NHL Season 2021

Here's something you don't see very often...the words "Brandon Tanev" and "game-winning goal" in the same sentence. But last night it actually occurred!

His signing was another one of former GM Rutherford's head-scratchers. We were afraid that contract (5yr/$17.5M) would become another albatross like the Jack Johnson fiasco. But Tanev has been a contributor to this team's success. No, he's not lighting the lamp often but the energy he brings to each and every shift is worth the price of admission. Never takes a shift off...100% effort all the time. That 4th line Tanev/Blueger/Aston-Reese are doing a lot of good things right now.

The cross check by Weber on Hyman after the whistle is something that the league should look at.
As far as the J.T. incident is concerned, I didn't think it was intentional in any way. Now, I am far from a Perry fan, but I will give him credit for taking the fight with Foligno and not throwing a punch. It had to happen or the game would have turned in a all out brawl. The "code" was met.

Bruins are playing their best game yet against the Caps. Really solid, fluid play, and Washington has been back on their heels from the jump. Other than a penalty disparity, despite a couple of borderline dirty Caps plays, which the Bs are taking in stride tonight.

Only thing the Bruins can't seem to do? Find the back of the net, other than one PP goal so far. But it's bound to happen sooner or later; they're being very quick and creative with their zone entries.

ETA: It's happening. Sooner or later. 3-0, and Wilson is reverting to his old feral ways...

Yeah, the playoffs bring the dirty out of otherwise skilled players. Marchand has been regressing lately, too.

I've counted at least 4 times during these playoffs when Marchand has taken the opportunity of a big scrum after the whistle to high stick others players in the head and face while the refs' are distracted.

What a ****.

Absolutely. Marchand needs to rein it in... again. He's starting to get those reputation calls again; last night he got tagged for Interference (I think) on a very, very weak call, especially considering what the refs were letting go.

He gets like this. HoF talent, but every few years (usually in the playoffs) another team gets under his skin and he turns into a six-year-old. It'll clear up. I think part of the problem is the scheduling this year: these players have seen each other SO often, that they're raring to go already.

When he's on, though, and scoring... Wilson's not even in the same league. Both have downside, but Marchy has far more upside.

The backdoor sweep for the Bruins over Ovi & the Caps. Kind of enjoyed watching Laviolette's boys get shown the door rather early.

Heck of a game in Nashville yesterday, going into the 2nd OT before the Preds sent their fans home happy. I still think Carolina is the stronger team, but it's a best-of-three series now.

As is the Pens/Islanders series. Saturday's performance has me worried for my Pens...they looked flat during the few minutes I was able to tune in.

And Colorado outscored the Blues 20-7 in their four-game sweep. Made it look easy.

Forget Varlamov...Sorokin has been lights out in shutting the door against the Penguins. He was the difference in last night's game, which the Isles took in OT. Jarry wasn't bad, just not quite as sharp as his opponent. :banghead:

Surprisingly the Jets swept the Oilers. Although I expected the Jets to win the series I also expected the Oilers would make a long series out of it. They didn't.

Florida lives to fight another day. Helluva effort last night while facing elimination against the defending Champs. Coach Q has these guys believing in themselves.

Tampa was sandbagging it so they could win at Amalie Arena. I also have a NY area bridge for sale.

The score last night belied how close the Islanders/Bruins game was. Good, hard-hitting game.

Barry Trotz said it was even until early in the 3rd. The game turned on the B's kill of the too many men on the ice penalty which was immediately followed by McAvoy's goal. I agree with him, B's really started to fire on all cylinders after that.

Smith can't play tonight. DeBrusk will take his place on the 2nd line, Kuhlman takes DeBrusk's spot on the 3rd line.
