I am very impressed with Hellebuyck...have not seen too much of him in the past, but it is now clear to me why he won the Vezina. That is a good team with a great goalie, they will go as far as he can take them.

NHL Season 2021

Sheesh, I managed to make it to the high 'A'/low 'AA' level in my late teens, and even I can't believe what some of these guys can do out there. So dang slick and quick!Since I can't even stand on skates, the fact these guys can do what they do never ceases to astound me.
Of course, that was back in the days of heavy wooden sticks, and skates weren't near as lightweight either. Yeah, that's my excuse.
(Not that better equipment would have mattered in my case...I still couldn't do flashy things like that.
)

I'm with you and GonePlaid. My ice skating skills were very basic. I remember how cool I thought I was when I was able to skate backwards! But watching these pros (especially in person) just makes me shake my head in awe. Bolts and Cats fighting it out for first in the Central. Interesting season. Might be going to Amalie Arena 3/18. Kinda depends on what's available and how many $$$.
Had a free week of Center Ice (which I had cancelled for this season) so it was nice to kick back and watch multiple games all weekend. Kind of miss that but it meant that I didn't get much else done these past two days.

Hoping not to jinx anything, but Pittsburgh has quietly put together a six-game winning streak while the formerly invisible Evgeni Malkin has built an eight-game scoring streak. Even the goaltending has been timely and consistent, too. If they're going to make any noise in the playoffs, they need more of that kind of production.
I have a bit of an issue qualifying those as "highlights".....
Well, they do highlight the defensive and goaltending challenges currently being faced by the team!

From now on I'll only mention losing streaks with the hope the jinx works against those, too.
Buffalo pulls the plug on HC Ralph Krueger.
Can't pin all the blame on him though when four of their top players have combined for only NINE goals. (Staal - 3, Hall/Eichel/Skinner - 2 each). Good luck to the next guy they hire.

Hope nobody here bet on the Flyers to beat the Rangers tonight.
New York leading Philly 6 - 0 , less than half way through 2nd period. That's with only 14 total shots on goal.
To add insult to injury, the Rangers entire coaching staff is out per COVID-19 protocol. The head coach from their minor league farm team is behind the bench.

Wow. That performance by the Flyers in the 2nd period was the most pathetic 20 minutes of NHL hockey that I have ever seen. Ever.
Seven goals scored on 14 shots. Two of the Flyers defensemen had a -6 plus/minus rating for the night.

I've been watching the Flyers since the '70s. I think I agree with you. I was trying to remember a worse performance than their 2nd period tonight. I honestly can't remember one.
I've suffered through many horrible games over those 40 - 50 years. But I can't think of even ONE Flyer who stood out as playing a good game tonight. And yes, they were especially atrocious in that 2nd period. Can't think of one positive thing to say about them tonight. The defensemen were atrocious. The forwards were pathetic. The goalies were not good, but in fairness, had zero help from their teammates.
Kudos to the Rangers. They were on fire and could do no wrong. They looked like world-beaters tonight.
Could the end be coming soon for Vigneault and his staff?
Mike Zibanejad scored 3 goals and had 3 assists for the Rangers in the 2nd period tonight. That ties (with Bryan Trottier) an all time NHL record for most points in a single period, and also ties (with Gil Perreault) an all time NHL record for most goals in a single period.
