating... and we are simply discussing it.

That's interesting about changing the playoff format.
Instead of reducing the teams from 16 to 8, I would prefer making the first two series into a best-of-five instead of best-of-seven. That would shave off at least a week.

Back in the 70s, the first round was only a best-of-three, followed by a best-of-five, then only the semifinals and finals were best-of-seven. Nobody complained back then about the shorter series. (Personally, I always thought four best-of-sevens is too much. Just my two cents.)

When they picked up Tavares, I acted like it was no big deal, but inside I felt like they were going to be the team to beat in the east.
But hey, Matthews is still a treat to watch. I'm a big fan of Kasperi Kapanen, so was really disappointed when the Pens made him part of the Kessel deal.
I still keep an eye on Kapanen.
