I watched it on NHL Center Ice (DirecTV) so I could hear the Flyers broadcast team. Koneckny also had an assist tonight.

This was a strange game. Couturier went out for good after only one shift. Took a hit into the boards. Didn't look like much, to be honest; but he was motioning to one of his shoulders on the bench before heading for the locker room. I sure hope it's nothing serious.

Pittsburgh outshot and outhit the Flyers, but the Flyers were up 3-0. Pens scored two, and I was getting a little nervous at 3-2. But then the Flyers scored their 4th for some breathing room. Pens pulled DeSmith (who had replaced Jarry after the Flyers 3rd goal), but Lindblom scored an empty netter to finish it off.

Pens looked like the quicker team tonight, but Carter Hart was the unsung hero in my opinion. He throttled what I thought was a good effort by the Pens.

This division realignment for some teams looks real funky. No more beast out of the east (Bruins) for my Bolts but we do have the Stars and Jackets to deal with. Everybody in their new division play only each-other 12-15 times this season? And 16 teams will make the playoffs? I may have misunderstood what I thought I heard...Although I understand the NHL trying to get as many teams in the PO's to try to 'at least' help compensate some loss revenues from lack of attendance (T.V. revenues not enough) and minimize travel for Covid. I can only imagine what the books look like for teams that had good attendances and sold out every game (Lightning) and employment ramifications to lower arena staffers and I don't even want to think about the teams with sub-par numbers. It's not a good time to be a franchise owner and hope those guys have some sort of profit reserves. If the NHL doesn't open the gates due to C-19 protocols sometime this season we may see player contracts take a serious nose dive and the player union negotiations are not that far off. It wouldn't surprise me when that time comes the owners cry like a baby, players don't want a reduction or be pro-rated (again). We may see a impasse. I hope not but in this world these days it's always something wrong with something.

I wish I could muster any sort of sympathy for the billionaires and conglomerates that own these teams. The same owners that tried to screw the players out of the terms that both parties agreed to with regards to salary deferment and escrow. The same owners that then back pedaled when they realized how tone deaf it appeared.

Comcast Sportsnet an Eugene Melnyk will be just fine.

I don't have sympathy for rich owners nor am I jealous but you better believe they'll cut their losses every which way they can and it's call doing business. It's a investment they put their money in to make money and they will pull back only so low before loosing their shirts as any businessman/owner will do. But rich owners also makes rich players too.

Oh... I almost forgot these games will be back-to-back(skip a day) so the losing team will be able to make adjustments accordingly while still fresh in their minds.

Oh I am with you on businessman tactics but for them to claim financial hardship is laughable. I’m not saying they won’t loose money this short season; I’m saying that they’ll be fine and I’m not gonna act like I owe them anything. I buy the jerseys, pay the subscription and their attitude is that we should consider ourselves lucky they gave us a truncated season.

The reality is that long term; losing a season is more detrimental to the owners than losing money on a short season during a pandemic. Hockey is a niche sport and casual fans will lose interest and move on and TV contracts will dry up if the NHL looses visibility. Remember what happened after the 04-05 lockout? The league came back televised on the Outdoor Life Network and didn’t start to regain momentum until after OLN became VS, which was then bought by NBC.

I’m thankful to get to watch some meaningful hockey games, but who’s doing the work here?

I can’t begrudge the players their salaries at all. We’re talking Canadian farm boys (broad generalization) turned millionaires vs billionaire businessman that few people can related too. It’s an expensive sport for kids to grow up playing. I’d say the players and their families are making the riskier investment here.

The players are the ones putting their bodies on the line, battling through injuries, concussions and have short windows in their lives to make that money. Price of admission to be sure but my sympathies are aligned with the players.

I wished somebody would pay me millions for having fun and doing something I'd probably do for free. I also agree the players should get what they can get because athletes do have a short window to do so. I just don't want our sports to be ruin because the owners claim they can't keep the lights on and the players say the baby needs milk.

The devilest of the devils is Jeremy Jacobs, owner of the Bruins, who has a LOT of leverage and influence over the ENTIRE NHL. It's scary to think exactly how much influence he has. Guy refused to pay the staff that got laid off during the early stages of the pandemic but he's arguably the richest owner in the NHL...what a prick.

I'm on the side of the players too but then again, it's millionaires vs billionaires while we normal people who barely make the league minimum in 5-10 years are the real sufferers. God I'd LOVE to be paid, what, 700k a year, to play hockey. That'd be great.

The Avalanche put on a frigging clinic against the Blues. 8-0...woof. St. Louis had no answer all game, their PK failed them, their PP failed them, everyone failed each other.

I still think Tampa is the Cup favorite again. Colorado's issue is injury problems and they struggled a lot last season when players were injured constantly. I'm sure they have good depth, but that injury bug is going to hurt them if/when it happens again.

I also may need something stronger than red wine if the Canucks lose to Markstrom and the Flames tomorrow night. Recommendations are welcome.

Although the Bolts won their first two games against Chicago 5/1-5/2, the Hawks may not be a playoff team this season. Steven Stamkos looks great scoring in each game while top scorer Nikita Kucherov recoups from possible season ending injuries in the off season although it's possible he might be playoff ready assuming...3rd and 4th line looks good and could be many teams 1st or 2nd lineup and they will be greatly needed. Still coming up short on face-offs. PK's are good and PP is so-so. But it's only two games. And this years question 'again' remains about the Lightning is..How physical are we? Dallas and Columbus should be a good test. Lots of teams get more tuff and scrappy with the champs as should be expected. Columbus is next and has a reputation for playing physical with glass smashing authority. This will be the ideal game to mix and match for the best pounding and defense line. Lastly- goalie Vasilevskiy played IMO too-many minutes/games last season so his load management should be better. Hopefully.

Yeah Hart stole that game with offensive support from TK. Flyers are finding their transition game and burying their chances.

Lots of defensive lapses though; which I’ll start to have concerns about if this lingers on after a few more games. Not having Selke winning (finally) Coots was noticeable on the defensive side of things.

The Pens are indeed fast this year. That speed was giving the Flyers fits.

I wish the Flyers had a little more snarl to answer back when other teams ramp up the physical play. NAK and Bodybag Hagg will wind up the leading hitters on the Flyers. Good for NAK but Hagg makes questionable choices when to hit and often times doesn’t even separate the player from the puck, or it will dribble to the opposing team.

Myers. Love you dude but we gotta start getting those point and blue line shots through traffic.

Yeah, I Googled it after seeing your post and watched several videos of and about that incident. Looks like the one you mentioned (about Jake and JVR reportedly laughing while A.V. was calling out his vets was the primary cause of the resentment. But Sielski also made a comment (Tweet?) that even a Voracek trade for Kate Smith would be a good one. So I can see why he's a bit peeved...

The hosts of the BSH podcasts (BSH Radio and Flyperble) I listen to constantly give Jake stick for blocking critics on Twitter. He has a reputation for not putting up with garbage from the media. Puts into mind Mike Richards battles with Philly’s beat writers. They were questioning their partying and Richards position was like yeah, we went 10-0, you might have a story if we are partying with an 0-10 record.

I think there was an incident in which Nolan Patrick was defensive with beat writers grilling him on his migraine disorder after a practice. That could also be contributing to Jake’s animosity.

My favorite Flyers writer is Charlie O’Conner who writes for The Athletic and is the calming presence and voice of reason on BSH Radio. His insights on the Flyers and hockey in general is always on point, reasonable, fair and balanced. Detailed and out of the box. His articles alone are worth a subscription to The Athletic.
