NHL Season 2021

Fantastic 3rd and 2/3 on the PP!

4 goals by Joel Farabee. I really hope the Young Beezer nickname goes away soon.

That Hart gaf was a doozy.
Four POINTS by Farabee, not four goals. One goal and three assists. Good game for him though. I was also glad to see Koneckny get a goal. Didn't want his playoffs no-show to start festering in his "regular season brain". :D

Carter Hart didn't do himself any favors with that giveaway to Crosby resulting in a goal. But kudos to Crosby for being able to tap it in one-handed. I think Hart got stronger after that embarrassment.

Both teams had a lot of jump in their step, so to speak. I was really impressed with the Pens Jankowski. He really looked good. Looks like that was a good signing by the Pens.

Hawks lost 5-1 to Stanley Cup champs the Bolts.

Subban made 3 incredible saves. He also let in 3 goals that should have been routine stops.

Hawks were unable to get any offense going at all. Their lone goal was a fluke that was really a pass from behind the net that bounced off a defender's stick then dribbled in behing the goalie's skates.

Pretty ugly, and I afraid this is going to be standard play for Chicago this year.

Canucks pull off a W against McDavid and the Oilers. What a fantastic first game for rookie Nils Hoglander, scoring his first NHL goal. Promising young kid who surprised everyone out of training camp.

Back at it tomorrow. McDavid left pointless is not a good thing for the Canucks; he's going to come back stronger and angrier and I'm not sure if we can hold back his willpower.

I’m not sure why I said goals. I had it input right and then retyped it; wrong. Brain fart.

They gave the TK goal to Lindblom. I didn’t check out any replays so I’m not sure what the goal judges are seeing that I’m not. No matter who officially scored I’m glad to see Konecny going to the dirty areas. And hey, Lindblom getting a goal? I’m cool with this.

I agree on Hart. One thing that has impressed me with him is his ability to bounce back from bad goals and get his head back into the game. He’s one of the most mentally tough goalies I have seen on this team since Bryz (sarcasm, why you heff to be mad?).

Also glad to see the ever streaky JVR get a goal on opening night.

The forward depth of this team is solid. When your worst forward is a guy named Raffl playing on the 4th line; that’s a deep team.

Funny that we have a $15 million third line.

I think the Flyers are still undefeated when Hayes scores.

Gustafsson I was initially tentative on the signing. Definitely not a Niskanen replacement but his contributions on the PP are promising. Did we get another Kimmo Timonen?

Jankowski was definitely noticeable and I’ll give props to Crosby on his hand/eye coordination. 44 goals against the Flyers in his career.

Rutherford signing Ceci has been mocked a lot. I’m not sure why; I thought he looked fine last night

Well that turned out to be quite exciting. First period was a hot sloppy mess, but guess that was expected. But got quite a bit better after that, fewer sloppy moments. Watched a bit of the Oilers/Canucks...*** is up with the Edmonton uni? Looked like (ugly) practice jerseys.

Time to break out the Grail for the season. I have owned this for 51 years.

Ha Leafs can only win by cheating and paying off the refs. One of the worst ever officiated games ever. Broken stick on cross check? Oooooo no penalty for mathews, the little turd.
Helloo rule book? Busted stick =penalty
Blatant high stick?? No penalty.
Suzuki puts his hand on a guy??
2 minutes!!
That was disgusting.
On the positive side, Montreal has 4 excellent lines and once they start to click a bit are going to be a tough team to play against.

This is gonna be the norm of the Canadian division sadly. Every team except Toronto will hate Toronto

Ceci and Matheson were both garbage. Ceci did play a bit better but both were hot garbage. What a terrible signing.

Did you want some cheese with that?

Lol at complainting about the officiating. As a Flyers fan I used to do that. Nobody likes the refs.

I didn’t see the game in question so I can’t comment on specifics but every team has to deal with questionable officiating.

First Flyers/Pens game; I noticed the refs blow calls on a couple Penguin holds but then they missed a too many men that should have gone against the Flyers. So it sorta evened out. Although the coach Sullivan was not thrilled on the blown 2MM since the Pens got called for the same a few minutes prior.

Again I don’t know the poor officiating in question and it could be a blatant bias; which I won’t deny is a thing (players and teams carry reputations; some players receive more leniency than others) but it’s wishful thinking to expect officiating to improve. This is a fast game with lots happening on the ice at all times.

I’d hate to be a Zebra in the NHL.

I haven’t seen enough of either to really have a bead. I know the consensus is that Ceci is considered actively bad; the signing was bad and is a big reason why the Pens are expect to regress this season. He’s certainly not a goal scoring defenseman. His career CF% both regular season and in the playoffs is horrendous (like 43%).

Although he was at 70% on Wednesday; which might explain why he passed my one game eye test.

Matheson is only slightly better in career advanced metrics but still pretty bad.

I have a personal hatred of Matheson; he was the guy who bodyslammed Elias Pettersson during his rookie season and sidelined him for like 5-10 games. Despite that, Pettersson STILL racked up points and won the Calder in 2019 but that was a GUTLESS move by Matheson. He is widely hated by Canucks nation and by me.

Objectively, he sucks. He's really bad. He's a bit better than Ceci but that's like saying a rotten apple tastes better than a rotten orange.
