NHL Season 2021

I’d be tentative on Hextall too; if I were a Pens fan.

I will say that he has made more picks that panned out than were busts and landing the undrafted Phil Myers makes him appear as a genius. I think the Sam Morin pick is probably the biggest black mark pick on his resume.

There was a process and the Flyers are seeing the benefits of that process, but only after Hexy was let go. There was far too much wheel spinning on prospect development and giving these guys a chance with the big club. Flyers fandom isn’t exactly a patient bunch.

It took punting Hexy (and Hakstol) to finally get Hart on the big club’s roster.

He’s not a “bad” GM per se; just a little conservative and safe, which was actually a welcome thing after the vortex that was Paul Holmgren.

Just wondering where some of our old friends from previous NHL threads are hiding...

Jump in here any time, guys...

Hey guys, been too busy/distracted to keep up with tb as much as I used too I guess.

For now, I'm pleasantly surprised at the Panthers. They usually fall so far behind at the beginning of the season that they never catch up. I guess "Q" is just what they needed.

I hear Horny has been looking pretty good down there too. Im sure he is being a real PITA in front of the net like he has always been. Of course the Pens could really use exactly that type of player now too. Ironic, huh?

Pens name Ron Hextall their new GM.

Hopefully Pens Nation is patient. He’ll get your prospect pool filled back up.

Mike Rupp was on the radio saying it will be good for the Pens to get some fresh eyes on their problems. Hopefully he is right.

Also, never forget...

Pretty much. If you're looking for Horny and he's not on the bench, he's in front of the goalie. He got a goal last night on a shot by Ekblad that ricocheted offa his chest as he blocked Greise's view.

Had to laugh when in the last minute of the Bruins-Rangers game, Rask heads toward the bench for the extra attacker. Problem was, it a 2-2 tie at that point. The players on the bench were waving their sticks to 'get back there' and he finally realized it when he got within a few feet of the bench. Rask seemed to laugh about it too during the break between regulation and overtime.

Not a Bruins fan but that sure was a sweet play Bergeron made to put the puck right on Marchand's tape in the opening seconds of the OT, and Marchand made a helluva move around Georgiev, only to have the Ranger defenseman save the day. A few seconds later Marchand made no mistake, as he put home the game-winner.

Patrice Bergeron becomes next captain of the Boston Bruins (Is anyone that surprised?)

B's fan back for the season. Given how the Sox and Pats seasons went - thank God for hockey.

Bergy was expected although they pranked him by announcing to the team that Marchand would wear the C.

Marshy did get the A. What does everyone think about that? I'm fine with it, he works hard and has been pretty well behaved lately.

He's always had the skills to be an outstanding player and leader, and now he's got the experience (NHL and intermational) to be able to relate to players from many backgrounds and pass on some of what he knows. He's worn the A in a few games over the past couple of years.

I'm curious about how the officials see him, though, given that Cs and As are the ones who confer with the refs. You've got to figure nobody knows the rules quite the way Marchand does, and I'd imagine his past bad sportsmanship might rub a few of them the wrong way.

Here's the thing, though. He's been much cleaner for a couple seasons now, letting his excellence tell the story. My guess is that as long as he keeps his massive nose clean, he'll earn respect from veterans, coaches, and officials because he'll show he's matured and risen above his past.

Initial Bruins thoughts:
Defense is better that I thought - Miller doesn't look like he had missed more than a year and the kids are solid. Gamble by front office is paying off (so far).

Brainfart excepted, Rask has looked good and Halak is better with the smaller workload.

Pasta and Bergy are healthier and skating much better.

He's said he wants to clean up his act and be remembered for being an excellent hockey player, not some jerk who plays dirty. That being said, few games after he said that, he started with his antics again but I think it's died down ever since. Bergeron having the C hopefully kills whatever temptation is left in Marchand. IDK the locker room obviously but if there's one other player in Boston that Marchand may respect/fear/admire more than Zdeno Chara, it's likely Bergeron.

If someone like Bergy tells you to cut it out and stop the antics, you'll more than likely stop.
