NHL Season 2021-22

The Pirates are my favorite NL team so I feel your pain. Didn't the league have to step in at some point because the Bucks weren't spending enough or something? Back to hockey: Yeah, we don't talk about 1975 too much except for fog and dead bats.I do like the Preds. But yes, I'm originally from PA and a long-time Flyers fan.
I actually grew up in Johnstown (Western PA about 65 miles from Pittsburgh). Lifelong Pirates and Steelers fan. Went into the military in 1968. My parents moved from Johnstown to Harrisburg while I was in Vietnam.
I used to go to the Johnstown Jets hockey games as a teen (East Coast Hockey League). That's who the Charlestown Chiefs (in "Slap Shot") were modeled after, and the "Chiefs" played in the same arena (War Memorial Arena) that I used to go to. What they lacked in skill, they made up for in toughness.
But I didn't get into NHL hockey until around 1973. The cable TV company in Harrisburg carried all the Flyers away games, so that's how I got into the Flyers. So I've been a suffering Flyers fan since after they won their 2nd Stanley Cup in 1975. I've stuck with them through thick and thin (kinda' like my poor old Pirates). I've been loyal throughout, but this has been the worst season in the nearly 50 years I've been watching them. All I can do is hope they turn it all around. I'd love to see them get another Cup while I'm still alive...
Funny story: Don't quote me on the exact details, but Bernie Parent was at some function and a woman, after admiring his championship ring, praised him for acknowledging his mom and dad.

Despite being an avowed Flyer-hater, I read Parent's book when it came out in the late 70s. (Heck, I also read books by Esposito, Park, Orr, Schultz, or any other one I could get my hands on.) The one thing I remember most from that book (Bernie!) was the fact that he decided to get circumsized as an adult. Ye-Ouch just thinking about it.
I knew one guy where I used to work that had that done as an adult. He didn't go into details, but it was some kind of medical necessity. He was not happy about it.
Got home in time to see the last 5 minutes + the OT. They have the nickname "The Cardiac Cats". They earn it.
That's twice in less than a week coming back from 4 goals! And I still want to see them meet up in a series...it would be special. Oh well, 3 out of 4 points in Fla is not too bad.
Wrong time of the year to all of a sudden not being able to win a game. Pens cough up yet another 'L' to another playoff team, losing both back-to-back games against Colorado, after dropping two to the Rangers. (I'll ignore that 11-2 thumping of Detroit, as that proved to be nothing to get excited about after all.) Jarry is playing okay, not all on him, but sometimes your goalie needs to step up and steal a game.
Meanwhile, the Panthers continue to play great in the second half of games, after conceding big leads. Jersey was one thing, but pulling off that feat against the Leafs is extra impressive.

Oh, not when they're playing the Penguins. Three wins against them in the past two weeks, and only one of those games could be considered 'close'.I look at the standings and see the Rangers sitting there in 2nd in utter amazement. It sure feels like they lose alot more. I guess barely winning is still winning. I'll take it.
Unless something crazy happens, the Rangers and Pens will almost certainly face each other in the first round. All indicators tell me I'm gonna have to latch onto another team after a quick four-and-out bounce for my guys.
Congrats to Sid getting point #1400 in his 1100th game. Very close contest with Nashville, and it took OT to decide it. You just knew 87 was somehow going to get that milestone point, as he was in the zone for much of the game, doing his best to lead the Pens out of their current funk. Prior to yesterday, they'd lost four in a row and something like 7 of 9. Not exactly the way to finish the season and gear up for the playoffs.
Pat Foley announced his last Chicago Blackhawks game last night and has now retired.

Bittersweet. I'm happy and sad at the same time. I was 13 years old when Pat Foley started announcing. My respect and admiration for Foly is more than mere nostalgia, he was amazingly talented at what he did. I truly believe he was the best announcer in the entire NHL.

Looks like a playoff preview tonight with the Leafs and the Bolts...still not clear if Matthews is going to play tonight. Hey @GonePlaid, game doesn't start until 8, so even if you have a gig you might be able to catch the end.
Wait a minute - I thought it was in the NHL Charter that the Leafs play the Bruins in the first round.
Seriously, the standings are pretty tight but as Coach Cassidy said in the Globe today - "I don't think you can cherry-pick your opponent int he East. I think you're getting a beast no matter who you get and I think Florida Carolina and the Rangers are thinking the same thing."
For sure. The Caps, Rangers, and Panthers have all been red hot lately, and Carolina, even though they've cooled off a bit still have all the parts in place to turn it on again. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, are limping into the playoffs. Starting goalie has a broken foot, and our backup would be in the AHL if we had been able to pick up ANYBODY with a set of pads at the trade deadline. Couple that with a month-long slump and I would guess everybody wants to feast on Penguins in the first round.
