NHL Season 2021

:smug: First time I saw those green St Pats unis I thought the Flames were playing the Stars in their retro jersey. Then remembered the Canadian teams are all together and that couldn't be possible. Took a few seconds to realize what I was seeing. Not exactly easy on the eyes, that bright green.

Wow, can't believe this went down like this. I always thought highly of Tim Peel as a referee, but after this hot mike moment, the league really had no choice but to say adios.

NHL ref Peel banned for hot-mic call on Preds

Not defending this at all, but the truth is, the refs and linesmen are human, and they have to have some leanings no matter how professional they try to be. They don't appreciate being abused verbally by certain coaches/players and after a while, that's gotta have some sort of effect on their decisions somehow, however small that might be. You just wonder what gets said between themselves post-game in the officials' dressing room.

Lotta ppl have gotten their @$$ in a sling for talking near a hot mic: Reporters, politicians, average Joes. Oh, well. He was gonna retire anyway. Now he gets an early start.

I'm with you @dwm74 and @Jason Hollar on the Peel deal.
It's not unbelievable other refs have done the same thing, not out of spite, just out of the reasons you both reference.
It's a tough spot for the NHL to be in. They can't let it slide. Maybe because he was close to retiring, they decided to make an example out of him.

I have no idea what their contract is like. Wonder if he keeps retirement bennies.

With single game betting coming to the NHL in the very near future, the NHL is being careful. Ref's manage the game, always have and always will. Unfortunately for Peel, that never before heard comment has put the NHL in a difficult position as they try to emulate a clean game to the gambling community. As always, a simple follow the money trail will lead to this decision.

Too bad the Pens can't play Buffalo every day. They'd really rack up the points and get that top seed locked up for the postseason.

I do feel bad for the Sabres...they're really not as bad as their current 0-14-2 streak would indicate. If only a former league MVP would play like he's capable of playing. Hall looks like he's just going through the motions at times out there...reminds me of Malkin. And like Malkin, when he's on fire, he can carry a team. Wondering if he's already shut the door on this season and thinking about his next contract and team.
